Ajaccio Hotels with Gym

As members of a 24-strong Great Rail Journeys Group, my wife and myself are nearing the end of a 2 day stay at the Mercure Ajaccio Hotel. The property is located opposite the Port and a short walk (10 & 15 mins respectively) to both the Railway Station (our Group arrived from Calvi) and the town centre. There are also many bars, restaurants & supermarkets nearby but my advice Is to stick to the main roads when walking as it’s easy to lose one’s bearings in the side streets. The rooms are perfectly adequate - with all the usual amenities (I particularly liked the walk-in shower and plenty of hot water) and the staff most amendable This was very much so in the Breakfast area on the 2nd Floor - adjacent to the swimming pool - where tge 2 ladies could not have been more helpful. All in all, a most comfortable stay and I certainly would be happy to return.

First of all and without much ado: I really have to issue a warning here. This hotel is an absolute disgrace. Nothing that is promised on the website is even close to being true. I booked this hotel for one night and - frankly - was surprised that the price had been reduced from supposedly over 100€ to under 70€ - but I put this down to the off-season. The check in. Coming from the airport, I wanted to check in 1 hour earlier than planned (to which, according to ******* as a gold member, I’m entitled to and this was advertised by the hotel, as well). The receptionist turned this down so I had to contact her manager. After a while, she came out of her office, deranged and obviously drunk, and slurred something about ”impossible behavior”. She was probably uncomfortable with her condition, as she could barely speak a sentence, because she gave me the key to my room and pointed out that the much-praised rooftop was closed due to a drainage problem and that I could ‚enjoy the beautiful sides of the city outside‘. The rooftop was one of the main reasons for me to choose this hotel. The room. I wasn't expecting much and didn't plan to stay in the room for long due to the good weather. What was important to me was the rooftop. When I entered the room, the blow hit me. The room was so small that I could hardly turn around. It smelled like mold. The guest's long hair was in front of me (or the cleaning staff?) on the bed, but I also found it in the shower. The ”view” from the tiny window shows the view of a dark courtyard from which there is a terrible smell of cigarette smoke. Uninsulated electric cables protrude from the ceiling. It was a nightmare. I took my stuff and went back to reception - I couldn't stay here. Waiting for the elevator, I heard loud and prolonged unambiguous moans across the hall - I've rarely been so ashamed of others. In short - there is nothing left of the ”gloss” of the ratings. Based on my experiences, this hotel can only be described as a hot sheet hotel (no-tell hotel). The manager was outrageous and her employee no less rude, but at least she wasn't drunk in broad daylight. Both of them steadfastly refused to refund me the amount paid. I will have to contact ******* over this. Clear negative recommendation from my travel experience in 2022. I strongly advise against a visit if style, ambience and health are important to you.

Very good hotel, very formal. Just 5 kilometers west of Ajaccio, the sea here is very beautiful. It takes only 10 minutes to drive to Ajaccio. Very convenient, and parking is free.

We had a lovely one week stay at this hotel. It's rare that a hotel fully meets expectations, and on this occasion it did. We did opt for a superior room, and in my opinion it was worth it. Breakfast was good, pleny of choice. The bar was handy for returning late. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and you don't really need to go into Ajaccio centre to eat. If you head towards Ajaccio there are some good (but pricey) places. If you head in the other direction (towards the Iles) then there are a few more places that are not so expensive but they are offset from the coastal road. In the hotel the shower worked well, always giving hot water. The air con was good, sometimes we had to turn it off as it got a bit too much but very effective. Staff were friendly and the place had a really relaxing feel to it. We hired a car, and to be honest unless you want the stress of driving through Ajaccio and go out far, you don't really need one. There is parking at the rear and some street, although the street is exposed. The hotel is more like a 4-star, and we had nothing to complain about. Corsica is not cheap so I was glad to have chosed this as it turned out to be a really good choice. Oh and the ice cream was really good at the hotel bar.

Ideal accommodation for a change of scenery with the sea view, pleasant heated swimming pool, very friendly staff, completely correct accommodation even if some elements would need to be changed (the chest of drawers that lived and the shower curtain). Re
