The hotel itself is very nice and probably the best you can get in Mukdahan - at least as my research showed. The location is awesome: the hotel is directly at the Mekong River, and you have a fantastic view over Laos. Our room had one big window to the river, which was terrific, especially during the morning when the sun rises, and you have some magic when the sun wakes you up, and you have that undisturbed view. Although the hotel appears a bit aged, the room was very nice and clean. I always pay special attention to the bed and the bathroom, and both were without any reason for complaints. The mattress was a bit firm for my taste, but I think that is highly subjective. I had to wait several minutes (!) for hot water in the shower, and the temperature was not stable - so I had to adjust the temperature several times. But apart from that, everything was fine. Breakfast was absolutely ok for the size of the hotel. There was a mix of western and local items - nothing special, but I had my eggs, toast, coffee, and jam, which were perfectly fine for me. As everywhere in Thailand, you also get excellent fresh fruits (watermelon, pineapple, some orange melon - I forgot the name). No cold cut or cheese, which I did not miss, but who expects a fully served continental breakfast should be aware. Now to some quirks: this is the first hotel ever in my travel life that asked for a deposit for the room key cards (in cash). And they gave us just one card for the room, which does mean you cannot run the AC when leaving the room - not the best idea in the humid summer weather. When my wife asked for a second key card, reception denied referring to a limited number of overall key cards available, which was strange. However, when I asked the following day again, I got a second one without problems and without asking for an additional deposit. Further, the restaurant's kitchen closed at 7 pm as everybody was tired from Thai New Year/Songkran - fascinating explanation. Fortunately, we had some street food before and were ok, but what do they do with hungry guests who just want to have dinner? Probably, they have to order food from outside, but 7 pm is still dinner time. But we just wanted to have a glass of wine - unfortunately, bottles only, so we ordered one. The service was more like a hostel, where you could help yourself in the kitchen: the wine was brought to the table, but we had to open the bottle and pour it ourselves. Whenever we wanted to have something (additional Glas, some water, etc.), we had to walk over to the guys who obviously enjoyed theirs after work time. But to be fair, the gentlemen were very nice and friendly and helped us with what we asked for. It was just not the typical bar or restaurant experience you would expect. However, we had nice two hours on the terrace enjoying the full moon and the view over Laos. Overall, I can only recommend this hotel if you stay in Mukdahan. The quirks are precisely that: an unexpected and a bit funny

AASEAN-fanI stayed here because it is only about a 10 minute walk from the bus station and I arrived on a late night bus. Walk in rate was same as booking in advance and check in was very painless - just supplied my passport and signed a single piece of paper. The room was small and bare and the fit and finish was a bit rough around the edges. I did stay again a few days later and the second room was in better condition. The mattress was very different to any other hotel I have stayed in, in Thailand. It was soft to the touch, and then had a firmer under mattress. This made for a very comfortable bed. The pillows were well stuffed and gave me a good nights sleep. The hotel offered no food at all (except for crisps and pot noodles at reception) but did offer free 'Nescafe' machine coffee from 6AM. It was enough to get me started but I am not keen on this sort of coffee - but that is just personal taste. There is a 7/11 within about a 10 minute walk from the hotel if you want more substantial snacks or drinks. One room I had offered an electric water heater shower - which was fine. The other room had hot water plumbing that was super hot at night, so beware, and freezing cold in the morning. There is no wardrobe, just a few hangers, so leave your gear in you bag... As with many Thai hotels - there is a staircase that runs to the top of the building - with no doors - so in the even of a fire - the smoke would soon reach every floor... Luckily there is a nice lift for those who can't make it up the stairs.
GGuest UserRoom #314 2 x Nights Booked via Agoda Be aware the bedroom walls are paper thin... You hear everything from the adjacent rooms ( bathroom etc ) The hotel is an excellent place to relax and enjoy a room with the view of the Mekong river - that is why you come here! Staff are good. The early check in was much appreciated. The included breakfast is limited - Fried Eggs, 1 x hot Noodle dish, rice soup, Bread Toast, Fruit, Tea and Coffee. The room is large enough and the view from floor #3 is magnificent across the Mekong to Laos. The hotel is perfectly positioned in Mukdahan, far enough away from the city noise and bustle but close enough with only a 5 minute car ride. I'm thinking we will make this our go to relax hotel....... We will book and visit again.
GGuest UserWe stayed here for 1 night in transit during our travels in Isan. We were pleased with the convenience of the place close to the proximity of the city of Mukdahan. The is a modern chain hotel which was fully booked and we were lucky to get the room. The bed was comfortable and the shower had acceptably hot water. But the air con was a bit kludgy in how to adjust the settings to create the most comfortable air flow. However, in the end we found the right temperature for the room to allow a comfortable nights sleep. For 750thb for a 1 night stay without breakfast, we found this place to 'fill the bill' with respect to our hotel needs for a single night stay in the area.
QQuacksalbeSo we (4 adults, 2 children) found it pleasant even though the pool was too cold for us soft eggs 😋. Personal friendly, breakfast we had nothing, rooms clean and large enough. Parking directly in front of the house. If you are again in Mukdahan then this hotel ( we have also looked at “better”). Price/performance good.
SStormSpearSituated along the highway, the outlook of Villa Thiwa Hotel looks nice and inviting but the room shows signs of wear and tear. The entire compound has 3 blocks: A, B & C which houses some long term tenants on block A while blocks B & C are for short term guests. This is a family-run hotel and checking in was simple which required a 100 THB deposit for the key card. The room shown in the picture looks new and bright but in actuality, it was half bright and looked somewhat tired. The bed lamps in the picture were absent and hence making the room half-bright or some may refer to as dark. Water pressure is good and hot water is constant for a freezing temperature of December. It is a non-smoking room but ashtray can be found on the balcony attached to the room. I am a non-smoker and fortunately, there isn't any cigarette smell in the room. Breakfast was simple with self-help coffee, toasts, meatball rice soup, and Vietnamese rice noodles just to keep your hunger away and not meant for a sumptuous meal. Overall, the price for a night stay is around 500 THB which somewhat makes it attractive even though it is out of nowhere and every choice of destination outside the hotel would require a taxi. I would recommend for a night stay if you are passing through provided you have transport.
