Amazing

After booking, I contacted the hotel to arrange the pick-up and other transportation. The hotel responded to the email promptly. The car and driver were also the hotel's own car. Because the hotel is located in the countryside and is relatively remote, I dare not Grab it myself. It turns out that the hotel's car and driver service are very satisfactory. The pick-up in Yogyakarta city is 850,000, and the delivery to Borobudur and waiting, and then the delivery to Yogyakarta hotel is 1300,000.

What a great couple of days breaking our journey from Yogyakarta to Semarang. The whole place was a calm oasis. Ideal for a bit of down time on a busy holiday. The room was spacious and well appointed and a very private outside space. The food was excellent and the service was attentive. All in all a beautiful place to spend a few quiet days.

Beautiful hotel in amazing surroundings and stunning views of volcanos from our substantial balcony. The bed was comfortable but had a wooden surround which was quite awkward when trying to get in or out., or to turn the lights on or off. The shower was good, and there was a sunken bath in the room, but in order to fill it you had to get into the bath as the tap was inaccessible otherwise. Then the water only came out as a trickle so it would have taken about an hour to fill. Unfortunately, the time we were there coincided with some sort of convention which meant that a lot of the staff were occupied with servicing this event, and they were largely absent when needed to - for example - sign off a bar bill or order food. The spa is impeccable, and a massage is recommended. The pool has a very scenic setting.

This boutique hotel offers both a tranquil and romantic feel. The colonial style, plenty of activities and beautiful location make this a wonderful place to stay. We were greeted by the manager (? Noor) who was so courteous and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Our lodge was perfect.. large rooms, sunken bath, outside terrace with outside shower/bathroom with stunning views. Beautiful infinity pool, coffee plantation tour and great food and service made this an unforgettable stay on our Indonesian trip. Highly recommend x

Beautiful luxury retreat on top of a hill in the middle of its own coffee plantation. The hotel consists of a huge parc with different historical buildings partly from the Dutch colonial area. The spa/hamman and pool area are outstanding with great service. The charlets are huge with private terrace and stunning views to the volcanos. It was a great experience and is warmly recommended!

The resort is truly one of a kind. It has beautifully maintained colonial-style buildings that allow you to step back in time while enjoying modern comforts. The surrounding plantation, along with breathtaking jungle and mountain views, creates a serene atmosphere. The large swimming pool has plenty of lounge chairs and was the perfect spot for my daily swim practice. The staff is exceptionally welcoming, highly trained, and speaks flawless English. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a complimentary welcome drink and generously upgraded to a larger suite featuring a stunning bathtub and a spacious terrace overlooking the jungle. A small but thoughtful detail that stood out was how the staff remembered my name and provided a warm, wet towel before dinner at the restaurant—a testament to their impeccable service. While I was having dinner, the staff cleaned my room for the second time that day, lit an anti-mosquito candle, closed the curtains, and left a note with a small Indonesian cake. It was a wonderfully thoughtful gesture. The complimentary afternoon tea or coffee, accompanied by a selection of snacks, was another delightful touch. Breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of dishes with no limits on selection. However, dinner at the restaurant could be improved, especially considering the very high prices. On the first night, the fried fish was overcooked with blackened spots. On the second night, both the satay and rice cakes were served cold. Since I hadn’t ordered rice cakes, I requested regular rice instead, and the staff kindly provided it. The regular rice was good. One unexpected aspect was the sound of a nearby mosque broadcasting Islamic prayers and music through loudspeakers, several times a day and at night. While I hadn’t anticipated such noise in a remote resort, this is beyond the hotel’s control.

The location is beautiful, on a working coffee plantation, surrounded by misty volcanic peaks. Heritage plantation villas are spread throughout the resort, with views of the lush tropical greenery and mountains from the private verandah. Inside, the villas have comfortable beds, a seating and dining area, separate toilet, shower and bath area, tea and coffee making facilities, a stocked minibar, and air conditioning. The Club House serves as Reception and also has various seating areas for guest use, with board games and comfy sofas. The Plantation Lounge is the hotel bar, with an extensive cocktail menu and wine list, although prices reflect the high taxes on alcohol in Indonesia. We enjoyed a different cocktail each evening before dinner. My only criticism is the thumping music played on repeat. It really doesn't fit with the ambience; soft jazz would be far better. Java Red, the hotel restaurant, serves food all day at reasonable prices. The menu features some Western dishes, but I would highly recommend trying the Javanese options, which were universally delicious. The pool is lovely, and the spa features, unusually, proper Turkish hammams in both the male and female sections. We had a traditional Turkish bath and 90-minute Javanese massage, both of which were fabulous. The prices are reasonable by international hotel standards. The staff at MesaStila are simply phenomenal! They are genuinely friendly, making you feel truly welcome, and can't do enough. Don't hesitate to stay here if you find yourself in the area.

Very Good

You really can't fault the location of MetaStila and the grounds that the property is within ... 10 out of 10 ! We did the two free tours (local village walk and coffee Plantation tour) both were excellent. We had also organised (prior to arrival) to do the waterfall hike and the Ambarawa train. Both are excellent activities and the water fall walk across Central Java farmland was just magic. The guide Anam really explained a huge amount about farming and the culture. The restaurant was on balance very good and the food was excellent, and the staff could have not been more helpful. The room (a large wooden building) was certainly authentic but just too rustic and not to our taste (other guests we talked to loved them!). On check in we had already rejected the first (upgraded) room because the shower was frankly a safety trip hazard to get in and out of over a tiled bath. The second room we were given had a more accessible shower which was a positive, but had trip hazards everywhere (e.g. bed had a 1m “surround” that you had to slide over to exit the bed and also there was a step into bathroom to negotiate at night). The room was also in need of some repair (broken electrical socket in lounge, tile floor in bathroom cracked and broken). In fact on the final night I cut my foot on the cracked bathroom floor. I stress again other guests seemed to love the rooms and experience. In reviewing I have made a real effort to be fact based. As a "total experience" the stay was positive and we are glad we visited MetaStila, plus the staff were just excellent and so friendly.

A real treat to stay here on tour of C Java. Colonial style in coffee plantation with many genuine antiques and buildings bursting with character. Individual lodges are quirky with views of the gardens. Surrounding views stunning set up by immaculate gardens. Staff all very helpful and friendly, service and food very good, afternoon tea an additional treat. An excellent choice, pleased I was able to stay here.

After staying a couple of days in Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan and Borobodur Temples we wanted a more in depth Java experience and chosing Mesastila was certainly our best bet. The property is amazing throughout, lots of character. We enjoyed their day tours and the beautiful lush area; Pasar Umun Grabag is a local market nearby not to be missed!!! Spa is a 10 out of 10!!!

This is such a special place. The grounds are incredibly beautiful, the houses are wonderful examples of Javanese colonial architecture, the food is just fantastic as are the cocktails, the people are so incredibly friendly and the surroundings are magnificent. Some past reviews have mentioned they felt the rooms are over priced. I totally disagree. Consider that you are also helping the up keep of a historically important coffee plantation and that almost every house is originally an antique Javanese house, lovingly transported to the coffee plantation by the owner to save from ruin. It is a labour of love and the entire grounds are yours to reside and explore during your time there. Other reviews also mention that some of the rooms are dark. Yes some are however, these villas are (or inspired by) traditional Javanese homes- one from the past Sultan of Solo. Keeping cool and having dark and elegant wooden interiors were and still are all important and preferred. This is a special place that is embracing and protecting a traditional and elegant Javanese aesthetic. It is unique and not like anything else. Thank you for having us.
Response from Property: Dear JoannaD1117, We're truly honored to hear that you found Mesastila to be such a special and unique place. Your appreciation for the grounds, Javanese colonial architecture, food, and friendly staff means the world to us. We're committed to preserving the rich heritage of this coffee plantation and the traditional Javanese aesthetic. Thank you for your visit, and we hope to welcome you back to our unique retreat in the future. Yours sincerely, The Management

Superb experience, in a character full resort hotel, in serene and beautiful grounds with amazing service. This sums up our amazing stay just now at MesaStila. From arrival to departure the staff makes you feel special. We stayed in Arum Villa which had all comforts and is very spacious. The beautiful antiques are well preserved. The Club house has a relaxing atmosphere and reminds of the colonial pastures. We enjoyed our complimentary afternoon teas here. The food is very good, we especially enjoyed all the Indonesian dishes. Recommend you book a spa treatment and enjoy the complimentary yoga in the morning. You can trust the resort with booking your visit to Borobudur and Prambanam temple. We look forward to come back at some point in the future!

It is such a relaxing and serene clean environment. What a warm welcome, an excellent villa upgrade. Everything has been thought of to ensure an optimal experience of our stay. We will definitely go back again. A taxi to travel further to Surakarta is perfectly arranged and a nice taxi ride with Slamet. A special tour of the coffee plantation, special snacks and delicious kopi tubroek!!! Delicious 3-course lunch. Our dinner was also delicious and this morning our Javanese breakfast. It is our travel program that we travel further today, but it is recommended to spend the night in the middle of greenery.
