Lanxin001I highly recommend this onsen hotel, ranked among the top 30 in all of Japan, to anyone visiting Matsumoto! The room views, hot springs, food, and service are all impeccable. Having stayed at many Japanese onsen hotels, this one truly offers excellent value for money.
Service: The hotel is a 20-minute drive from JR Station and provides a shuttle service. When you arrive at Matsumoto Station, you can leave your luggage at the ACE Hotel, part of the same group, freeing you up to explore. ACE then delivers your luggage to Shoho by 4 PM, which is a very thoughtful arrangement. The front desk service is warm and friendly. A gentleman named Ito helped us book a restaurant in Ise for the next day, making several calls until he finally secured a reservation, for which we are very grateful 🙏.
Ambiance: The 56-square-meter mountain-view room is spacious and comfortable, with views of a small town nestled beneath snow-capped mountains right outside the window. The sunrise and sunset are absolutely beautiful. The large public baths on both sides offer unique scenic experiences and are both worth trying, especially the snow mountain view bath, which provides expansive vistas.
Facilities: The room is very well-maintained and fully equipped. The hotel also has a souvenir shop, and complimentary drinks are available in the afternoon.
Dining: The half-board plan includes a multi-course kaiseki dinner and a buffet breakfast. The variety is extensive, the food is delicious, and it's well worth the price. If you opt not to include meals, there's a ramen restaurant in the hotel, catering to various budgets.

Fukashiso could be one of the loveliest accommodation that I have ever stayed at. The staff were very polite, attentive and extremely helpful and courteous. The place itself is so beautiful and quaint. Traditional garments are provided as an option if you want to dress up for dinner. Made for great photo ops! The Kaiseki was the most beautiful equivalent of a degustation I’ve tried, and it was served in a lovely separate intimate dining area. During dinner Nobu-San a fourth generation family member of the owners greeted us which was a lovely touch. Soba was freshly made at the accomodation. We stayed two nights and the Kaiseki menu was different each time. Breakfast was a nice assortment of Japanese and Western options and the coffee machine was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the onsens, there are two public ones that switch locations for men and women and a private one. They were well equipped and relaxing. Our room was on Level 1 with a private bathroom, seating area and little garden view. Overall this place is highly recommended. For a traditional ryokan experience, it was so nice. Even after we checked out, the receptionist gave us a little gift, and even walked us outside to where our car was parked. Such a warm and lovely place. Stay here for sure!

TonleewOur stay at Poetical was truly one of the most memorable experiences of our trip in Japan.
From the peaceful atmosphere surrounded by beautiful nature to the warm hospitality of the owner, everything felt so special and heartfelt. My husband and I were deeply touched by the kindness and care we received throughout our stay.
The homemade meals were absolutely delicious, every dish was prepared with so much love and attention, making us feel completely at home.
Thank you for creating such a beautiful place filled with warmth, comfort, and unforgettable memories.
We already miss Poetical and hope to come back again in winter to see this lovely place covered in snow ❄️

Louisa Siaw WeiConveniently located just a 5-8 minute walk from Matsumoto Station, the hotel is also within easy walking distance to key attractions such as Matsumoto Castle, nearby museums, Nawate Street, and Nakamachi Shopping Street.
The staff are consistently warm, polite, and attentive, which truly enhances the overall stay experience.
A thoughtful touch is the complimentary soba noodles served at 9:30pm — a simple yet memorable highlight not to be missed.
The only minor drawback would be the room size — it is rather compact (as expected in Japan), but well-equipped with all the essentials and thoughtfully laid out for a comfortable stay.

Booked this place near Matsumoto city for my family to have a ryokan experience. It is about 15mins drive from the city and easy to find. There is also a Lawsons across the hotel if you want to get any snacks. But we didn’t need to as there was a welcome tea and snack and more tea and biscuits in the room. We had the family room which fit the 5 of us perfectly. There was the main room which can fit 3 and 2 more in the smaller room. The 2 toilets also made it convenient. Only downside was that we could hear water gushing through the pipes above in the night. We enjoyed the kaiseki dinner and morning breakfast. We were also allowed to reserve a 40min private session on the rooftop onsen. It was relaxing to have a hot soak in the cool night. Overall an enjoyable stay with excellent food and service!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this resort. From the moment I arrived, the staff greeted me with genuine warmth and professionalism, making me feel instantly at home. The property itself is beautifully maintained, with stunning views and thoughtful touches that create a relaxing atmosphere. Every detail—from the comfortable rooms to the delicious dining options—was carefully curated to ensure a memorable experience. I was especially impressed by how impeccably clean everything was, including the public bathrooms and hot spring area. The staff cleaned up immediately after use, which made the whole environment feel fresh and cared for. I truly appreciate the team’s dedication to hospitality and excellence, and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a perfect getaway.
We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary care shown by the hotel assistant Akemi during our stay. When we were unexpectedly stuck in the snow in a remote area, she walked alone to find us and kindly offered assistance to call for tow truck support. She then guided us safely back to the hotel, even though we had already checked out, and welcomed us with tea and biscuits to keep us warm while we waited. Her thoughtfulness and dedication went far beyond duty, and her kindness turned a stressful situation into a touching memory. Thank you sincerely for such genuine hospitality—it is something we will never forget.

Outdoor temperature was around –3°C, but the ryokan felt even colder because some sections were open to the outdoors. The walkway from the rooms to the onsen is uncovered, so there’s no way to avoid the cold. I had to wear my winter jacket just to walk to the public bath.
There is a private bath option, but the one assigned to me was far too hot — I couldn’t even step into the water.
The public bath is a very small indoor pool, probably suitable for 2–3 people at most. There is no shower in the room, so using the public bath is unavoidable.
The room itself was very cold. On top of that, I had to carry my own 25-inch luggage up three floors as there is no lift, so this place is not suitable if you can’t manage your own luggage.
Dinner was disappointing — just soba and a simple soup with pork and some vegetables and mushrooms.

BushuideyueliangI stayed here for three nights. It's a bit of a walk from the train station, but still an acceptable distance. The breakfast selection wasn't huge, but everything tasted good. The front desk staff were very friendly. It's also a short walk to Matsumoto Castle.

Anonymous UserThe service was good and the price was affordable. The heating was excellent; the AC unit got really warm. I appreciated not needing a key card for electricity, as it allowed me to charge devices while out. However, the other facilities were pretty standard, and the decor was outdated. Some areas were even cracked and poorly maintained. Breakfast was free, and the bread was delicious, though it was a shame there was no milk. The rice wasn't good; it was too mushy.
