"Very beautiful and wild luxury hotel. It was my first time staying next to a waterfall and falling asleep to the white noise of nature! The hotel breakfast is not very varied but it is very good and delicate. Laos has been burning mountains for a long time and the natural scenery is not very good. This hotel feels a bit like a small paradise! Although it is a bit far from the city, the hotel provides free shuttle buses to the city and gives children small souvenirs. The children are very happy! Although living in the woods, I was not bitten by mosquitoes at all. On the contrary, I was bitten all over when I moved to the city. If the price could be cheaper, I would stay two more nights. More than 6,000 a night is too expensive."

"My parents liked the rural-style, yet rustic look. The swimming pool was clean and the room condition was satisfactory for the price. However, even though it was well past the check-in time, the room was not cleaned, so my parents had to wait for an hour without being able to eat, and they behaved somewhat incomprehensibly, such as asking to exchange the old dollars that someone else had paid for new bills. In the first place, they took other guests' old bills. I'm not a bank, so why are they asking me to exchange it? Other than that, everything was good."

"Our stay had a lot of high points and a lot of low points. Starting with the high points, the grounds and room were incredible. Our experience at the spa was one of the best we’ve had. The cocktails and Laos-style burger we had for lunch one day were phenomenal. The staff were charming and very accommodating. However, there were a few aspects that were far below the experience expected of a 5 star hotel. First, cocktail service around the pool was abysmal. On almost every occasion we had to go searching for a staff member to take our order, and then the cocktails more often than not took more than half an hour to arrive. This is despite the fact that we seemed to be the only people ordering F&B at that time, i.e. they were not busy at all. Second, the breakfast was a disappointment every day - we were told we could order eggs or noodles, and had to repeatedly press the staff to find out what type of eggs and noodles, and we only discovered on the last day that there was a menu with additional options. We ordered poached eggs on toast, and the eggs had not been drained of excess liquid, and the bread was entirely soaked through. An order of waffles took over an hour to come out - first it was delivered as a pancakes, and then they just forgot about it despite repeated follow ups. The “local” Laos options lacked flavor - very little of the herbs and spice that makes Laos food great. I think this and the pool service issue are primarily the result of a lack of training and instruction for staff - they were clearly doing their best, but did not know what to do. Third, the pool area needs a lot more spent on maintenance. The decking is cracking and falling apart. The mosaic tiles in the pool are falling apart, A LOT of the tiles are missing, and I got a very large laceration on my forearm from the sharp edge of a tile sticking out. If this pool were in a western jurisdiction, it would not meet health and safety standards. Fourth, the gym was not worth visiting if you want to lift weights. Possibly the worst weights offering I’ve seen for a hotel of that price and with that much space. We want to reiterate how great and enthusiastic the staff were. I think this is primarily a management oversight, training, and maintenance capex issue."

"Just before the Old Bridge, set back from the road, next to a temple, this is the kind of accommodation I couldn't wish for better. Villa Maydou is exactly my taste! The hotel's individual buildings are loosely spread across the site, some of which have been carefully restored and are listed as historical monuments. I love the teak floors in the upper rooms. The hotel lives from its historic charm, the caring staff and Laotian vibe. The open breakfast pavilion (don't touch the Fishtail Palm!) offers a great, also regional variety of options. The pool is a nice place to relax after your excursions and the cosy bar next to it invites you to forget the time with a G&T.   Guests can use free rental bikes to reach everything in the old town."

The location is 15 minutes leisurely to the night market, cafes and other civilization, quite suitable, it is nice to walk in the evening, when it is already quiet. There is a very small pool, I did not try to swim, but I saw sunbathers near it. Of the disadvantages - I lived in the basement, it is very noisy in the morning, either the guests or the staff rushing around with breakfast. Overall, the stay was comfortable."
