Star Beach Guest House

I am a female travelling alone and felt very safe, respected and welcomed at this hotel. Location is good, I walked around a lot and felt very safe. Amenities near by. Staff very helpful.

Overall good service, nice room (two pillows each and a big bed). The bathroom was nice and the shower had good waterpressure. Good breakfast and attending staff. We had a lovely couple of days. Very god value for money.

Liked: beachfront location with a swimming pool right on the beach, coconut trees and sundecks at the pool area, friendly and attentive staff, strong shower with hot enough water, working AC and ceiling fan, switches next to bed, charging ports next to bed, hairdryer received upon request, early check in and late check out (both at noon, instead of later and earlier), simple but sufficient included breakfast set (coffee or tea pot, cut fruits or fruit juice, toast with butter and jam, sausages or tomato, and choice of eggs), well maintained pool area. Special shout-out to Ruan who was ever helpful and kind during my 3-night stay. 👍👍👍 Disliked: my room 101 wasn't very clean, especially the bathroom, AC was making loud sound till I had to turn it off at night to sleep, no mini fridge. Also, no toiletries provided save for a small bar soap.

My wife and I booked our stay here for the last two nights of our Sri Lanka holiday. What a little gem it is. Only a 5 minute tuk tuk drive from Negombo bus terminal. We had come up on the AC highway bus from Galle. We arrived for breakfast and we had complimentary breakfasts while they got our room ready, even though we were early by a couple of hours. The staff were super helpful and very efficient. The breakfasts are great, I recommend the fruit pancakes. There is a small swimming pool but the beach is just a hop skip and a jump away: a minutes walk. It's not the most pristine beach, but I swam each day with no nasty after affects. There are a few restaurants and bars with free loungers on the beach, if you just prefer to sun bath and watch the katamarams ( The Tamil word for them) and the men fishing for prawns. Just a minutes walk up the lane and you are on the main road . Here there are plenty of places to eat and have a coffee or something stronger. All are very reasonably priced. We were glad we had an extra night here and did not have to rush around to get to the airport. Plenty of tuk tuks are on the main road and we got one for 2,000 rs to take us and our cases to the airport. All very straightforward .

Review for Star Beach Hotel, Negombo I had a deeply disappointing experience at Star Beach Hotel in Negombo. The rooms were in an unacceptable state, with filth evident everywhere. To make matters worse, there were cockroach infestations, which made the stay unbearable. Adding to the discomfort, stray dogs were allowed to roam freely around the property, creating a sense of insecurity and a lack of hygiene. This hotel fails to meet even basic standards of cleanliness and management. I strongly urge potential guests to avoid this place entirely. There are far better options available in Negombo for the same price range. PLEASE AVODE THIS FILTHY PROPERTY.

Perfect location, with a lovely swimming pool, you can be in the pool and gaze across the sand to the azure blue Indian ocean, or watch the local lads play cricket on the beach. All very serious stuff. The staff are wonderfully helpful and caring, nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant is good with a reasonable choice. They even arranged 'sri lankan' breakfast for my wife. The pool and surroundings are cleaned every day, and are always spotlessly clean. The hotel is close enough to the many restaurants and shops on Lewis Place to walk , but situated back from the road to be a peaceful retreat. Recommended, yes 100%, we have already booked to return next year, excellent value.
