Want to enjoy hydrangeas in nature without leaving Tokyo for a weekend getaway? Then head to Wonderful Nature Village next to Tokyo Summerland for the Hydrangea Festival! The festival runs from June 6th to July 5th. Here, you'll see a sea of ​​white hydrangeas blooming on the hillside. In this area of ​​the vast park alone, there are over 15,000 hydrangeas, expected to reach peak bloom in late June. In addition to the white hydrangeas, the park also features beautiful blue hydrangeas native to Japan—the Black Princess Hydrangea and the Ochre Hydrangea. These varieties are expected to bloom in mid-to-late June.

In early summer, Tokyo will host a spectacular floral extravaganza—the "2026 Akikawa Valley Hydrangea Festival." This mountain was planted by Chuichi Minamizawa as a memorial to his parents. He vowed to "fill" their graves with hydrangeas. For 50 years, he persisted in planting them, hoping to see the happy smiles on people's faces. Today, the mountain boasts over 15,000 hydrangeas, including more than 50 varieties, some rare species found only in a few parts of Japan. Surrounded by towering trees, the vibrant blue, purple, and white hydrangeas bloom in profusion from June onwards, creating a dreamlike and enchanting scene.

The Akigawa Fireworks Festival takes place at Tokyo Summerland's second parking lot. This is one of Tokyo's largest autumn fireworks displays, with approximately 5,000 fireworks set to soar into the sky. Popular children's songs and nostalgic songs will be played throughout the festival, creating a vibrant performance that intertwines with the music. Starting in the afternoon, local dance troupes and folk art groups will perform, allowing you to experience the charm of the Akigawa River.
