Traveling with my parents and child, it was so hot that even walking for an hour was difficult, haha. Luckily, the city center was only a 5-7 minute taxi ride away. After running an errand, I was so tired that I just did one activity and then came back to the accommodation to rest. This kind of arrangement was great, and the room was spacious, which made it feel very comfortable. I highly recommend it if you're traveling with family!

A small boutique hotel, with truly wonderful and professional staff that offers great service and hospitality that rivals many international 5-stars. From check-in, the staff was extremely helpful, attention to detail, and made sure we felt comfortable. Our 5-night stay was always greeted with smiling staff that were always there to provide everything we need. A simple question about the water puppet show at the front desk, and the staff even helped make a call to reserve tickets for us. At breakfast, the staff remembered our group, and even our preferred drinks. At check-out, the general manager greeted us personally to ask for our comments and even prepared a small gift for us. It is one of the best hotel experience I have had. Kudos to the team!

Hotel is clean and beds are comfortable. However, the air conditioner temperature in the room is hard to navigate and it felt warm in the middle of the night. The rooftop bar is supposed to be opened till 11pm (according to the info provided on the key card). However, it was already locked when we visited it at 9.30pm. Otherwise, everything else was good. Service was exceptional, would like to compliment Mr Lo Dai (senior chef at the pho and egg station) for his attentiveness and patience towards guests. Will definitely recommend this hotel.

The good memories from my stay in July 2025 brought me back here again. This trip once again proved that my choice was not wrong. Thanks to the Club Room benefits, I enjoyed early check-in and late check-out, a satisfying breakfast, and access to the Club Lounge. It was a truly fulfilling time for rest and rejuvenation, which was the original purpose of my trip. Although there's an additional charge for the Club Room, the time I spent there made it completely worthwhile. While at the Club Lounge, I asked the staff about places to explore and visit. I was so grateful that the staff members went above and beyond, searching the internet and even calling places directly to confirm and provide me with information. I especially want to thank Sophia, one of the hotel staff members, who was incredibly accommodating and kind until the very last moment, even though I made numerous requests for my late flight on the day of departure.

Overall, the hotel felt quite old. While the room was clean, the Vietnamese humidity unfortunately left a faint, unavoidable musty smell. The facilities in the room, especially the bathroom fixtures like the faucet, toilet, and shower, were a bit dated and indeed felt a bit worn out and less than fully functional. 😂 However, breakfast did not disappoint. The staff were very welcoming and attentive, showing us to our seats. The variety of food was abundant, and the quality was consistently good.

I think this hotel is one of the best choices for its location in the Old Quarter. Just a few steps away is St. Joseph's Cathedral, and right next door are famous eateries like Banh Mi Mama, Pho Thin, Pizza 4P's, and Bun Cha Dac Kim. There's also a 7-Eleven convenience store and Cong Cafe right in front. Hoan Kiem Lake is less than a 5-minute walk from the hotel. If I only considered the location, I'd want to choose this place again. However, even with a great location, the hotel's condition, and the staff's kindness and professionalism are also very important, right? While I haven't stayed at many hotels, the friendliness of the staff at Anatole Hotel was definitely the best. From the moment I got out of the Grab car upon arrival, the doormen practically ran out to help with my luggage. Then, during check-in, Clara greeted me with a welcome tea and snacks, smiling warmly! Since my English isn't great, she explained things slowly and clearly, even mixing in some Korean. She also proactively asked about my schedule and flight time after check-out, which touched me from day one! The room's condition immediately felt cozy when I entered, and even though the window was blocked, it didn't feel stuffy at all. The bedding was clean, the bathroom was spotless, and the hot water ran perfectly. What I also loved was the breakfast for all three days. The variety of food was just right – not too much, not too little. The pho was so delicious (you must try both the chicken and beef pho!) that I didn't even feel like buying pho outside. There were also dishes that suited Korean palates, and even after eating my fill, I still found room for the dessert breads, cakes, and sweet fruits... And the delicious Americano, with its excellent coffee taste, was so typically Vietnamese... I was truly satisfied. After check-out, I accidentally left my room key in the room, but they reassured me it was fine and held my luggage until 4 PM, allowing me to enjoy another cup of coffee and a relaxing massage before leaving. And I will cherish the magnet Clara gave me as a farewell gift. Thank you also to the doormen who helped with my luggage and transported it to the Grab car. I will remember Hanoi Anatole Hotel for a long time and hope to see you again. Thank you.

We travel with our second child—one is 13, the other is 6. Usually, the younger one shares the king bed, and we get an extra bed for the older one. But that didn't work at this hotel: first, the rooms are too small to easily add an extra bed, and second, they charge even for children who don't need an extra bed, so we might as well just book a second room. As a result, our expenses were much higher than at typical hotels. Plus, with all the glowing reviews online, our expectations were probably very high, so we ultimately felt quite disappointed. The service wasn't necessarily bad, but compared to the Ha Long Bay pioneer cruise we stayed on the day before—where the staff even peeled shrimp for us and smiled constantly—the staff here seemed a bit cold. Compared to the Sheraton from a few days prior, where communication was fast and efficient, the staff here couldn't get straight to the point. (Checking in while seated at a table does project a sense of luxury, but they didn't mention where breakfast was or what time it started and ended; it felt like putting on a facade of good service without actual efficiency.) It's true we might be nitpicking, but this is a famous, highly-rated hotel in Hanoi after all. The moment we stepped into room 171, there was a strong, damp musty smell. The window could open, but without a screen, bugs would get in, so after opening it briefly and letting flies in, we didn't dare ventilate the room anymore. The second room we tried, 168, had been freshly cleaned; at first, it smelled nice thanks to air freshener (we thought we had misjudged the hotel and that maybe room 171 just hadn't been lived in for a while). However, when we came back after dinner, it had the exact same damp, musty smell, showing it's a systemic issue. Room 171 was a connecting room (the door was hidden behind a mirror, very hard to spot). We were initially worried about soundproofing, but the front desk said we could change rooms if it was noisy. Since we had already unpacked, we decided to let it be. As it turned out, the neighbors didn't disturb us, but housekeeping the next morning did. It was my first time actually hearing the neighboring room open a toilet lid, organize their wardrobe, not to mention the vacuum cleaner (I recorded a video right from bed after being woken up by it). Room 168, however, had no noise issues, and since it was around 8:30 AM, it wasn't overly unreasonable, so we just let it go. The historical tour was fantastic, and the poolside area was very relaxing. The staff showed great finesse: seeing you lying down, they would first bring over some complimentary lemonade and fruit before asking for your room number and name. It felt thoughtful while also effectively keeping out non-guests, which was a great touch. The glasshouse breakfast venue is stunningly, breathtakingly gorgeous. The breakfast wasn't bad, but it didn't feel as extensive as the Sheraton's, and the space felt a bit cramped. Leaving the serving tongs directly resting on the food is actually a minor hygiene concern; places like Sheraton keep them in a separate holder, which is both cleaner and saves space. I might be nitpicking again, but this is a famous, highly-rated hotel after all. Sigh. When I was lounging by the pool, I felt so comfortable and marveled at how many things the hotel did right, but that damp, musty odor is truly a major flaw for Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi.

This time for my Hanoi trip, I stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel. Its location in Ba Dinh District, part of the Old Quarter, is quite convenient for visiting attractions like Ba Dinh Square and the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. The hotel faces West Lake and Tran Quoc Pagoda, offering beautiful views – provided you're on the lake-facing side of the hotel. The room size was decent, though the overall facilities felt a bit dated, and the hallways had a musty smell. The bathroom was very clean, and the toiletries had a lovely, refreshing citrus scent that I really enjoyed and found effective. There's a bar on the rooftop, and it was truly pleasant to enjoy a drink, feel the breeze, and overlook West Lake at night. The hotel breakfast was quite comprehensive, featuring local specialties like beef pho and chicken pho, both of which tasted good. The staff provided excellent service, and overall, the hotel offers good value for money.

We had a very solid and comfortable stay at the San Premium Hotel, which is perfectly situated right in the heart of the Old Quarter. The location is incredibly convenient, with everything you could possibly need located just a short walk away. The absolute highlight of our experience, however, was the impeccable service. The staff is extraordinarily courteous, welcoming, and proactive. Their English proficiency is excellent, which made communication seamless. When I approached them with several non-standard requests, they handled them with high-level professionalism and genuine politeness, and they were always quick to assist with our luggage. The accommodation itself was highly satisfying. We stayed in a spacious room that featured a wonderfully large terrace. The bathroom was well-appointed and in great condition. Most importantly, the level of cleanliness throughout the room was flawless. The bed and pillows provided a very comfortable night's sleep, and I specifically appreciated the use of proper fitted sheets - a crucial detail for comfort that many hotels surprisingly overlook. It is exactly this kind of attention to basic hospitality standards that makes a property reliable. The only notable area for improvement is the breakfast. The morning buffet was quite monotonous and the food lacked flavor, so I cannot say I was impressed by it. However, if you are only staying for a couple of days, it is completely tolerable, especially considering the abundance of excellent dining options right outside the hotel doors. Overall, the exceptional staff, meticulous room cleanliness, and prime location easily make up for the mediocre breakfast. This is a highly reliable hotel that delivers on the most important aspects of hospitality.

I rarely give hotels low ratings. As an IHG member, my previous experiences at InterContinental hotels in China and the US have always been good. However, this stay at the InterContinental Hanoi Westlake was truly disappointing. We were traveling with a child, and I understand that staff can be busy during peak season. So, while checking in, the process felt rushed, and there was no information or confirmation provided about the hotel facilities or breakfast restaurant. But the most unacceptable part was that the room phone rang twice, once at midnight and again in the early morning, and each time, no one was on the line when I answered. I reported this to the front desk the next day, and while they sent an engineer to check it, the phone still rang during sleeping hours on the third day! It was absolutely infuriating. I haven't had a vacation in a long time and was hoping to relax for two days at the InterContinental Westlake, but I was woken up both times. My child was startled awake and crying in the middle of the night, and the phone ringing at that hour was incredibly unsettling and creepy. I'm so disappointed.

The hotel is perfectly located on the edge of Hanoi’s Old Quarter and very close to Train Street. From our room, we had a fantastic view of the railway and could watch the trains passing by from above, as well as all the excitement among the people waiting for them. Many of Hanoi’s main sights are within walking distance, and for everything else, it is very easy to take a taxi. The breakfast buffet is extensive, varied and leaves nothing to be desired. Enjoying breakfast with the beautiful panoramic view over Hanoi was a wonderful way to start the day. The Vietnamese coffee is also available to take away, which we really appreciated. The entire team was incredibly friendly, helpful and solution-oriented, no matter whether we had a small question or needed help with something more complicated. They are exceptionally attentive and often seem to know what their guests need before they even have to ask. The only minor downside is that the rooms are slightly noisy towards the hallway, especially when people are walking past or talking outside. However, this is really just a small detail and certainly complaining at a very high level. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.

I'd say you get what you pay for but nobody should have to endure that after travelling halfway across the world. The hostel needs to operate a ”Quiet Hours Policy” like most places do now. (It was 2 separate rooms but we shared one corridor that we could lock) What made the trip even better was the service. We were warmly welcomed in with some drinks and snacks, borrowed umbrellas, all our requests were met. The food was yummmmyy! Could choose from the buffet spread and the pho/eggs that was made upon order. Besides that, breakfast was made and packed for us when we had to leave early in the morning and couldn’t dine in. That was so sweet of them to do! The location is also very good as it was near A LOT of michelin restaurants! Will stay again!!

This was my first time in Hanoi and my first time staying in such a gilded, 'golden everywhere' hotel – it was really unique and wonderful. The service, atmosphere, and breakfast were all excellent too. My only minor point is that I'm used to the seamless check-in process back home, and here it seemed a bit slower. There was a lot of swiping cards, signing, and waiting, and check-out was the same – a little slow.

Extremely satisfied with this trip! The front desk staff were incredibly friendly. The environment was fantastic, and they even invited us to rest at the front desk and offered us water, then turned on the air conditioning to cool down our room beforehand. This level of detail is something I've never experienced in any other hotel. After checking out, the hotel even allowed us to take a complimentary shower before heading to the train station for Da Nang. I highly recommend this hotel! We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights (from August 3 to 6). We really liked the hotel! Many thanks to the hotel staff! Especially to the young people who worked at the reception. We arrived on the first day at 12 at night and spontaneously decided to go on an excursion to Halong Bay. They helped us book everything. When we left, they loaded all the suitcases into the car. And the young man in a white shirt from the reception always smiled and answered questions. We liked the breakfasts. There is a choice of dishes, everything was delicious. The waitresses smiled. The room was clean. The room was the same as in the photo. I also liked the location in the old city. We reached Lake Hakiem in about 12 minutes. On the excursion, they picked us up right from the hotel. And when we walked to the hotel, you could feel the flavor of the old city. Many thanks to the hotel staff for their hospitality! P.S. I forgot to take a photo of the hotel, they gave up. The photo shows the building opposite the hotel.

We chose this residence over a hotel for our wedding anniversary family trip, thinking it would be more comfortable, and it turned out to be a great choice. On our first day, we were tired, so it was nice to be able to simply cook dinner at the accommodation and then relax right away. What was really disappointing was not getting a high floor or a lake view, which we had hoped for – perhaps because it was peak season. We ended up on the second floor, and it was quite a shock to be able to clearly see the vivid everyday life of our neighbors through the balcony window in the evenings. We had to keep the curtains closed for the entire duration of our stay. Aside from this, it was a satisfactory stay. Our flight back was at midnight, and we wanted to add a half-day stay, but unfortunately, it was fully booked. However, the hotel was very accommodating: they allowed us to store our luggage at the counter, visit nearby restaurants, and use the pool in the afternoon. This was a huge advantage, as we could swim with the kids and shower before heading straight to the airport. I've been to Hanoi many times, but this was my first time staying in the West Lake area. I really liked the more relaxed atmosphere of this neighborhood compared to other areas. It was great to rent a bicycle from the accommodation, go for a manicure, get a massage nearby, and take a stroll around West Lake. The staff were all incredibly friendly, which I appreciated. Of course, the alley leading to the residence was narrow, and the surrounding area was under constant construction, making entry and exit a bit challenging. However, since we mainly used Grab, it wasn't a major issue. The breakfast was simple and light, and daily cleaning and towel changes made our stay comfortable. The bedding was excellent, and I slept very well. The indoor pool was spacious and not crowded, allowing us to enjoy it leisurely. The water didn't have a strong chemical smell, but it was slightly salty, which was a bit surprising at first but easy to get used to.

The location is great—just a 5-minute walk to Hoan Kiem Lake, and very close to the famous egg coffee spot and several other restaurants. The facilities are generally complete. Breakfast is served at the 11th-floor restaurant, featuring an à la carte menu with pho and eggs; while the selection isn't huge, the food tastes very good. There is also a rooftop sky bar—I had a drink there one evening, mainly for the fantastic view. Additionally, the spa therapists are well-trained, prices are standard, and the service is great. Overall, it's a hotel with a fantastic location, excellent service, and decent facilities—perfect for those who enjoy exploring the Old Quarter. Just a heads-up: it gets quite crowded on weekends with some local traffic restrictions, so cars may need to drop off or park about a block away.

I stayed at Golden Silk for 5 nights. 2 booked thru trip and 3 that I extended directly. The location is hard to beat. Bang in the center of old quarter steps away from Hoan Kiem Lake. The rooms are pretty tired as other people have noted. An upgrade may help but is not a deal breaker. Housekeeping is great. The pricing is a bit higher online but you can book directly and get a better price. The breakfast is okay, nothing great but whatever is available is pretty good. Restaurant staff is really great. The front staff is a mix with a few ones condescending to borderline rude. Not sure if that's consistent for all travelers or reserved for certain set of travelers. For USD 60 a night i think its a good choice considering the location.

Initially as we checked in to Diamond Westlake suites our first impression was that it was more a 3 star than a 4 star. The apartment and provisions are very basic. The apartment is a bit old and feels a bit tired. However, the space is good, and the pool very nice. The breakfast was fine with enough variety for different tastes. We also ate in the restaurant on our first night. It was a bit quiet so we were a little nervous but the food was absolutely delicious. A great introduction to vietnamese food. There is also a small shop immediately below the lobby area which is very convenient. We didn't have much interaction from staff, so hard to judge the service but I guess we didn't notice a particularly welcoming effort. Despite this we enjoyed our stay. It was convenient to travel to Hanoi, about 15minutes in the taxi, also a short walk away there are shops and restaurants. Overall everything is fine, a convenient place to stay for families and if you want to stay in a quieter area away from Hanoi. No major problems, but not really a 4 star quality feel. More attention to detail in cleanliness and service would make a huge difference.

Appreciation for Excellent Service at Intercontinental Hanoi Landmark72 I wanted to express my gratitude for the exceptional service my family and I received during our six-day stay at the Intercontinental Hanoi Landmark72. My daughter was participating in a math competition, and we found the environment at the Lounge on the 71st floor to be peaceful and comfortable for her to study during the first two days. For the remaining four days, we spent a lot of time at the Lounge and the 3spoons Restaurant on the 62nd floor, as my daughter preferred the hotel's food. I was amazed by the attentiveness and politeness of the staff, who took the time to introduce us to the restaurant's ambiance and cuisine. One particular incident stood out to me when my daughter's favorite sushi was out of stock. The restaurant staff promptly prepared it for us and delivered it to our table, showing their dedication to serving every guest with care. This hotel is highly recommended if you're looking for a spacious place for family or friends. The price, including breakfast, was very reasonable. I loved the views and the amenities. It's great that they have a swimming pool, gym, and kids' room, and everything is clean and well-maintained. In particular, the staff's kindness made me smile throughout my 4-day stay. They responded quickly and accurately to even minor requests. When they spoke to me, making eye contact, it felt like they respected and cherished their guests, which made me feel secure and comfortable whenever I walked through the lobby. While the breakfast menu was mostly similar, there were slight variations each morning, and the food was fresh and delicious, never feeling lacking. Although the dining area seemed small, perhaps because there weren't many guests, I enjoyed a pleasant start to my day in a clean and cozy space for all four days. If I visit Hanoi again, not alone but with colleagues or family, I would definitely want to stay here again and would highly recommend it to others. Its location is a bit far from Hoan Kiem Lake, but it's great that there's a Starbucks inside the building and a good selection of restaurants, supermarkets, and massage shops nearby.

A good hotel, not the newest, but tidy. We booked a room without a window, but they upgraded us to one with a huge window for free, which was a pleasant surprise. The staff was exceptionally friendly. The only drawback, common in many Vietnamese hotels, was the air conditioning unit being directly above the bed. Luckily, the room we were given was large enough that we could move the bed ourselves to avoid feeling the draft at night. The breakfasts were good, with a more Western-style cuisine. The pool, as seen in the photos, is small but nice, and in Hanoi's Old Quarter, you'll be glad to have even that. Directly opposite the hotel, there's a laundry service and a couple of travel agencies with very favorable currency exchange rates. One thing for travelers choosing the Old Quarter as their base to consider: from Friday evening and throughout the weekend, some central areas are either closed off or have restricted traffic, and (in our case) on Saturday, it can be difficult to get a taxi.

The only disappointment in the stay was we were told that they need to charge us additional 3% if we make the payment using credit card. The public facilities are well-maintained and clean, the air conditioning is sufficiently cool, and the bedding is spotless. It's quiet at night, ensuring a good sleep. This is a practical and excellent hotel that makes you want to 'stay put and not switch to another place'.

Huge 2-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, even a washing machine. The furniture is dated, and the plumbing is in poor condition: the shower head isn't fixed properly, and the short sink faucets have excessive water pressure. Oddly, there were no slippers in the room, and only two bathrobes, which isn't enough for a 4-person room. For two days, housekeeping didn't notice a dying cockroach 🙃. The staff is responsive.

Hồ Hoàn Kiếm Area Hanoi|0.92km from city center
Overall the experience surpassed expectations. For the price point the room was large, bed was comfortable and although the location was a bit outside of the desired tourist areas of the old town and French quarter, it was still quite close by either by grab or walking. I would willingly stay here again without hesitation.

Tips for Travelling From Hanoi to Sapa

Hanoi to Sapa Travel

Make your journey from Hanoi to Sapa smoother by doing the following:

1. Time your journey

Most overnight buses arrive in Sapa early morning. By then, hotels aren’t ready for check-in until 2 pm or 3 pm. Either book a bus that departs later or choose the overnight train instead. Trains arrive in Lao Cai around 6 pm and you’ll have to transfer for another 1-1.5 hour to Sapa Town. Head to your hotel to drop your bags and enjoy breakfast before exploring. If you prefer to see the landscape along the way, book a private car, taxi or limousine van that departs in the morning.

Autumn (September to October) and summer (July to August) are peak travel seasons, so expect travel times to be longer due to traffic conditions. It may be slightly better on overnight trains. But seats and hotels fill up fast so book months in advance. Transport with limited availability may be sold up around this time.

2. Be ready for motion sickness

The roads from Hanoi to Lao Cai is smooth. However, the final stretch from Lao Cai to Sapa Town is a steep, winding mountain road. The trains can also be shaky. If you’re prone to motion sickness, take medication at least 30 minutes before the mountain ascent. Choose a seat close to the front and avoid using your phone.

3. Pack smart

For a seamless journey, it’s best to travel light. Trains and buses have limited spaces. The fewer bags you have, the more space you can accompany for a comfortable sleep.

Be prepared for the temperature changes. Bring a lightweight and waterproof jacket in your carry-on bag so you can put it on as soon as you arrive.

You’re also required to take off your shoes when boarding the bus. The driver will hand you a plastic bag to put your shoes in. It’s best to wear comfortable, easy to slip on and off footwear. Bring a clean pair of socks to keep warm.

4. Arrive early

Allow some time to find the right bus stop or navigate the Hanoi Railway Station. Trains to Lao Cai almost always departs from Station A. At times, you also need some time to exchange vouchers if you booked a package. Head to the specific operator’s check-in desk to receive physical boarding passes. Make sure to check if the transport you’re taking allows only e-tickets or QR codes or if you need paper ticket exchange. Rule of thumb is to arrive 60-45 minutes before your scheduled departure.

5. Weather conditions

Expect a change in weather between Hanoi and Sapa. Hanoi is hot and humid while Sapa can be cold, misty and even rainy, especially in the evening. Pack accordingly, with different weather conditions in mind. Avoid traveling during monsoon season if possible as it can affect your travel.

6. Confirm pick-up and drop-off points

If you’re taking the bus or private transfer, make sure to double-check your pick-up and drop-off points. While private transfers can pick you up at your hotel or airport and drop you straight to your accommodation in Sapa, buses usually have specific stops where you can get on and off.
