Koh Phangan Villas

The Vannee is a 3.5 star hotel but we can’t do half stars here. The hotel lacks details on most ends but overall a decent place to stay. The breakfast was not good for the 2 days of our stay. The true standout aspect of this hotel is the massive pool that expands the length of the grounds. There is a swimup pool bar.

Overall the hotel was nice but in several point not what we expected: We booked a „villa with sea view“. There was no sea view at the villa that was assigned to us. You couldn’t see the sea neither from within the villa nor from the pool nor from the sun beds nor from the outside bath tub. The only way to see a glimpse of the sea was to stand up on a certain spot on the terrace. That’s not what we expected from a room advertised as „with sea view“ and the (trip.com) booking page also suggested otherwise. When we complained, we got assigned another villa where we could see the sea partly. Thank you for that. However, the manager told us that the photos from the booking page were in fact another villa. But it's not my responsibility to make sure that the photos and pictures provided on booking pages are correct. The hotel has to take care of that! This holds also true for the next issue: The gym was closed due to renovation. In the booking process, they advertised a huge fitness center with lots of machines. Now it’s shut down and we did not get any information about this. The „mini gym“, which does not even have at least one multi exercise machine, is nothing but a bad joke and no replacement at all for a proper gym! Again the staff told us they would inform about this on their website. When I checked that, I still found the photos of the large gym on their own website. It was just called ”mini gym”. But how am I supposed to know what they mean by that and that the provided photos are no longer correct??

There are not many varieties of breakfast, but the quality is good. Hotel service is very good. Suitable for people who like quiet people, Koh Phangan is really quiet, and there are very few people in China. Anantara always pays attention to eating, must go to the restaurant on the second floor of the hall, their home ingredients are really very good, and the price is reasonable. It is worth living. Alternatively, the hotel has free kayaking to play. Oh, yes, it may be that the ecological environment in Koh Phangan is so good that there are often lizards.

The house gave me a very good impression. It felt cool when I entered the first day. The space on the first floor was open, and the glass in front of it was glass, revealing the clear pool and the sea in the distance. My family and I have a pleasant experience here. The location of the house is not too good, there is no shop nearby, but we rented a motorcycle when we went out. It is convenient to have a car. So this is not enough. We also book breakfast on the morning of the last day. A few aunts came over and made a table in half an hour. We will choose the next time there is a chance.

The hotel is located a little far from civilization. You need to be prepared for this. The nearest 7 eleven is a 20 minute walk. This was not a problem for us. We stayed for 2 days and spent them entirely at the hotel. I didn't want to go out anywhere. At first glance, everything seems a little outdated, but the area has such a cool, relaxing atmosphere that after 5 minutes you forget about it. We lived in a wonderful Villa with a pool and sunset views right from the balcony. Breakfast and dinner were included. The food was divine. The staff is very attentive. Everyone knows what villa you live in, what kind of coffee you like, etc. It was very surprising. The hotel has a beautiful beach - although in the afternoon, because... in the first half, due to the tide, the beach goes under water. But in the afternoon it opens and it’s very cool to walk there. The places are very picturesque.

Hired a truck/taxi from the pier to take us to the hotel but he drove like a complete psycho and then dropped us off at the resort before. Not a huge deal but we didn't notice until he'd gone and had to walk around, dragging our huge luggage around trying to find the correct resort. Would recommend organizing the hotel shuttle if possible. Front desk staff were always friendly to us, as well as the golf cart driver who drove us and our luggage to our unit and showed us around the room and how to use everything. Room was nice, clean and quiet except when the maintenance crew sat on our front deck area chatting at 7:45am one morning :) Pool was big, cool and clean. Only recommendation is more attention being paid to random people from nearby resorts and hostels taking up the lounge chairs around it when they aren't even staying there. Restaurant staff were attentive and friendly and the food was good. The way some of the guests treated the staff was shocking. They couldn't have been more demanding and rude which the poor staff didn't deserve. Best viewpoint restaurant/bar we only found the day before we left unfortunately but it had the most AMAZING views. Was the 420 Bar/360 Viewpoint that is accessed at the end of the road, near the main road. It's a bit far out of any busy area so you're limited to the on-site restaurant or the few that are a short walk away. We liked the Big O the best out of all of them. There is also a family run mart that seemed to have the best prices for things and we used the most. It was the one with the counter top made up of tons of different currencies. He was missing CAD so we gave him a $5 bill and a $1 Loonie. Hopefully he got them added to his collection.

Really nice hotel, we had 3 Superior rooms that overlooked the larger pool and with a view of the bay. They are very nicely styled and comfortable, with good beds and pillows, and aircon. They were very clean and with a nice big balcony. I think that standard rooms are perhaps in an older part of the hotel and overlook another pool, and are a little far from the main facilities. 1 issue with these room styles is the glass half height door on the toilet - meaning a distinct lack of privacy. The buffet breakfast was generally good, but go early to beat the rush, on one of our days we were late to breakfast and it was very busy with some things running out. Service in the rstaurant in the evening was hit and miss, but we found this was the case all over ths island. On one occasion we waited 1h20 minutes between ordering and receiving the last dish ordered, and 40 minutes between the first and last. Yet the restaurant was very quiet. Food quality was good and prices were correct. The pool was nice, very big and clean and the beach nearby is beautiful. There aren't enough sun loungers though, but if you go to the older pool then there is always space. Some reviews on hotel websites say that it is a little isolated. Not sure I'd totally agree, it is in a quieter area but there are plenty of restaurants and shops around within walking difference. The quietness of the area more than compensates for the isolation. You can easily rent a scooter for 200 baht a day or a car. However taking the hotel transport or other taxis is expensive in comparison, and also charged per person not per vehicle. TIP: snorkelling off the beach is great, but to get to the snorkelling area near the hotel is difficult, it's rocky and there are sharp rocks that cut and graze. The secret that we were told is to look on Google maps on satellite view. You can see a clear route through the rocks/reef at one point about 200 metres or so up the beach away from the resort. However shoes are still necessary. After that, the snorkelling was excellent in the morning when the sea was calm. Also go to the beach at sunset, it was lovely. Best restaurant we found was Wan Yam Kam just opposite the hotel entrance (it might have another name now - but that's the name on google maps). Service in other restaurants was hit and miss as described above. Expect to pay around 120-140 baht for a simple Thai dish, around 160-200 for non Thai, around 140-160 for a cocktail, 25 to 30 baht for a soda and 60-70 for a beer. We visited the waterfalls near the hotel - bizarre place and wrong season as no water! Our chidren did a PADI diving course with SailRock Divers school nearby, can recommend. Very good communication and teaching. My issue with Agoda (a rookie mistake as I usually use ***********) is that they are not transparent with pricing and payment. The location is not bad, on a hill from the main road, 10-15 minutes walk. But the hotel is neglected, there is an ad for rent or for sale, so it is not looked after very well, the room was poorly cleaned before check-in, cotton swabs and shampoo residue from previous tenants, dust on the shelves and in the closet. I specifically booked a room with a jacuzzi, but I could not use it, dirt, small insects and cold water. In general, I do not recommend this option.

This place has maybe had a facelift recently as the new block of accommodation is really lovely and great value. We stayed in the fan only room which were gone for us and a bargain at 700 Bt per night. The A/C rooms in the next block were more luxurious and had a fridge and TV and were also good value for the area. The pool is great - one of the biggest and best on the beach. There's no restaurant but this really didn't bother us as there's so many places to choose from ( our favourites being the 2C bar up the steep hill with views over the bay and the food court in the village which serves great value, super fresh food with decent portions all served with a smile). Many reviews complaining about the unfriendly staff and issues with extra charges - maybe this was a thing of the past because we had no issues at all. The rooms were cleaned every day and the place was kept really nicely. Highly recommended.

The hotel is located next to the sea. Very nice beach. The hotel area has a lot of greenery in the shade of which there is a swimming pool with cool water, which was very pleasing in such hot weather. The hotel has friendly staff, a good cafe with delicious food. We really liked this place, we will definitely come back here again.
