Very friendly and welcoming, accommodating staff who are helpful with requests and a fab location right in the centre. Nice breakfasts. Rooms are exceptional value, albeit some areas / parts of the rooms are a little rough around the edges. Would definitely visit again. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The Staff at the hotel was very friendly & helpful all the way through our stay, the food was great, and not expensive at all. The hotel room was cozy and very clean-as well as the rest of the hotel. We visited the caves and we was given % off our tickets.

We booked here for a 2-night day whilst visiting a friend near-by. We had a garden facing room with a lovely view and enjoyed watching the rabbits running in the meadow next door. Our room was comfortable and the bed was very good with both of us getting a good night’s sleep. Our host Sarah was lovely and very welcoming. Breakfast was excellent - both cooked as well as cereals, juices, yogurts etc. Service was very good and we appreciated the fact that we didn’t have to wait a long time for our food. Booked into the Ancient Gatehouse in Sept 2023 for one night. Communication before arriving was very good. The hotel itself if very old and a most beautiful building. I have seen some reviews commenting about the smell and the stairs etc, which is rather ridiculous. The building is about 500 years old! This only adds to the charm. Views from the back of the hotel are stunning as it looks directly towards Wells cathedral. I forget her name, but the manageress was most helpful and very friendly. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed when we stayed so we are looking forward to eating there when we return in a few months time. If you don't like old buildings and creaky stairs then stay in a Premier Inn. We loved it, hence our return for 2 nights soon which we are very much looking forward to in a bigger room.
