Love the area and the outdoor public baths. The meals were good. My husband complained that there’s no meat but I like all the vegetarian dishes provided. Tasted very good. There’s a small fried fish and few sashimi slices. My husband rates the food to be 3/10 while I rate it 5/10 as I am amazed at how they make vegetarian dishes so well. They do not serve any fish for breakfast which is quite unlike other ryokan we had been to. They had more vegetables and an egg for breakfast. I liked it though. The ryokan had free shuttle service for pick up and drop off to coincide with the bus times, very convenient, responsible and timely.

The spa was great! However, the hotel stopped providing hot water for showers during our stay without any prior notice or notification during check-in! Instead of giving you a choice before check-in, it felt like I was being ripped off! And it is totally unacceptable in minus ten degree weather! In addition, one of the door locks of the hot spring was damaged and had not been repaired, allowing other people to enter at will! When I got the key and entered, someone was dipping! The situation was awkward, so I had no choice but to give in to them! It would be nice to have a car to Shimo-Imaichi on the way back! The car is very small and there is no space for luggage! As a well-known hot spring hotel, don’t guests need to carry luggage in such a car? Moreover, the driver did not arrange a place to put the luggage, so I had to hold the luggage tightly in the car throughout the journey, which was very embarrassing! And the driver kept talking to familiar passengers along the way! This will affect driving safety! Hope you will pay more attention!

We were absolutely thrilled with our stay at Kaniyu Onsen. The journey there was a Jochen Schweitzer experience in itself! By train from Kita Senju to Kinugawaonsen (1.5 hours), then by bus to Meotobuchi (1.5 hours) and then by Onsen Shuttle (20 minutes). Booking on site without knowing Japanese was an adventure! But everything worked out perfectly, thanks in part to the very helpful women at the tourist information office and what a beautiful landscape during the journey! When we arrived at the Onsen, English was spoken quite well and everything was explained in detail. One thing that was very important to us was that tattoos are tolerated, but you should be considerate of the other visitors. This means that you can swim when there is no one else in the pool or cover it with a towel. We didn't go into the large communal pool until very late. Before that we had only been in the small pools, where you are not seen very much. The dinner is also very unusual. As a European you have to get involved in it and for me, who doesn't eat fish, it was a bit of a challenge. But you only experience something like that once, so they do it!! We thought it was great and would come back anytime! Thank you for the great time!

The Okukinu River is really beautiful in autumn. Kaninyu is very cost-effective, with clean accommodation and two meals. There are also beautiful hiking routes around it, which are full of wild fun. In addition, its four outdoor hot springs are all sourced from the source. Japanese friends said that they are very authentic traditional hot springs, recommended.

The location is in a deep valley. You have to have the hotel car pick you up at the appointed time. The access is difficult but the rewards are good. The food is good. The milky mineral water is very good. You can come in any season. It is peaceful and you can truly relax.

The way there is really tough, but the moment you arrive and enter the hot springs, all your fatigue disappears.

I visited Okinu again after five years and stayed at the Garito Hot Spring Hotel. Take the car from Nufufubuchi Hotel up the mountain and it's a 20-minute drive on the mountain road. You can also choose not to take a car and hike up the mountain for 90 minutes to the hotel. The hotel is deep in the mountains, and the hot springs are close to the valley.

You only need to worry about whether your English level can be fully understood. They are also very welcoming to foreign tourists! If you know a little bit of Triangle Cat's Japanese, you can communicate here without any barriers~ When you check in, you can reserve a private bath time, confirm the dinner time, etc. at the front desk (50 minutes, special soup package) 🍱 It is highly recommended to choose the price package that includes dinner. The dinner variety is very rich, including sashimi, beef, boiled food, pickled food, as well as desserts and a small glass of wine. After soaking in the hot springs, go to enjoy dinner. In addition to the indoor hot springs separated for men and women, there are also 3 large open-air hot springs. One of them is for women only, so you don’t have to worry about the embarrassment of mixed bathing; everything is full of sulfur smell and the soup is very turbid. , it’s the turbidity of minerals! In the deep mountains and old forests, soaking in such a pleasant hot spring and closing your eyes can completely forget your worries. Occasionally, you can hear one or two birds chirping, which really makes you recite a poem. 🎑 I’m very lucky that my guest room is located by the valley. When I open the window, I can hear the white noise of the stream. There are tea and sweet biscuits in the room. I sit by the window and make two cups of tea. I can completely relax myself and listen to the stream. one day! 🗺️ If you are a traveler from Tokyo and have enough time, I suggest you plan a two-day itinerary here: on the first day, take a bus from Tokyo to Kinugawa Hot Spring in Shimoimaichi to visit. There are many interesting attractions here. Take the bus to Garen Tang on the second day, so that the trip will not be rushed! The location is about an hour and a half by bus from Kinugawa Onsen Station. Transfer to the Songyong bus and arrive in about 30 minutes more. The road to the shuttle bus is unpaved, so my butt shakes as I go. It was quite fun, and the scenery along the way was pretty, so I think I arrived sooner than I thought. The room was clean and nice. The staff were also friendly, I was also very satisfied with the facilities.

It is the deepest "hidden hot spring" in the Kanto district, Japan. The road to the lodge is rough, and you need to change to a shuttle bus on the way. It's a long road to get there and inconvenient due to the remote location, but once you soak in the wonderful hot springs, it all blows away. Recommend to those who prefer "real hot springs".

This is a secluded inn run by a descendant of the Heike clan. I visited on a solo trip in mid-December. Perhaps because it was the off-season, the price of 15,000 yen for one night with two meals was quite reasonable. It takes two hours by city bus and shuttle bus from Kinugawa Onsen Station, but it is a hidden hot spring that is well worth going to. [Room] I stayed in a 10-tatami Japanese-style room on the river side of Sekizenkan (there are also rooms with beds). The view was of the Kinugawa River and the cliffs with columnar joints. The room had a unit bath and toilet. The air conditioning in the room worked well and it wasn't cold. [Bath] There is only one open-air bath for women only, and the rest are mixed baths, but it's okay to wrap yourself in the inn's bath towel, so it's not a big deal. In addition, since it was the off-season, it was almost completely reserved for us. All the baths are free-flowing from the source. The sulfur spring water was cloudy. [Food] The standard course is just ordinary mountain village food. It looks plain, but the taste is good. You can also enjoy wild game dishes as an option. This inn is recommended for hot spring lovers who are particular about natural hot spring water.
