Yuyu Free Youth Hostel (Chengde Mountain Resort)

Check in was easy, last was nice, shower worked great, there’s a busy bar downstairs which was open late!

The sheets were stained, and the bed was the hardest I've ever slept on. The shower took a long time to drain which made the floor wet for a while. I stayed there on a Friday, and someone threw a huge party in the second floor lounge. I had been wondering about the loud music and screaming when trying to fall asleep, and when I came down the next morning, everywhere was littered with bottles and cigarettes and crazy dirty... The hostel's location is good, and the girl who staffed the counter when I checked in was nice, but overall this was not the greatest hostel experience and I am not sure I would recommend it, unless your main priority is price

Very friendly youth hostel in the center of Chengde. The location is excellent and you can do almost anything by feet. The bar is a nice touch as they have good beers and I was able to play dice with other guests. The atmosphere was nice and evrybody left before I went to bed at midnight. The staff is great and helpful as they allowed me to change room in order to flee a very rude guest that would listen to videos on his phone without earphones very loudly. I also was able to do my laundry for a cheap price but they could invest in more hangers.

The hostel is super trendy! Walking in, I had to make sure I was at the right place because the reception is a cosy bar! The staff did not speak English but we overcame the language barriers using WeChat. Everyone is very friendly and patient! Even the dog called 由由! The cubicle beds are more luxurious than other hostels I stayed at. They are spacious and provide almost complete privacy. I also received slippers, so it was extra cosy! The bathroom can be improved because without shower curtain even the toilet gets wet, but it is spacious enough to keep your clothes dry. This hostel is suitable for longer stays as well, especially with friends because they have many activities and games at the hostel. Reception helps with the organisation of tours to the grasslands and many other trips as well (although these tours are fully in Chinese. So some Chinese language skills are recommended). If I ever return to Chengde, then I will stay there again!
