2-Star Hotels in New Orleans

I booked this hotel 2 months ago through hotels.com. I selected the ”pay at hotel” option. We show up and they do not have our reservation or any available rooms. Unfortunately, the card I used to reserve the room was compromised and had to be canceled. I forgot that this card was used to reserve the room, and never followed-up. Nevertheless, I would think that since I only reserved the room and would still pay at the hotel, the hotel would hold on to my reservation, or maybe contact us before canceling the reservation. This was a huge inconvenience, and ended up roaming the streets in desperate need of a place to stay late at night.

I was in town for a conference. I like mid-range hotels like Holiday Inn Express because you tend to get more complementary stuff, like breakfast and WiFi, and this was no exception. There are many positives: from here you are within easy walking distance to Bourbon Street and the CBD (Central Business District for us non-locals). It's a bit of a stretch to walk to the convention center (where I needed to be on a daily basis) or Frenchmen's street (less crowded than Bourbon, with different if not better character and music). I think I met half the Lyft drivers in NOLA, though got plenty of steps in too. There are a couple of restaurants nearby; I frequented Walk-Ons, a franchise but one that has local fare too. I had a room RIGHT next to the elevator. My first reaction was YES! I never get a short walk to the elevator! My second reaction was - $#!^ - I'm not going to be sleeping much with partiers coming off that same elevator. My fears were unfounded. The bed was plenty comfortable, the room was quiet, and I slept well. I only interacted with staff on a few occasions, but these were all positive. If you get hungry or need a drink or sundries, they have a ”Market” with assorted goods for purchase. They also have a business center (with a printer) that I did not use. I did not have housekeeping my entire four-night stay. This seems to be industry standard. You can request housekeeping, but it was just me, and I can live in my modest mess for a few days. It is my custom to include a report for traveling athletes. Swimming is a problem at this location. They have an indoor pool that is slightly larger than a bathtub. There are four local regional pools (closest being Gat Town Natatorium and Treme Recreational Community Center), but I struck out completely - all 4 were closed on the day I had planned to swim, one I found out by a failed Lyft ride to a closed community center. My suggestion is to CALL before you go, and if they don't answer, that probably means they are not there (even if the website says they are open... grr). For running, there are some treadmills at the hotel's fitness center that I did not use. About a half-mile away from the hotel is the Lafitte Greenway (look for the St. Louis Cemetary at Basin Street for the trailhead). It is 2.6 miles of paved trail for bikers, walkers, and runners. It felt safe (enough). There are several cross-streets, the more dangerous with stop signs and less dangerous with yield signs. I rarely needed to stop for traffic, and most drivers with polite, some even stopping when they did not have to so I could continue my run. A message from Captain Obvious: New Orleans is hot and humid. Avoid planning a run that will outlast your hydration. Back to the hotel. A couple of areas for improvement. The front desk was usually but not always staffed. It was not a problem for me directly, but I saw someone trying to get checked in with nobody to help him. This is the hotel where the exhibition is located. It is half an hour's drive from the airport. It is next to the French Quarter. It is only 15 minutes walk from the exhibition hall. It is very convenient.

My stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites New Orleans Downtown/French Quarter Area was wonderful. The lobby is gorgeous and the rooms are the perfect mixture of old and new. The only issues I had were one elevator went out and the extended wait for valet even though we called ahead. But even with those mishaps, I definitely plan to stay again. There was one gentleman at the front desk, I don't remember his name, but we called ahead for valet and when we arrived downstairs 20 minutes later we were informed valet had not even been called. This could've made us late for our swamp tour but thankfully we had chosen to leave early and had the time to spare. I had never heard of a king/king room prior to my stay at the Fairfield but I was pleased with the option. The decor was modern with the lighted mirrors and spacious bathrooms but the exposed wood beams and murals of the old street cars brought in an antique flair that makes this design very New Orleans.

Our daughter goes to college in New Orleans, so that always gives us a good excuse to visit one of the most fun places on earth. After four visits, the Olivier House is also our favorite hotel on earth. It is so unique and is as ”Old New Orleans” as can be. We have stayed in four different rooms and loved every one of them. My wife is a light sleeper and so we do always ask for an interior room as the French Quarter can be pretty loud on the weekends. However the rooms are so quite, which is pretty surprising since Bourbon St. is only half a block away. Once you walk in the front door it is like another world away from the bustle outside. During the day or night, the courtyards are so peaceful to spend time in. Match that with a great staff, clean rooms, nice beds and linens and it is everything you could ask for, unless you belong in a chain hotel. I am almost sorry to tell others about our secret gem, but it is just the best. Highly recommend.

Nice city Nice hostel Amazing and comfortable hostel I definitely recommend and will return... Clean, friendly and most of all, hospitable... Best linen I've ever encountered in a hostel.. It's not just a hostel, it's a boutique hostel... Big difference...

No matter which aspect you evaluate, it’s great, I love it so much

For legal reasons all of this is alleged, of course. Word to the wise, especially women, there’s a predaceous atmosphere here. Seems like the intention is to hire attractive impressionable women and encourage alcohol consumption beyond belief. One of their own volunteers likened it to “sex tourism”. It makes for a weird time. Great place to go if you’re looking for underage drinking because they’ll supply that. Got my wallet stolen on Bourbon St (watch yourself if you go), can’t help but feel like part of it was the negligence of Kat the volunteer leading. She was too drunk to properly guide. She didn’t even check on me after my wallet was stolen. I don’t blame her though, it’s on the owners. They put all the responsibility on the naïve and unpaid volunteers. The owners are never around, they just do the paperwork there. I was able to make the most of the trip but overall the hostel has a weird vibe. —— If you want to know the full story; Everything turned extremely sour when there was a misunderstanding with my reservation. I don’t blame the worker who missed it, it was a simple misunderstanding. My reservation was booked for one day shorter than I thought, they didn’t catch the mistake so I slept the night there and was charged in the morning (had I known this prior I would’ve booked different hotel for the night. Due to how much sound travels in house it’s impossible to sleep). They had no card on file because I canceled it due to the theft. They would’ve been outta luck if I had refused to pay, I could’ve challenged it due to their lack of due diligence. But I enjoy being honest. Hence why I’m leaving this review. I was waiting for my mom to send her card info so I could pay and Kat insisted on watching me pack. She sat on the floor attempting to manipulate me while packing, even tho I had earbuds in. She wouldn’t let me walk away from the fight, which tells me she’s miserable in her life. Her pride finally gave up after I continued ignoring her and packing for 5 minutes. She was attempting to have me sit in the office until payment arrived, instead of packing up. Sounded counterproductive to me because I was making myself busy, having a panic attack, while waiting for my mom to send payment info. There’s only one door to leave so this intensity made no sense. She also refused to give me a towel, even though I had an hour until check out. Seemed like an ego trip for Kat. Not to mention she didn’t sleep the night before working, she was busy partying. Kat might’ve done it, but Myrridas didn’t do anything to stop her. It was so so weird. So unprovoked. Felt very “mean high school girls” which is not that you want from “professionals” while on vacation. I understanding wanting payment but I agreed to once the card info came in and I wanted to carefully pack until check out time. Kat was acting like I killed her first born baby. The location is not far from the French Quarter and there is a park opposite. Tourists can walk, not far from the French-speaking area and the main downtown area, there are many restaurants. The equipment in the hotel is average, but the basic facilities are available. There is a yard that is good, you can smoke and chat on the loungers in the yard. Overall, it’s not bad.
