The George Penang by The Crest Collection

It started off rough. Got into the hotel early to leave our luggage and the guy manning the check in was cold, standoffish, and didn’t even bother replying to our pleasantries. When we returned, a misunderstanding ensured. Cos of my earlier encounter, I was just unreasonable. But thank goodness for Suhaila (I think) and her manager - they deescalated the situation with grace and aplomb. That bump aside, I had a lovely time. Was in room 213. Initially I was worried because I have read about noise issues coming from the club next door. But either the club was closed or the soundproofing worked, there were no disturbances. We slept like babies. The room was beautiful, and the location is amazing. This hotel is highly Recommended. Just don’t bother to pay extra for the breakfast. That was just too sad. We tried it on our last day in the hotel as we were leaving early for the airport. It was dismal.
Macallum Central Hotel Managed By The Ascott Limited

We stayed here for 1 night in a 2-bedroom suite. This hotel is made up of double-storey shoplots, where the units are located on the upper floor. Access to each suite is by key-code, from the street sidewalk. Reception area is on the ground floor of one of the shoplots, facing the busy road. So, it was quite difficult to stop our GrabCar there and unload our luggage. There isn't any porter service available, so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs to your suite. Check-in was fast, but the staff member handling our check-in was brash and inhospitable. I understand that he may have wanted to complete the check-in process as fast as possible but he made me feel irritated and unwelcome. A refundable deposit will be required. Suites are exactly as advertised, with furnishings that look and feel new. There is only 1 washroom available though, so each guest has to take turns. Towels and toiletries are provided. Taps/showers all come with hot/cold water. Kitchenette area comes with refridgerator, microwave, electric kettle, electric stove and a 7kg/5kg washer+dryer machine (all from Electrolux)! Was very impressed that a washing machine was provided and managed to wash/dry my laundry with the detergent provided in the kitchen sink cabinet. Dish washing liquid and cutlery are also provided. Bedroom was comfortable but there is some noise from the traffic on the busy road. For us, it was still bearable and we managed to sleep. On hindsight, maybe this place isn't so good for people with young children. As our suite had a staircase from the suite door, and children have to be monitored to prevent them from falling down these stairs. Secondly, the suite door opens out directly to the street sidewalk, which is right next to the busy road. Again young children with a tendency to run around, may accidentally run into traffic on the road. However, if you do not have young children with you, are not a light sleeper and need facilities like the one at home, do consider this place.
Hutton Central Managed By The Ascott Limited

I was looking for accommodation that is near to the Heritage area and found this hotel. The location is very good. You are almost at the central of many things. Going to Penang is about enjoying their food and within 500m you can get so many choices from local, fusion and international. You get everything for a home, fully equipped kitchen except for a diswasher. An induction hob and a microwave is provided complete with pot and pans. So if you wish to cook, just go to nearest market and buy the ingredients. There is a two door refrigerator and not the usual mini bar fridge. No need to go to laundry, they give a washing machine in the unit. Super convenient if you plan to stay longer. The unit is spacious for a family of four but there is only one room with queen bed. So the kids can sleep with extra mattress or at the couch. Wifi is present but not as fast but good enough for you to browse and read email. One issue that will be a challenge is parking space. The hotel is a converted shoplot next to a busy street, so the authority has removed the parking in order to widen the road. You can go and park by the road side at the smaller street. A bit problem during day time but not really an issue after 7pm. If you are not driving, then no issue at all. Overall, it is a good place and value for money.
Ascott Gurney Penang

My elderly parents stayed at The Gurney during their medical checkup in Penang and accidentally left behind some documents. We emailed the hotel and left a message through booking.com to no avail. Then through a phone call, we got connected to Danesh at the Concierge Department, who then went the extra mile to coordinate among various departments within the hotel, and mailed the document through express courier service. His attentive service is highly appreciated.
Citadines Connect Georgetown Penang

We stayed with the Ascott group numerous times for its cleanliness and well-maintained facilities around the world, and Citadines Connect Georgetown is no exception. The building is renovated from a historical building which gives the hotel a mixture of cultural and contemporary vibe. It's a 3-story newly-built hotel and everything you see is brand new and tidy. The lobby is not large, but there are plentiful spaces to rest for a while. The room we stayed in is Studio Executive, and it's clean enough. The air-conditioning system utilized a touch panel for you to easily adjust to your liking. There are no drinking bottles inside the room but a water dispenser is just in the hallway, both environment-friendly and convenient. One of the things worthy of notice is the tap water system, where hot and cold water may be installed conversely. The hotel itself is located around minutes walk from Komtar neighborhood, and you can easily take buses to the airport or to other areas of Penang via the Komtar terminal. Several malls are also in this area to give you the convenience of shopping. The well-known hawker food centre at Lebuh Presgrave crossroad is also close by, where you can easily grab most of the famous and delicious local dishes here. CAT bus station is also not far from the hotel, and you can tour the UNESCO sites with it for a day trip. Overall, it's an excellent choice to stay here for its brand-new facilities, and its convenience regarding transportation, shopping, and dining.
