As Fort Worth “grows up,” the city faces two different types of growth and development challenges: 1. how to manage “infill” development in a way that strengthens neighborhoods and business districts; and, 2. how to “build better suburbs” so they are an asset to the city and not a financial drain. This Design Talk will feature Bill Fulton, FAICP, author of the recent book, Place and Prosperity: How Cities Help Us to Connect and Innovate. Bill brings to the conversation decades of experience and in 2009 was named one of Planetizen’s Top 100 Urban Thinkers. He will discuss how cities, as they grow bigger, can use comprehensive planning and placemaking to strengthen communities and economic success and ensure that the built environment provides the city’s people with both a high quality of life and a favorable economic return. About the Author William Fulton is one of America’s most established thought leaders in the field of urban planning. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor to PFM Management and Budget Consulting and a Fellow at the Terner Center for Housing Innovation at UC Berkeley. From 2014 to 2022, he served as the director of Rice University's Kinder Institute for Urban Research. He is a former Mayor of Ventura, California, and Director of Planning and Economic Development for the city of San Diego.
