3-Star Hotels in Chicago

Checking in at the Congress Plaza was so straight forward. I was upgraded without asking to a King size bed with a lake view. The room was perfect. Fridge, safe, TV , Coffee and water.

It’s a nice hotel. The room was very clean. Check-in was no problem. Very nice to us. It was just the parking was a block and a half away. But we did find a parking spot on the street on the opposite side of the block. You can drop your stuff off in front of the hotel and check in before you go find your parking. Lots of places to go eat in the area. I’m not sure but I think this is part of Chinatown. If not it’s right next to it . We definitely stay again.

The location is excellent . It is about a two minute walk from the north end of Michigan Avenue very close to the Hancock building/Water Tower. Staff were super friendly and helpful from the moment we came through the door. They assisted with parking as well as giving an extensive list of where to eat in the neighborhood. They also provided personal recommendations when we asked. Thanks Mark, Felicia and Alicia for your great service and charming personalities; you made the stay feel even more special. It is an older hotel that is not likely to appeal to those who want one with all the bells and whistles and an expansive fancy lobby associated with a modern, high-end hotel. Those aspects may be nice but they also come at a substantial price and do not guarantee great service. This hotel is an excellent value for the money. Our rooms were clean, spacious and the beds were comfortable. The views from the room were lovely so that was an extra bonus. There are refrigerators in the room and plug-in slots for electronic devices along the edge of the desk. Other reviewer‘s have not noticed these items and have complained that they did not exist. There was nothing that we needed that was not there. While we did not request any, I heard from another guest in the elevator that staff was very responsive on bringing them ice when they needed it. Hotel staff also take Covid safety seriously. This was a great stay in a beautiful city. I would not hesitate to return to the Whitehall.

i was worried since i ve heard of a lot of rumors going around us hotels such as bed bugs, dust and dirty blakets. however those were all cleared once i got into the room. room was small but cozy and they always clean my room as if there was no body in the room. more over, location was also good. close to the station, bikes and chicago river. it was pleasure to stay there.

It’s convenient to go to the starting point and the finish line. The house price of more than 3,000 yuan a day is relatively cheap compared to surrounding areas. I won’t consider staying for a second time. The software and hardware are more than average, so I can only make do with it.

The hotel was great. Good amenities and friendly staff. The hot tub wasn't working for us, but overall great. I'm especially thankful to the security and cleaning staff. I left a very important family item in my room after check out. I called the desk and was forwarded to cleaning/security staff. I spoke to the supervisor, Brandon and he was amazing. His staff understood the importance, check the room, found my item and had open communication with me. I drove a few hrs to pick it back up. They had it safe and sound. They didn't disregard my issue and were extremely pleasent and understanding to me. I applaud them and recommend their Hilton Garden Inn. They were top notch staff. First of all, we must explain that the security of Chicago is a big problem. Although this hotel and location are quite good, it is recommended to pay attention to safety when traveling. Try not to go out late at night without going out. I heard gunshots in the hotel one day, and it turned out to be a real gunfight between the police and the robber. The gangster injured the policeman. It happened more than a block away at 3:30 in the morning. This is not a problem of location or hotel, this is the case in Chicago. The front desk guy in the store has a very good service attitude, recommended to us and helped order the authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. very delicious. After the accident that day, we were notified in time not to go out late at night. Overall the experience is good. I lived in a bunk bunk room type. It was very comfortable to live in a bunk bunk in a hotel for the first time. Small but complete. The traffic is pretty good. Adults (over 21) can go to the bar diagonally across the street is the famous beauty service bar. We were still students and didn't go in. But the shooters bar itself is indeed very famous.

The hotel is close to the city center, it is very convenient to get in and out, there are many famous restaurants around, the hotel environment is pretty good, but the room price is too small, it feels oppressive, the sound insulation is poor, and you can clearly hear the sound of the corridor and the police cars passing by on the road outside Sound, I guess I won't stay next time, I still prefer hotels near the lake. High factor of safety.

TLDR - They gave away our confirmed room, barely seemed to care, and basically did nothing to fix. Group of 8 friends from around the country came into Chicago to see Pearl Jam and catch a ballgame. We had confirmed our 4 double rooms, had our credit card on file, checked in via the app, exchanged messages on the app, and responded to an email asking if we were confirmed. So when we came at 5pm and they said they had 3 rooms and one them was a king (vs. two doubles) we were very disappointed. Carla the front desk manager and Dacquan the front desk staff shared there was a problem…they overbooked and every room was taken and booked in so we were out of luck. Neither of them seemed to care at all. We were offered ‘air mattresses’ (terrible, poor quality) and 20 vouchers for a breakfast that we came to find out had a 90 minute wait then next morning. They claimed to have tried to find another room at another hotel but didn’t show any evidence of it. No apologies, no sincerity just a ‘whoops sucks for you’. Terrible experience and customer service. Honestly shocked that this is allowed to be a Marriott property. Gold member and stayed at 100’s of Marriotts through my many years of business and personal travel. Avoid or know they will screw you over at any moment.

We chose Home2 Suites By Hilton in Chicago River North for our stay from July 4th to July 14th, 2024, largely due to our Diamond Status with Hilton. Booking through our AMEX card, we were surprised to find our Hilton membership status was not recognized. After calling to rectify this, we learned that to receive credit, we would have had to book directly through Hilton at an additional cost of $500. This left us feeling undervalued as loyal Hilton members. Upon arrival at 4:30 PM, there were no staff or security to greet us, only signs directing us to the second floor for check-in. The representative there was curt, offering no customer service, and failed to provide the room we requested. Despite being Diamond members and traveling with four people, we received only two water bottles. The suite itself was clean and adequately spacious, but lacking a cooking surface, which we had to request multiple times before receiving a dirty, stained hotplate after three days. The lack of security was concerning, especially with homeless individuals sleeping outside the hotel. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, the bathroom doors did not lock, and the room’s A/C failed to manage the humidity, making sleep difficult. Despite raising these issues, there was minimal response from the staff, and no follow-up from management. The breakfast was repetitive, with pre-cooked eggs and terrible coffee. Maintenance did address some concerns quickly, but overall, the service quality was poor, including multiple issues with room keys and the Hilton app not functioning properly. In summary, our experience at this Home2 Suites was disappointing, from inadequate customer service to subpar amenities and a lack of security. This stay has significantly impacted our perception of Hilton’s commitment to its loyal members. We will not be returning to this location and question the value of Hilton rewards if they require additional costs for recognition.
