Arkadi Monastery - Crete Island, Greece

Arkadi Monastery is located near the village Amnatos, 23 kilometers southeast of Rethymno. It is located at an altitude of more than 500 meters on the northwestern slope of Mountain Ida. This is one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries in Crete island. In this monastery, people desperately fought to the death against the superior forces of the Turks. Around the monastery there are several picturesque chapels and from there starts the beautiful Arkadi gorge.
