It’s rare to see a hotel of this size in New Zealand~ It’s a bit like an old five-star~ There is a small outdoor hot spring, but when we went there the temperature was about zero at night and the water temperature was not too hot. It takes courage to start the water~

As a Hilton Honors member, my stay at the hotel met the usual satisfactory quality. Peter at the front desk was excellent in accommodating our needs, and overall, we had a good time. However, I want to caution future guests to adjust their expectations:
• The location, while quiet, is farther from the center and lakeside, requiring a car and likely keeping you at the hotel in the evening.
• Our room, possibly the least expensive, was extremely small with limited space for sitting or even opening our suitcases.
• Staff training or updated information is necessary; the website mentioned a happy hour, but there was none on Friday. Conflicting details about breakfast and check-out times were provided.
• While amenities were nice, the steam room and sauna floor were dangerously slippery, leading to a hard fall and injury. Additionally, the pool water was not clean, with numerous hairs inside.
• Some equipment, like the coffee machine, was not working.

Beautiful rooms overlooking the lake. Plenty of space and large balcony to sit and enjoy the view. Location was excellent just far enough out of town to be quiet but close enough to walk in along a walkway. Staff were extremely friendly. Room was clean with lovely quality bedding Dinner in the on site restaurant was really good and with a great view of the lake. Breakfast was fairly basic but sufficient and of a good quality. We would definitely stay again when in this area highly recommended

Hotel location is good, just on the edge of Lake Taupo, you can see the lake view when you go out, there is a hot spring pool in the room to let you bubble for free, but we did not soak, four people stay, a total of three beds, a large bed 2 small beds, the room can cook, very convenient

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights the day after our wedding. With all the stress of planning a wedding (especially during covid) it was exactly what we needed and more. Peter and Nina looked after us so well and treated us like we were their own. Upon arrival we had a cheese platter with champagne and chocolate waiting for us in our room, canapés before dinner, a 3 course meal, a massive breakfast with plenty of options! A couples massage and a picnic. The food was outstanding and you can be assured that you will not go without! There is not one thing at Chalet Eiger that we would change/think needs improving - we truly think it is perfect. After a crazy wedding this get a way was exactly what we needed, we were able to relax completely here, Great conversations and recommendations of what to do in Taupo and the most beautiful dogs - Bella and Rufus. Thank you so much for having us and looking after us after such a stressful lead up to our wedding, we hope to be back very soon!

Not clean e.g. ant problem, cobwebs, needed to be aired out before guests arrived, red stains on bed, construction materials left lying around on the balcony. 😑 Customer service was not the best e.g. 1) Receptionist (Jen or whatever her name is) needs to either be retrained in customer service skills and manners or to be replaced by someone younger with better multi tasking skills/effective communication. Paid for a 2 day stay for the 3 bedroom apartment and I would say the price wasn’t worth it. Only great thing about the place is the view and that it’s close to the town centre. Not returning and would definitely pick another place to stay further down from this one.

XXiaodingmeifannaoThe boss was very enthusiastic and even helped drive me to the station. The room is warm and clean. It looks much better than in the photos. It has complete facilities and even a kitchen. If I have to say a disadvantage, the sound insulation is not very good and the noise of cars on the road is a bit loud at night.

GGuest UserWe had a lovely 2 day stay in Taupo recently, The Gables was amazing. We where greeted with a warm smile and the owner recognized me immediately as I had emailed for our booking. We where taken to our room, heat pump turned on for us and where asked if we need anything. Our room was spacious, clean and very well appointed. We even had a small jar of home baking for us to enjoy. We will definently be staying there again.

GGuest UserWe rang to book direct as we were coming back from a days skiing with a view to stop in Taupo. The own was incredible and gave us a good price for one night for 3 adults and 3 children. Upon checking in late at around 6 pm the owner offered to dry all our incredibly wet clothing from skiing. He did this with a lovely smile. We were so appreciative. The rooms were lovely and suited us well.

Fabulous 👌 will definitely come again! Stayed 5 nights in a one bedroom unit over new year period. Big master with super king bed & huge tv with netflix, sky etc. Great bed and linen. Teenagers slept in lounge, bed each and another huge tv. Mini kitchen had everything you needed if you want to cook. Huge bathroom with great shower and big bath, great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Fantastic location and very quiet rooms. Super clean (keep up the good work cleaners!). Very short walk to shops, restaurants and the lake. Serviced each day which was a real treat. Congrats to Ron (& the team) for running a great motor lodge to high standards. Highly recommend 👍

AAnonymous UserThe location is excellent. I stayed in this hotel before the epidemic. I stayed in a three-bedroom apartment on the first floor that time. It was very good. This time we only booked a two-bedroom apartment on the second floor. The facilities and equipment are a bit old, but the bedding and towels are all new and high-quality. There are pots, bowls, induction cookers, etc., hot water in the spa bath and other facilities are very convenient. Downstairs There are washing machines and dryers available, please note that they are available from 8am to 8pm. There is also a BBQ for guests to use, and it is very convenient to check in and out. The cleaning staff are very friendly, but the front desk staff are not too enthusiastic. The overall experience is not bad. I will stay here again next time I come to Taupo. Ctrip has an advantage in price👍

GGuest UserThere are some car hotels, right next to Lake Taupo, the scenery does not say, the car stops at the door of the room, very convenient, very suitable for self-driving travel. The rooms are compact but well-equipped, cooking and bathing are not a problem. It is very close to the supermarket and the place to eat, and there are two or three intersections by car. The New Zealand big sister at the front desk was very enthusiastic and stayed with milk.

GGuest UserThe ease of being able to check in and out without going to reception is a useful feature (we arrived in good time to see the helpful gentleman on reception to check in). We did not use the full facilities of the lounge and kitchen. The room and bathroom were clean. The room was nicely a presented, comfortable bed and functional for what we needed during our stay in Taupo. We ate at Thai delight, a short walk away and had a lovely meal that came promptly and with good service.

Like most hotels or motels there, there is nobody in the reception counter from 8:40 pm to 10 am next day. Good to have free undercover on-site parking.

JJinqingThe room is large, the location is great, and parking is free. Just outside the hotel is Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest freshwater lake. The hotel facilities are very new, the beds are big, and the Wi-Fi is very good. The hotel is very close to the city.
