"The hotel is very nice and still feels brand new, with a great location close to Kii-Tanabe Station. The staff were friendly, the check-in process was fast, and the room was very clean and comfortable.
The laundry facilities, ice machine, and vending machines were all excellent. We also appreciated the free breakfast and complimentary coffee/tea in the afternoon.
This hotel is highly recommended and perfect as a starting point for the Kumano Kodo journey. One suggestion would be to offer breakfast earlier or provide breakfast boxes for hikers starting early in the morning.

"I had originally planned to book the Kamenoi Hotel in Kikatsuura, but I found this one in Tanabe at the last minute and decided to change my plans. The hotel has a shuttle bus from Tanabe, but it seems to leave around 2:30 PM. We arrived around noon, so we opted to go ourselves; a taxi would have cost around 85 yuan. The hotel scenery is beautiful, perfect for a quiet vacation and a few extra days. There are several scenic spots nearby, probably a national park, with stunning views. It was quite windy that day, but we still managed to walk around the island.
The hotel service was excellent. They even provided local snacks and green tea in the room. The best part was that from afternoon until 9:00 PM, the hotel lobby offered complimentary red wine, white wine, plum wine, beer, and snacks – that was fantastic! We ordered three simple dishes for dinner, which were quite good (it would be much more cost-effective to book a set menu that includes dinner).
In the evening, we went to the large public bath for a soak. The outdoor view of the sunset was amazing."

"I booked a budget room at this hotel for a one-night stop in Kii-Tanabe before setting off on my Kumano Kodo hike. The location is super convenient, with the train station, bus stop for the next day, convenience stores, the tourist center, and many restaurants all just a few dozen meters away. "The room was very clean and the front desk staff were really friendly. I asked for a room facing away from the railway tracks and they happily switched it for me. I booked this hotel for my Kumano Kodo trek. It's small but has everything you need: a bathtub, shower, desk, and carpet. I forgot to take photos, but the room was probably around 8-9 square meters. It's quite small, but the soundproofing was decent. I booked breakfast included, which was pretty simple. I arrived early because I had a train to catch, so I just grabbed a quick bite and headed out. It's located in the countryside, so there aren't many places to explore, and a lot of shops close early. I ended up getting dinner from a convenience store, which was conveniently located right next to the station. P.S. The electric kettle was surprisingly made of plastic!"

"The facilities and cleanliness were excellent, but because it's so new, there was still a strong smell of renovation. I had emailed ahead to inform them I'd be arriving late, and received a reply saying it was absolutely fine. However, upon arrival, the front desk was completely unstaffed, there were insects everywhere, and no code was provided to open the door to the self-service counter. Eventually, the Trip.com customer service actively contacted staff, and after waiting 25 minutes, I finally got the code for the front desk door. Only then could I self-check-in and get the room code. There was no other assistance throughout the whole process. I genuinely don't recommend this place for late arrivals."

We thought staying at Sen Retreat Takijiri was very good to start our Kumano Kodo journey. The Sen Retreat Chikatsuyu was even more impressive! The size of lodging with living room, the in unit washer and dryer, and prepared food and drink were superb! Especially, after a long journey in the mountain, the hot pot and cold beer were so comforting! We can see everything details has been taken care of. We strongly recommend our friends to stay at any Sen Retreat along Kumano Kodo hiking. We hope you continue to build up along the hiking route!

Guest UserBeyond imagination, it was so much fun, truly perfect for summer! My kids loved digging for hot springs by the river, and for the first time, they actually enjoyed soaking in them. It's a shame we didn't bring swimsuits and floats, otherwise, we could have had a water fight! Dinner was also good; although the variety wasn't huge, there was enough to eat. The service was excellent, and the hotel was very clean. The only minor complaint is that the dryer didn't quite get clothes completely dry even after half an hour, so I wasn't entirely satisfied with the dryer.

Very close to the station and Kumano Ancient Road entrance, the whole is relatively new, there is an elevator suitable for people who pull boxes, although it is a public toilet sink and bathing place, but the sanitary conditions are very good, provide Japanese breakfast and dinner, rich and delicious, very comfortable stay experience

The room was lovely, with a Japanese style. I booked this guesthouse for two nights because I was planning to hike the Kumano Kodo Chuhero route. The owner was very welcoming and attentive. The guesthouse had onsen facilities and offered restaurant reservations, but I was too tired to eat after the hike. There was a bus stop right outside the guesthouse, making it convenient to go to Chikaro-oji, Kyogawa, and Oguchi.

There is also a smart kitten explaining the stay in Cantonese. The room is clean and tidy as a whole.
Outside the window facing the sea view. Parking is free.
You can also book 30 minutes of private soup (free)
Breakfast style is not much, but enough.
Staff service is very good, kind and courteous.
I also gave my son a small gift when I checked out.
After we checked in, we went to the beach near the hotel to play until late at night. I didn't expect the staff to be so attentive and reserved a private soup for me.

The entrance was a bit hard to find, but locals were super helpful and guided me right to it. The hot spring bathhouse is huge, and the water is flowing and very clean. No waiting around, so I could just relax and enjoy the soak. It was perfect for relieving the muscle fatigue from hiking the Kumano Kodo.

On the Kumano Kodo (Kumano Kodo Trail), near the Kawayu stop, the onsen hotel I chose is right across from a natural river bath. The hotel offers free shovels so you can dig your own bath in the river. I recommend bringing a swimsuit. The hotel also has its own indoor and outdoor public onsen. I booked a room that included the outdoor bath. Staying only one night might be a bit too much. I booked a one-night, two-meal package. Without meals in the mountains, you'd probably only be able to eat instant noodles. The Kumano beef served here was excellent. There's also a dedicated bus stop at the entrance with direct buses to Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine and Shingu.

This is a very old hot spring hotel, all facilities have a sense of age, the most dynamic is the hotel staff, warm and thoughtful. Although the whole hotel is not in the center of the town, it is quiet and comfortable and clean. Every bath has a strong sulfur taste. Kumano Honno is the hometown of hot springs. It includes Tangzhifeng Hot Spring, Chuantang Hot Spring, and Duyu Hot Spring. Compared with the famous Chuantang Hot Spring, the Duyu Hot Spring Hotel we booked is more niche and quieter in a small mountain. The hotel has three floors, each floor is 10 and the foreign room. We arrived at the hotel at 1 pm. There was no regular told to check in after 3:00. We were very enthusiastic to help us check in and introduce the soup rules. The room is large, twin bed + tatami, facing the river bank, the window is cherry blossoms.
There are two hotels and four soup pools, you can soak, there is the largest open-air wind in Western Japan and the Japanese family special loan cut open-air wind.
The dinner was very delicate and the breakfast was very delicate.

The room was very clean. The landlady was kind and could communicate in Chinese using a translation software. I ordered her breakfast for 800 yen and it was very comfortable. I didn’t know what to choose from the meal. I just ate what she made and I was very satisfied. This B&B can pick you up from the station. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can only walk there. When I left, she drove me to the station. I liked it very much! The bus runs twice a day, and it’s difficult to take a taxi. The pick-up and drop-off is very pleasant.
