Taupo Hotels with Bars

We are currently staying at the resort, when booking we were booking we had the choice of 2 rooms (same price) one with bigger beds and one that said it had a private balcony and looked put onto a beautiful garden. We chose the one with a private balcony. Unfortunately the room we got actually looks nothing like the photos on the website. And it definitely does not have a private balcony. I complained the first day and was told all rooms were like that ”not private”, the next morning we went for a walk around the ground and found the beautiful photos that were advertised as the huka twin with beautiful garden Outlook AND PRIVATE balcony. I went back to reception and was told the photos of the huka twin on the website were of the more expensive rooms! We are a young family that have been planning our weekend away for months and actually feel quite ripped off, false advertising on the rooms & also terrible customer service. Hotel is also very run down. Pools were amazing, breakfast could have more options.

Been meaning to stay for years as rest of family have many times. Loved it, BUT....... security needs updating. Maybe they are doing that as toilet security door was missing and so was front access barrier! Had some very suspect people using toilet and shower facilities this morning. Definitely didn't look like guest and didn't have caravan or tent. By the look of the face tattoos looked like and behaved like gang members. Without security gates or doors they will just come in. Also some people had a lot of food- meat stolen from fridge. Sad. :( ALL THAT SAID- it's still a lovely camp. Facilities are clean, and good location next to hot pools and good sites with reasonable privacy on most sites. Would stay again.

Poor experience at this hotel. First room service argued they had cleaned the room when they had clearly not and it took photographic evidence for staff to believe us. Also discovered that their check in staff charged the full price room as a deposit ($304) but only mentioned charging $70 at check in; this is an issue as the room was prepaid. The room itself was comfortable and the pool and gym good. But poor and incompetent treatment by staff would put me off choosing to stay here again.

Beautiful rooms overlooking the lake. Plenty of space and large balcony to sit and enjoy the view. Location was excellent just far enough out of town to be quiet but close enough to walk in along a walkway. Staff were extremely friendly. Room was clean with lovely quality bedding Dinner in the on site restaurant was really good and with a great view of the lake. Breakfast was fairly basic but sufficient and of a good quality. We would definitely stay again when in this area highly recommended

Room is clean, tidy and spacious. Nice to have a balcony but it is by the side of road. A private kitchen or kitchenette is not included but there is a large common kitchen in the 2/F. Like most hotels or motels there, there is nobody in the reception counter from 8:40 pm to 10 am next day. Good to have free undercover on-site parking.

The ease of being able to check in and out without going to reception is a useful feature (we arrived in good time to see the helpful gentleman on reception to check in). We did not use the full facilities of the lounge and kitchen. The room and bathroom were clean. The room was nicely a presented, comfortable bed and functional for what we needed during our stay in Taupo. We ate at Thai delight, a short walk away and had a lovely meal that came promptly and with good service.

Fabulous 👌 will definitely come again! Stayed 5 nights in a one bedroom unit over new year period. Big master with super king bed & huge tv with netflix, sky etc. Great bed and linen. Teenagers slept in lounge, bed each and another huge tv. Mini kitchen had everything you needed if you want to cook. Huge bathroom with great shower and big bath, great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Fantastic location and very quiet rooms. Super clean (keep up the good work cleaners!). Very short walk to shops, restaurants and the lake. Serviced each day which was a real treat. Congrats to Ron (& the team) for running a great motor lodge to high standards. Highly recommend 👍

We had a lovely 2 day stay in Taupo recently, The Gables was amazing. We where greeted with a warm smile and the owner recognized me immediately as I had emailed for our booking. We where taken to our room, heat pump turned on for us and where asked if we need anything. Our room was spacious, clean and very well appointed. We even had a small jar of home baking for us to enjoy. We will definently be staying there again.

We spent three nights at this very comfortable hotel in Taupo in early June. We were visiting our daughter who lives in the town but didn’t have enough room for us to stay. I was after a hotel with a view of the beautiful lake, but still within walking distance to town as we didn’t have a car. Suncourt Hotel fitted the brief perfectly. We booked a Premier Deluxe Lakeview Studio room. The room that we were allotted was on the top floor. There was no lift, so you needed to climb the outdoor steps with luggage. Our room was very large, with a king size bed, a desk, two comfortable chairs and a coffee table. The bathroom was huge with a walk-in shower and a free-standing bath. There was also a very large balcony with a stunning view of the lake and a further two chairs and a small table. The reception staff were very helpful not only with our original reservation, but also when we needed to add a night and with any questions that we had. The only downside to me was that their restaurant was not open on the evening that we checked in, which was Sunday, and also not for breakfast on the Monday morning. We did know this in advance though, and as the town was easily walkable it wasn’t a problem. We had two breakfasts in the restaurant, and they were excellent. As we had other dinner plans, we didn’t have dinner in the restaurant, but our daughter and her partner have eaten there and loved it. If you are looking for a very large hotel room with a view, then Suncourt is for you. I believe they have much larger apartment style rooms which would be more suitable for families, although we didn’t get to see any of these.

This is an older property with large rooms, well maintained and very close to town. Stayed overnight on way back to Auckland. Huge room, was originally a timeshare motel now solely motel. Very helpful receptionists. The key to this motel is it's proximity to the town and eateries etc. ie 3 minute walk to town and also across the road from the lake which is nice for a morning walk. Some motels in Taupo are far from town and you need a car. This is not the case with this one. Got a decent rate on Booking. Would stay here again based on the size of the room and it's central location. Enjoyed a nice dip in the Wairakei Terraces hotpools (age 14 years and over), got a decent discount voucher for entry on the grabone site.
