Rarely leave reviews. This place deserves it. It was all so perfect for a couples weekend. Pool and deck was gorgeous with great views. The hotel is close to all downtown. Every sitting area throughout the hotel was done to perfection. You can spend a full weekend just in this hotel and it’s amenities if you wanted. The club room was an added bonus with great service. When they didn’t have the drink I wanted at the club bar, Dan went out and got it for me. 5 star service and hotel.

This is an older property that clearly used to be majestic. Today the frame is there but a lack of maintenance shows. The staff were very good. They also have a 24 hour valet. My room had nice high quality furniture - not the cheap crap see in most hotels today. But the carpets were old and dirty, the paint is worn and cracked, and there was mold in the bathroom. The A/C was ok - not great but ok. The room felt humid. But it was very quiet with no street noise or hallway noise. They serve a decent breakfast. The location on Market St is close enough to the action to explain the rates. If this property was out by the airport it would be $59/night. Overall, if being on Market St is important then it's fine. But if a clean and shiny hotel is important this isn't the place. Bottom line, I'd stay here again if I needed to be in the area. Mostly because of location and staff. Without that I wouldn't return.

I've stayed here in the Renaissance a couple of other times prior to this, and overall, enjoyed my stay. That said, although there was good service, I feel like things are starting to slip, making it more along the lines of a 2 or 3 star hotel, not a 4 star. And it was little things like my water pressure in my shower was horrible, the shower basin flooded, as the drain must have been clogged, and there was peeling paint around the light fixture in the shower. Additionally, the bedside lamp attached to the wall was sagging, so it gave the impression of being a bit ghetto. My bed was okay, but not amazing, and the seating furniture seemed a bit worn. I know it has to be hard to run a 4 star hotel and keep things up to standard, but just from these things being a part of my experience didn't rock my world while there, but I did expect more from the Renaissance and it's 4 star hotel rating.

This was no doubt at one time a wonderful Inn. Now unfortunately it is showing it’s age and has an air of neglect about it. There were several positives: very spacious accommodations, lovely grounds and easy walk ability to the formal Gardens of Middleton Place, view from our second floor room looked like we were in a tree house elevated along the canopy of the Oaks. This weekend trip was a belated birthday present from my husband and he bought a package. There was a huge, gorgeous flower arrangement in the room along with a cold bottle of Prosecco in the frig. The package included dinner at the Middleto Place restaurant which was lovely. Now for the reason for the 3 stars. This is a very expensive place to go for a weekend but I don’t mind the money if everything is appropriate for the cost. Our first impression when we entered the room was that it smelled strongly of bug spray. And that smell lingered all weekend. But even with that we had a couple infamous Palmetto bugs in various states of death throes and the little inch worms and flying bugs that seemed like fire flies didn’t seem phased by the spray. When we shared this with the desk the response was, well we are in the woods. The windows take up an entire wall and would be stunning if they were cleaned. Again the woods and humidity must make it challenging but for the price I would expect more. The paneling was showing its age as well and the sofa and overstuffed chair. The room was huge and we could have danced but it only had a queen sized bed which looked smaller because of the room size. The mattress sank terribly in the middle and every time one of us moved we ended back up in the middle. A breakfast buffet was included and it was also a bit neglected. On the bright side it looked like they were renovating the unit next to us so hopefully they will return this place to its original glory. I would try it again if I knew it was in an updated room, and during the off season when prices are better.

Gorgeous hotel with welcoming staff and spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable rooms. The Starbucks cafe downstairs is a great touch. My biggest complaint was the lazy valet workers out front who saw us pull up and didn’t care. They just kept talking to each other and we finally had to approach them to get any service. Other than that, we had a great sleep over the last couple nights and have been very happy here and it’s centrally located and nearby the market.

The hotel lobby and garden are very beautiful, with free ice water all day, and the summer is really comfortable. The pool is open until 10 o'clock in the evening. It is a bit small. It feels like playing with water and sunbathing. The conditions are very good, with towels. Booked a twin room suitable for three people's room type and price, but the room is smaller than the imagination, can not sleep three people, had to pay for the room at the front desk. The location is very good and the shopping around the restaurant is very convenient. Parking, 39 dollars a day, valet parking.

As many folks have already commented, this is a dated hotel that feels a little cramped and claustrophobic. The rooftop bar is nice. The hotel elevators can get overwhelmed during peak hours. The things I liked were the price and the central location. It was convenient to downtown, James Island, N. Charleston, the plantation gardens, etc. Additionally, when it costs >$500 night to stay anywhere downtown, this hotel with its free parking is a reasonable choice. What I disliked the most was pulling out of the parking lot. The hotel is situated on a very busy road, and whether you're exiting north or south, you're contending with very fast traffic and blind spots. You really need to be alert. In summary, a very dated but reasonably priced hotel.

We really loved this hotel. Not too far from the airport and close to downtown too. Price was a bit higher than we hoped but once you see the room it's worth it. Breakfast staff really friendly and helpful but the breakfast could use some work though except the Waffles those were pretty good. The front desk ladies are so warm and welcoming except for one. I had to go back to ensure I got her name Kaya. She needs customer service training or maybe she's not a people's person if so she's doing the wrong job. Her approach is like she's bothered by you when you go to the desk. First time in Charleston so I asked directions to the Historic District and where to find what. She looked at me and said ”ma'am you can use your GPS that's what I use” and she went back on the computer to do whatever she was doing. That same day we left and went to get a quick lunch at Ruby Tuesday next door (DO NOT TRY THEM), my husband who is super friendly and talkative with everyone was just sharing with her about Ruby Tuesday and asking if she ever tried it, bluntly said NO, and went back on her phone. The ladies that work at night were totally opposite, Tonyann and Fiona. They recommend Triangle Char and Bar a MUST try very close to the hotel. They always have a smile and are ready to help. Overall, I'll definitely be back at the hotel, but hopefully, Kaya isn't there when I am.

Wonderful hotel - have stayed there multiple times over the past 10 years. Service is excellent and room quality is very good. We stay at the across-the-street location. Only complaints were the bag breakfast was not delivered one morning (wish they would go back to the seated breakfasts of the past) and the evening cookies were stale several evenings. The valet parking was very expensive, $49 per night, but the service was excellent. Would not ask for a better location - walking distance to all wonderful restaurants and many museums. Will certainly go back next year.

We stayed at Liberty Place over this past weekend. Upon arriving to the hotel, we were greeted with Zac at the valet pickup/drop off area. He was very pleasant and helpful. Our paths crossed multiple times over the weekend and he was consistently friendly. He is a wonderful representation for hospitality especially since he is the first face you're likely to see. We witnessed another guest who wasn't so happy and seemed to take it out on Zac (which he did nothing wrong). He was kind, courteous, and just let it roll off his back. When my car service didn't show to take us to the airport he assisted us in finding alternative transportation. He really is an asset to this hotel.

Overall, clean place, friendly staff and decent breakfast. Some of our petty, yet disappointments: both end tables were sticky and had not been clean for a while; could not run fan all the time on hvac unit; flat pillows and no in room microwave. Also, for light sleepers, be sure to request top floor. We were on second floor and could hear kids running and doors slamming all night. Would not hesitate to stay there again knowing these things.

We saw a number of positive reviews of the Bijou but it was disappointing. First some background: the manager told us that the inn was rather run-down when she took over 2-3 years ago and that she has tried to improve the experience for guests. It appears that she has not been terribly successful. We stayed in the Sweetgrass room, located on the first floor. The inn is hard to categorize. We were looking for a ”Bed and Breakfast” rather than a traditional hotel and Bijou sometimes gets categorized that way but it is unclear whether that is how the inn wants to market itself. That said it's not a traditional hotel either. Our room was relatively small but it was furnished with a king-size bed that did not leave much space for anything else. There was only one chair in the room. The bed was comfortable enough but it is set up with what appears to be a regular box spring and one of the newer-style very deep mattresses covered with a thick topper. The result is a bed that is quite tall. I had no difficulty climbing onto the bed but my wife (5'0”) struggled to do so. We have stayed in other inns with that setup and they typically provide some sort of step to facilitate getting onto the bed but our room did not have anything of that sort. The room A/C was noisy. The doors are not hung properly and can be very difficult to close. Security does not appear to be a priority. The room was clean and everything seemed to work OK otherwise. It did offer free WiFi that performed adequately. The inn does offer a Continental Breakfast though the choices were somewhat limited. On our first morning one of the muffins looked good but it had mold on the bottom, leaving us wondering how fresh some of the pastry items were. The pastry I sampled was dry and seemed stale. The inn is located in the historic district which is nice for tourists, but it is next to one of the carriage ride businesses so there is a definite odor (sometimes overwhelming) of manure that is present on stepping out of the room. The manager is nominally present at the inn during daytime office hours but I do not recall seeing her at all other than on the afternoon we arrived. One of the reasons we enjoy staying at B&B's is the ability to interact with the hosts and other guests. That sort of interaction is not part of the package at the Bijou. There was no common room (other than the tiny space where breakfast items are set out) and rooms open onto an outside walkway. There are a couple of chairs set up in the walkway but the stench from the neighboring carriage business does not create a pleasant ambience for relaxing conversation. Parking is not convenient. There is a rather expensive lot across the street but the less expensive lot that the inn recommends is a couple of blocks away. The result is that the inn is not a very good B&B, but neither is it a real hotel. I don't know how to categorize it. In some ways it felt like one of the cheap motels my family stayed in ba

GGuest UserWe loved our stay at the Hampton Inn! Our only comments are the breakfast was okay (COVID restrictions limited the choices) and the hotel has a slight musty smell as it’s an older building. But you cannot ask for a better location and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend staying here!

BB BMarch 2024 Staying for a visit with family on John’s Island. Very convenient, front desk staff very nice, large rooms, older hotel but clean with well stocked rooms. Breakfast provided, plenty of choices, food typical. Upon arrival you are told and written that there will be NO room service unless asked for so needless to say we were quite surprised when a woman came barging into our room the first morning, clearly with a pass key. She had no “normal” housekeeping cart with her, only a trash bin with what looked like a bag of some supplies. No identification or housekeeping clothing on. Could not speak any English to even explain why she was standing in our room. Needless to say she was escorted out. Second day it happened again but did not enter, only a slight knock. Front desk was notified both days. They were very apologetic explaining, new employees in training , no English etc. I get it but in this day and time it was quite unsettling to say the least not to mention a little sketchy. Just a reminder to lock up and protect your valuables, everywhere. Hopefully the hotel is diligently working to remedy this. Special note, for some reason there is a 2-3 in gap between the room door and the floor. Might want to take a towel and stuff under the door for extra privacy, safety etc. Very weird. Overall, financially it was fine. Will we stay there again? Not sure yet.

GGuest UserThe room was clean and in good shape. My problem was we were not able to close the black out curtains and a bright street light shone in. The room had no view except for the air conditioning units. This disturbed our sleep all night. The food was good but a bit pricey. The service was good and the staff that we met were friendly. Over all I probably would stay here again, but ask for a better room.

KKeith OAnother year, another corporate meeting at the Cambria in Charleston. This year it started off with a very indifferent front desk reception from the desk staff. The rooms are quite decent, but nothing seems to have been done about the hot water issues. If you want a lukewarm shower, get up early, and run the water for at least 7 to 10 minutes so that it warms up. Our room was ”serviced” each day, however no new coffee or cups were placed on the coffee bar. The bartender was downright hateful, yelling at people, and cut off food service suddenly. This was unfortunate for those who had traveled from the US West Coast, and had not had anything for supper, and had no transportation. There are no walkable restaurants near the hotel. The bartender further was yelling at people, and told one in our party ”I am a single mother.” He informed her that he was a single father, but he was still working and making arrangements for his children's care. Just unnecessary. The breakfasts are $13 plus tax, and the breakfast area was dirty. There was old food on the tables, and the offerings included rubber eggs, cement grits, swimming in grease bacon. The whole breakfast self service area was filthy. This hotel knew this large group was coming, yet there was no plan to accommodate the crowd. This is just poor hotel management. PParkerI am in town weekly, and stay at this location about 90% of the time. The staff has always been most helpful and friendly. Rooms are always clean. Parking is convenient. The only negative that I have, is that the TV’s in all of the rooms are offset in an unusual position, which makes it difficult to watch from anywhere in the room.
