The board and owners need a meeting and a good look at themselves and go through the list The staff are stressed and overwhelmed! Service had to go in 6 times and queue Paid £50 quid a head for mediocre food Collect our warm white wine as no ice and no corkscrew On the 6th visit to the bar was told to move and queue at the other side Courtyard dirty and cluttered with glasses and having no creative recruitment strategies is not an excuse for not enough staff
Response from Property: Hayleycs3978zj, thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback about your experience with us. I are sorry to have fallen short of our usual high standard on your visit and normally we receive nothing but praise for our friendly, warm and welcoming team. I shall certainly pass on your comments to the team so improvements can be made.

Stayed in suite that may have been the old stables, I think. Somewhat separate to the main body of the hotel. Hotel and room were lovely. Cannot complain about anything. Breakfast was also great. Although we had a suite, I think they should charge more, to be honest. I have paid a lot more for a lot less. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely location in heart of Wells
Response from Property: L226jwpaulb, we're so glad that we were able to go above and beyond your expectations! Thank you, and have a fantastic day!

Visited for a two night stay in February on the Dine and Unwind package. This includes two nights B&B and a three course dinner on the first night. The checking in experience was really easy and the staff were super helpful with local knowledge and dining reservations etc. We had a four poster room in the old part of the hotel which was spacious and clean but could do with some tlc. The included dinner was lovely with free choice of the whole menu. Breakfast was a full hot and cold buffet with optional freshly cooked hot choice from the menu. The staff cannot be commended highly enough. All super friendly, helpful and happy to chat. Quick shout out to Cathu, Cory, Kyle, Jelena and Leeroy. Would highly recommend this hotel for location, staff and food! I’d definitely return. Loved Wells.
Response from Property: Hello Wazza1445, we appreciate you taking the time to leave us this feedback. I'm delighted that you found not only our hotel delightful but also the team whom I've passed on your comments too. I hope to welcome you again back to the Swan Hotel in the Near future - Gordon Harby General Manager

The worst hotel room we have ever stayed in and for a price of £190. Firstly the staff were all very nice, but.... We arrived at around 3.30pm on a Saturday for one night. We were told on arrival that we could only have breakfast at 7 to 7.30 Sunday morning or after 10am because the big group had fully booked all other times. Brcause we said we couldn't do those times the duty manager did offer us a saussge or bacon sandwich delivered to our room, which we had. Our room was room 8. Room 8 was up two flights of stairs, it was like a crows nest with windows on three walls, there was a queen bed, in front of the bed was a lovely bath tub, which looked great but was totally inpractical as there was no other shower, just ensuite toilet and wash basin. There was a very narrow bench seat running under the main window, no other seating, not one chair or desk. When night fell the room was cold with so many windows. The bed was far too firm and I woke with a terrible back the next morning, my wife a day after now having back pains. On checking out at 9am the big group were boarding their coach and the breakfast restaurant had two tables in use the rest was empty. I think the charge over twenty quid for breakfast, I hope somebody had a good fill on ours! We were visiting my mother who lives in a retirement home nearby, our daughter and her partner stayed down the road for half the price and had an excellent room plus a nice breakfast. We will never stay there again, awful place!
Response from Property: Dear Phil_and_Diane Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us here at The Swan Hotel. I'm sorry that certain aspects fell short of our normal high standard. All our rooms are slightly different in layout and presentation and had we known that a shower cubicle was of importance to you we would have certainly offered a room move had you let us know. We do occasionally have larger groups stay with us to take advantage of our wonderful location and always try and accommodate everyone by being upfront and advising of the best times to dine to facilitate a relaxed experience and I apologise that the times weren't suitable for you on this occasion but pleased our Duty Manager was able to offer an alternative. Please contact myself direct at the hotel if you ever wish to rebook and I will certainly enhance your next stay with us. Thank you once again for your time in providing your feedback.

I'm unsure how this hotel has managed to get to a 4 star rating. I don't know how to describe my experience at the swan as it was a mixture of very good yet very bad! The good.. the breakfast and bar service was great. There is a gorgeous outside area opposite the front where you can sit and take in the view of the breathtaking cathedral. The average... the fixtures, fittings and fabrics of this hotel are gorgeous... but so poorly maintained. Attention to detail on cleanliness is missing. Dust accumulated in places that they can't be bothered to clean. Our room quite frankly was appalling. I appreciate it's an older style building, the wonky floors, rattly windows and ill fitting doors you can't do much about, but the standard the room is maintained you can. (See images) With the restaurant slap bang to the reception, unfortunately the first smell you get as you enter the hotel is whatever people are eating at that time of day, not a lovely aromatic perfume! Mixed feelings about the swan, it could be SO much better.

Started off great on the first visit, but all we wanted was beer and wine. Second visit 2 hours later, we ventured into cocktail land, big mistake!! Nothing like they looked on the advertised photograph, one not even the one we asked for, cubed ice instead of shaved, not in the crystal glass shown, and the topping of squashies not even there. Manager came to ask what was wrong, then came up with poor excuses, “we run out of squashies because the staff keep eating them, can’t stop them”, “servers were new and we all start somewhere don’t we?”. Plus adjacent tables were never cleared from an afternoon tea, for around 2 hours. We have been to many Coaching Inn properties, come on Swan and get your act together. But I won’t be back
Response from Property: Dear Cliff_taylor2 Thank you for your review of your recent visit to our Bar. Clearly there were issues and I can only apologise that you encountered them. I will speak to the team and the Duty Manager personally regarding your comments and ensure that lesson are learnt. Once again thank you for your feedback.

This is a review for the restaurant only as we didn’t stay in the hotel. We had a fantastic experience at The Swan Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed dining in their restaurant. Staff were super attentive, regularly coming over to check that our food was ok and that we had enough drinks etc. The food we had was delicious too! We can’t wait to go back again!
Response from Property: Dear 952hannaw Thank you for your review after your dining experience with us here at the Swan Hotel. I have passed along your kind comments to the team. I hope you choose us again int he near future, why not try our fantastic offer and dine for free on your birthday.

We chose The Swan because of the central location, its reputation and its history: we were not disappointed. In our experience, the staff were all friendly and wanting to help. Particular mention of Martin, the General Manager, who we chanced to meet in the car park when he offered to help us with our luggage. Of all the hotels we have stayed in, The Swan offered the best genuine choice of gluten-free meals in the evening. This was true for starters, mains and deserts. Breakfast was a little more problematic but at least the GF bread didn't have the dreaded "grey ring" inside the crust from lengthy storage in the freezer and after a couple of days, the chef made up some porridge. The "room" we stayed in astonished us. It consisted of an enormous bath and shower room, a separate WC, a large lounge and an exceedingly large bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe. Perhaps more than anything else, it had a full view of the west facade of the cathedral across the green. Technically, it was Room 26, but Hyacinth Bucket would have used (probably often and loudly) the correct nomenclature of the Cathedral Suite. Should you make a wise choice and stay here, please note the warning about the limited number of spaces available in the car park. Access to the parking area is tricky but perfectly doable. We stayed four nights and managed to park on site each time.
