Hotel Heraclea has all the potentials to be a great hotel and offering an memorable stay. But it was a rather disappointing stay. Management and staff should wake up an reflect on al lot of things. But it isn’t all bad. Rooms are large and kept very tidy, breakfast is more than satisfying and offering a nice mix of Italian and more Northern ingredients. Dinner is nice as well. But. Staff is friendly but lame. The bartender is not always on top of things but like the others, tries hard. This hotel is big. But I have been to hospitals with far more warmth an coziness than the entrance, hallways and rooms, which are rather cold and basic. Rooms are noisy as well. One can hear too much from the adjacent rooms, let alone the one above. Most shocking experience was the welcome drink. Sounds nice and sympathetic. But offering some tiny drops (2cm?) of Italy’s finest prosecco in an even tiny plastic cup was flat-out embarrassing. A refill was hard to get, staff ignored the guests. Management should be ashamed (foremost for the plastic cups)! This of course, is an occasion on the side, but it is quite representative for the whole stay. With summer season on its way, they really should get their act together.

Beautiful place to stay, near everything, excellent service, staff so friendly and professional, breakfast out of this world with fresh and local products!!! With No Time To Die pending an April 2020 release date those wanting to get into the action may want to check out this hotel as the perfect base - five minutes from the Tower and Duomo and the incredible motorbike stunt and ten minutes from the car chase locations and that of the square seen at the end of trailer one. Incredibly clean, comfortable with friendly staff with a great breakfast (amazing coffee!) the Albergo seems to appear from inside a church. Terrific location. Those hoping to see the Ponte Aquedotto (the bridge leapt from at the start of the cat chase) will need to travel 20mins to Gravina in Puglia, a nearby town. Don't go on Monday as most everything is closed. Costing approx 70 euro by taxi or 5 euro by bus (six buses a day and six return) the bridge can be seen in a morning so suggest basing in Matera and a 3 -4 he trip to Gravina. Overall this hotel is perfect for those wanting to see the film locations - 10/10 for cleanliness, comfort and friendliness. A score worthy of 007 himself.

We loved our stay in Matera at Thymus Residence. We had a rental car and they made a reservation at a secure garage about 15 minutes from the BnB for our two night (can't drive inside Matera-- only cars w. permits are allowed). Cost was 20 euro/day- cash payment. Free shuttle arrived right on time and was a flawless transfer. We interacted mostly with Veronica, who was a great host-- providing restaurant recommendations and calling to book us reservations for both nights. The room is wonderful! Truly a cave, but a small window in the bathroom and larger window at the front to let in light. The renovation of the room was great-- as is the character of the entire city-- wow, it was a magical couple of days-- despite the 37 degrees heat! The breakfast each morning was tasty-- with sweet and savoury options- all delicious and served on the terrace in the shade, with a perfect view of the sassi surrounds. We really enjoyed walking around exploring the city and learning about its interesting history. You will not be dissappointed!
