Latest Events in Kiryu(March Updated)

Every year around mid-November, the more than 100 maple trees in the temple grounds turn red and reach their peak. You can also see the red leaves of Mt. Narukami, which is also one of the 100 famous mountains in the Kanto region, from the precincts of Hotoku-ji Temple. Please enjoy the world of "Red Leaves Pure Land" in red and yellow along with the surrounding mountains. This is one of the few "floor maple" autumn leaves reflections in Japan.

Get off the train at Takaku Station in Kiryu in early August and you'll find a summer festival taking place from Suenohiromachi-dori to Honmachi-dori. There are events such as rolling a giant pill-shaped marble along the streets, a mikoshi procession, and a textile market. In the evening, the finals of the All Japan Yagi Festival competition are held, with performances by past winners and a Yagi Festival singing show. The city is decorated with towers and people revel in the Yagi Festival dance until late at night.

The Kiryu City Fireworks Festival will be held in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture. The venue is Koume-Kotodaira Park along the Watarase River, with approximately 3,000 fireworks scheduled to be launched starting at around 8 p.m. The fireworks festival is entirely sponsored by the private sector and supported by local businesses and individuals, with various events taking place throughout the day and night. The festival begins at 2 p.m., with street performances and approximately 100 food and beverage stalls to welcome visitors. In 2025, a sky lantern display will be added to further enhance the magical atmosphere of the night. The fireworks festival will be launched by the Tajima Fireworks Factory of Sunaga Fireworks Co., Ltd. in Tochigi Prefecture, which boasts pyrotechnic technology dating back to the Meiji era.
