Good location near the airport by local bus within 5 min. View of the mountain is very nice. The staffs are helpful. The room is clean and everything is good except there is no amenities, besides body wash, shampoo and conditioner which is pretty enough.
The Vander in Tromsø is a ”digital hotel.” There's no reception and no human contact person. That's not a bad thing. But you have to be aware of the situation. Check-in is either via mobile phone or the CI machine; you can also issue multiple plastic cards. This is definitely recommended. The risk is very low, but if your battery runs out, your phone breaks, etc., it's always better to have a backup. The room was relatively clean, and the furnishings were well-maintained. The Euro-Spar supermarket downstairs offers good shopping, and the Narstrada shopping center is just a few minutes away. Prices are OK by Norwegian standards. The city center can be reached in 5-10 minutes. We visited all the attractions on foot. The bus from the airport cost about €5, while Bolt was €20. Therefore, Bolt is worth considering for groups of three or more (or if your flight is very early/late). I can recommend Skaret by Vander if you're not afraid of online systems.
Check-in staff is friendly, the process is quick. Upon request, they unlock the upper deck bunk bed as my kid prefer upper one as his personal bed. The view is nice from the room window, can see the Tromso beach. The night also having a good weather and we able to see northern light just at outside of the hotel.
The facade definitely stands out and the place was cosy. However, the photos were not representative of the actual place not exactly in a good way. We stayed in the designer cabin (which costs more) but were surprised by how small it was. I would not recommend paying more for the cabin during summer as there is not much to see and less convenient considering we needed to walk a distance to access the amenities including the toilets and kitchen which we did not know when we booked.
Perfect stay if you’re looking for a more local authentic stay. We had a cozy wooden cabin with 2 bedrooms and kitchen, which was perfect for our group of 4. We cooked meals there and could hang out together in the living and dining room, all of the above wouldn’t have been possible in a traditional hotel. The location is more secluded, not convenient if you don’t have a rental car.
Great hotel for our short stay. Room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was very good, with lots of options. Bacon, egg (fried, scrambled or boiled) beans, toast and brown sauce was my choice. But there was a good choice of pastries and breads, yogurts and cream cheeses, meats etc etc.
The location was ideal on the main street, a short walk from the bus station where lots of the tours depart from.
Love the smart hotel, easy check in. Perfect location with bus, ferry terminal, groceries, shopping mall all within 5 minute walk. The room is also spacious. Definitely value for money. I will recommend all to stay when you are in Harstad.

Very Good
GGuest UserI stayed in this hotel for 6 nights and would recommend this hotel because of
-its location. While the bus is kr26 offpeak and 48 at peak) being able to walk to most places is important to me.
-its cleaniness. (Slightly dated in some part of room, but no stains on bed linen, no moulded bathroom)
-helpful staff including checkin, conference, and housekeeping
-good view (may depend on the room type and floor)
-wonderful breakfast
-good temperature control (18-20 degree Cel) in the room
- wooden floor in room (cleaner than carpet)
-no bad smell at all even in bathroom
- tea and coffee are always available in the lobby. Though self service, still feel warm and welcoming from the freezing outside.
- a little desk for working / writing plus a coffee table for other stuff. Two chairs are also included in this compact room which all come in handy.
- wifi is available for free
- a restaurant is available for dinner if you get hungry anytime after 4pm. I often feel rejected when I didnt make a booking in this town for dinner. So this hotel restaurant can be your safety net.
Tips from my point of view:
-Room is quite small even i booked a double room. Looks like a compact room to me. But i accepted since I travel solo and was happy about the view. If you care about the space, do go for the bigger rooms.
-those hooks in the bathroom can rarely hold the towels without falling on the floor. You will need to think of ways to deal with this.
- there are no tooth brush and tooth paste for free. Bring your own, or buy them here.
-you may notice that things in this town is quite expensive. No exception for this hotel. This is the most expensive hotel room that I have ever paid for in my life. This money is more than normal 5 stars hotels but please manage your expectation... It's all relative. Since this was the best fit for me among all the hotels here, i still chose this.
-there is a lugguage room open access to other customers too. So be prepared to hand carry anything valuable rather than leaving in the luggage room if you are careful.
- the weather here in winter may not be very welcoming for someone from the warmer part of the world. So having a good hotel and room is one of the main reasons that I can feel safe and warm here in Tromso.

MMARY ANN MARGARETTECheap price place to stay. They have shared facilities - 2 showers, 2 toilets and a common kitchen upstairs, 1 washer/dryer downstairs.
Going there better be ready if you take bus 24 (shortest way) as you need to go up the slope it’s kinda challenging if you have luggages but if you take bus 20 a bit longer walking as you need to walk back but the good news is we spotted aurora borealis on our way back and going to the house is downslope so it’s easier to go down than up lol. The person in charge is friendly. The room is spacious with 3 beds and a table with nice window overlooking outside. We were assigned with room at the ground floor so it’s easier to push our luggage and no need to go up the staircase. Improvement, hoping that the air-conditioned heater knob really works? Coz it’s kind of cold in the middle of the night. Overall, we did like our stay, it’s not far from the center and we like the quietness of the neighbourhood plus all white snow covering the whole place.
GGuest UserAn unpretentious but comfortable hotel in an unbeatable location in central Tromso (the third photo is the view from the hotel window). Highlights include the friendly staff (a shout out here to the ever helpful Petter), tasty and healthy breakfast, and comfortable sitting areas that mean you don't have to hang out in your room.
Given the quality of the hotel it is surprising - and highly annoying - that they don't provide kettles in the room (I even offered to pay a deposit), the more frustrating because some photos on the site show coffee machines: so some rooms do have these facilities. The selection of toiletries is also surprisingly meagre - no shower gel for example, which seems unnecessarily cheapskate. My other gripe is that they need more individual tables in the breakfast room: finding a space at a long table feels reminiscent of youth hostelling...
With these shortcomings noted, the hotel can be recommended and is good value for Tromso.

GGuest UserIt was my 3rd time in this hotel. A room with a view of the water is always crucial. Because the view is simply unbeatably beautiful.
This was the first time we have stayed for a whole week. Unfortunately, there were some things that were not so ideal. The included food is generally a great thing. Eating out is expensive, especially in Scandinavia, so it is nice that it is included in the price. However, we noticed that the food on offer was quite repetitive. And the hot dishes in the evening were only very lukewarm. What was really not so great is that you have to actively request the cleaning service yourself. We did that, but the room was not cleaned (especially the bathroom), only the towels were changed and the soap dispensers refilled. And when you are there for a week, you notice that there is only a small corner to hang things up, which is very little. So we had both armchairs full, which was sometimes really chaotic and you had to keep tidying up.
The staff are very nice and friendly, though. And the location of the hotel is also pretty unbeatable. Everything is close by. Since we had a whole day of rain/snow and didn't leave the hotel at all, we realized that the option of going to a warm sauna or swimming pool, or booking a massage or cosmetic treatment at the hotel would have been nice. But I would still come back again and again just for the view ;-)
GGuest UserWe arrived in the evening, reception was not open but instructions to where our room and key are were sent in advance. Due to the weather (arrived during heavy snow) we struggled a bit to find our room, which was unpleasant, but once we found it our stay was very nice. The room had everything we needed, bathroom simple and clean, kitchen organized and simple with a stove, dishwasher, fridge and everything, and a very nice shared area. The location is very close to Finnsnes, but buses don't run very often, and not in the evening; so plan in advance if you count on using public transportation. On the up side, when the bus does run, there is a stop right outside.
All in all, great value for money. Thank you for a very pleasant stay!
SSheereenA hotel that is located conveniently to many pick up points for tours. Grocery stores, 7-11 and restaurants are also located nearby. Simple amenities such as shampoo/body soap, towels, hairdryer are available. Love it that there is breakfast and dinner that comes together with your stay. Nothing too fancy but good enough to fill your bellies considering the restaurants are quite pricey. You will need to get hot water on your own at the dispenser as there are no kettle in the room. Reception was always friendly in answering any questions, and even helped with my cab booking to the airport. Worth it for the price, would stay here again.
