The hotel boasts an excellent location and is instantly captivating. Choosing Kawaramachi for your Kyoto trip is definitely a smart decision. This charming hotel, a stylish conversion of a former school building, features a spacious lawn downstairs. Blue Bottle Coffee is also conveniently located within the hotel premises. The subway, Takashimaya department store, and the Kamo River are all just a stone's throw away.
Upon arrival, it felt both wonderfully novel and oddly familiar, as if we had stepped into the tranquil world of a Ghibli film... It was exceptionally clean and remarkably peaceful ❤️.
The hotel's attention to detail is impressive, and the staff, particularly the Japanese ladies, were incredibly thoughtful. One even went the extra mile, personally bringing drink vouchers directly to our room! (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧

The location is superb, Uniqlo / GU / Loft just across the street, Don Quixote two streets away and endless restaurants and malls for you to shop till you drop. Rooms a little small but to be expected for a Japanese standard, everything was very functional and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here

Overall, our family of three, traveling with our child, had a very pleasant and positive experience. It was comforting to hear many familiar Chinese dialects spoken by the numerous Chinese guests in the lobby. The room was very spacious with excellent facilities, which is quite a rare find in Japan. Its location was also superb, being very close to the shopping street. We could easily take an evening stroll there even after dinner around 9 PM.
We only had two minor downsides:
1. The hotel is located above a main thoroughfare, so traffic noise was quite noticeable at night.
2. The breakfast selection was rather limited. As executive room guests, we had breakfast in the lounge and were not allowed to go to the first-floor dining area. We weren't sure if this was a misunderstanding, so we couldn't tell if the first-floor offerings were more varied.
These were the only issues we encountered.

The location is excellent. Most major attractions are just 20-50 minutes away, and public transport (bus, subway) as well as dining options are incredibly convenient.
The staff all speak fluent and impressive English. Both check-in and check-out are efficiently handled by self-service machines. The breakfast staff were also very presentable and friendly.
I stayed in a twin room. It was a bit on the small side – I'm not overly picky, but the space was indeed compact, so I asked the staff to help open the window for some fresh air. On the bright side, the bathroom and shower area were surprisingly spacious.
Breakfast was nutritious and plentiful. The restaurant itself was a warm, bright, and inviting space with lovely floor-to-ceiling windows. They offered two coffee machines and even matcha lattes!
Some thoughtful highlights include: Room cleaning is performed upon guest request, which is a very eco-friendly approach and avoids unnecessary resource consumption. The smoking room was impeccably clean, and there's complimentary coffee available in the lobby.
Overall, I would definitely choose to stay here again. The geographical location is truly outstanding, and the surrounding area is packed with fantastic eateries. The shopping opportunities are also superb, absolutely unbeatable! (Plus, the Kamo River is right next door).
It's also worth noting that the hotel seems to attract a lot of Western (European and American) guests.

This place was so great.
In a small space, there are two bunk beds that can accommodate a family of four very comfortably!! There is also a large sofa bed and table.
All the elements were perfect for our family.
The location was also good, so we could enjoy Kyoto's major tourist attractions on foot.
There is no parking lot, but there are many paid parking lots around. If you look around a little, you can find a relatively cheap parking lot.
Considering the price of the hotel, the parking fee is not bad.
From Sunday to Tuesday, 2 nights and 3 days - 4,600 yen. (We kept the car parked because there was no change of mind.)
I was surprised that there was a Korean staff member at check-in, and the check-in process was also easy.
There is even a sofa bed, so I highly recommend it for a family trip of 4-5 people.

Your hotel has dishonest staff.
I definitely forgot my daughter's blanket there, as well as my boots.
I traveled 1 hour from Osaka to get them back,
but the staff said that the housekeeper did not find what I forgot, which is impossible
because I left it in the room because I did not put everything down the first time,
but I forgot to go back to get it again,
but the housekeeper said that there was nothing there.
My daughter cried and was very sad because it was very important to her,
but the staff made a hard face to help find it
and insisted that the housekeeper did not find my things. I like everything in this hotel.
This is my second time staying here,
but from now on I will not stay again.

Perfectly located, offering a quiet haven amidst the city's hustle and bustle. A commercial street is just downstairs, and it's also conveniently close to the station. Self-service toiletries are a thoughtful touch, and you can grab free ice cream from the lobby on your check-in night. The room itself was fully functional and well-equipped. My only complaint was the air conditioning unit. It was incredibly noisy, emitting a continuous, strange sound that was eerily similar to a toilet constantly flushing. I couldn't help but wonder if there was a drainage issue.

Minn Gion Kamogawa Experience: Excellent Location, Value for Money
I made the right choice staying at this hotel in Kyoto! The location is impeccable—right next to the flower path, right next to the Kamogawa River, and close to Sanjo. It's incredibly convenient for commuting, visiting attractions, and shopping. You can explore so much of Kyoto on foot—a true dream for those who want to spend their leisure time.
The rooms are surprisingly spacious, especially the triple and quad rooms. They're spacious and comfortable for a group. The rooms come with a refrigerator and microwave, making them very convenient for daily use. The washer-dryer on the first floor is also very practical, costing around 500-700 yen and easy to use, making it perfect for short stays. The check-in and check-out process was smooth and worry-free.
One minor drawback is that they don't provide cleaning or trash removal within seven days. It's a bit like a self-service B&B. It's comfortable for a one- or two-day stay, but longer stays might require more effort, and extra cleaning will cost extra. But overall, the price is very reasonable, and considering the location, space and convenience, the cost-effectiveness is really high. It is worth considering visiting Kyoto!

I like it very much. The location is good and it is convenient to go anywhere; the hotel front desk service is very good; the breakfast is simple and delicious; the rooms are fully equipped with all kinds of windows; the lighting design in the house is novel and fashionable; even though the majong is small, it has all the essentials, including a small oven and a microwave I have used them, but I haven’t had a chance to use their rice cookers and mini stoves.

This is my second time staying at Kamo River this year. The location is excellent, close to the shopping street and close to Gion, a 10-minute walk away.
It’s just that this time I stayed, maybe it’s because there are several bars near the Sanjo Bridge opposite. Young Japanese people often talk loudly in the middle of the night.
I checked in on Friday and checked out on Sunday. During the two nights, I was woken up at 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Saturday, and on Sunday night I was woken up several times by fire trucks and people talking loudly downstairs, even me. The little daughter who couldn't wake up after falling asleep was also woken up once.
Next time I come, I might consider a hotel. The surrounding sleeping environment is really not good at night.
