Booked in for two nights could not sleep because of nesting birds all night long one lift broken.breakfast was not the hottest

Great location, friendly/helpful staff. Fine views from the bar and restaurant. Parking is expensive at £20 per night. Room was clean and decent, but overall it’s a little bit tired, with Wetherspoons-like carpet, worn paintwork, creaky doors etc. It could certainly do with a spruce up. Spa was very good.

The Macdonald Old England Hotel is well situated, being just a stones throw from the lakeside and the shops in Bowness. The staff are friendly and obliging and the service matches their attitude. The breakfasts are fine, although the staff can sometimes be a bit slow in replenishing the tureens. We did not use the Spa, so we cannot comment on that. Overall, we found the hotel to have all the facilities that we were lookling for and we would be happy to stay there again.

The room ceiling is slanted, which is not consistent with the promotional photos. The front desk service attitude is too poor, the breakfast is average, and I will not come again.

The family deluxe room was a loft room, which was also amazing. When negotiating with the front desk, the front desk told me that the family deluxe room type is this type, with a skylight. I asked to change the room, but was told that it was full and there were no rooms. A minute ago, other foreign guests came in to ask about the room and price, and they may not check in because of the price. As for me, this is the only room, the loft skylight room. You can stay there or not, find an agent yourself. Due to the time difference, it was early morning in China, and I couldn't contact Ctrip staff. The next day, Ctrip contacted the hotel, and Ctrip customer service began to ask them and insisted that the family deluxe room was a loft room. The customer service confirmed again and again and finally admitted that there were several types of family deluxe rooms. Because we arrived late, we were given a loft room and there were no other rooms. The attitude towards Chinese guests is clear at a glance. It is strongly recommended that Chinese people stay away from this hotel. I believe that all the bad room types in the hotel are reserved for Chinese people.

The location of the hotel is very good. It is right next to the pier of Lake Windermere. The scenery is even better. There is a lake view outside the window. There are many restaurants and shopping malls. However, the hotel is too old and the service is very average.

A little old, but the room is big. Breakfast is right by the lake. You can walk to the lake and feed the animals. It's very comfortable.
