Food Guide

Phuket is famous for its delicious food. The most popular dish is Tom Yam Kung, which is a hot, spicy, and a little sour soup. Another favorite is the crispy salt and pepper shrimp that’s also a bit spicy. These dishes show the island’s love for strong flavors and can be found everywhere, from small food carts to fancy restaurants.

Tom Yum Goong, Thailand's national dish, is celebrated for its hot, spicy, and sour profile, featuring jumbo shrimp and a medley of aromatic ingredients like lemongrass, galangal, and lime leaves. Tom Yum Goong is more than just a dish for visitors; it’s a true part of Thai culture, commonly enjoyed with rice and available in a variety of venues across the island. While there are variations such as Tom Yum Talay and Tom Yam Gai, the classic Tom Yum Goong, especially the Mae Nam version with river prawns, is considered the quintessential experience.

Salt and pepper shrimp is another beloved dish in Thailand, particularly enjoyed for its crispy texture and spicy kick. This delicacy is prepared by frying fresh shrimp to a golden brown and tossing them in a mix of salt, black pepper, and occasionally additional spices like garlic or chili flakes. While available in various locales, notable spots include Krabi Town Night Market for its fresh, high-quality shrimp and Tha Kha Floating Market for the traditional open flame cooking method on floating boats.

Transportation

Phuket International Airport (HKT): As a key hub in Thailand's tourism industry, this airport is located about 32 kilometers from Phuket Town. It hosts numerous airlines and handles a large number of passengers annually. Choose from taxis, buses, or rental cars to reach your destination. Airport and smart buses offer convenient routes to popular areas like Patong Beach, while shared vans provide direct service to your hotel.

Phuket Bus Terminal 2: Situated in Phuket Town, this main bus station connects you to intercity destinations like Bangkok and beyond. From here, you can catch a songthaew, tuk-tuk, minibus, or taxi to explore the city and start your Phuket journey.

Phuket Smart Bus: Glide from Phuket International Airport to stunning beaches like Patong and Kata for just 100 baht. With a Rabbit Card, fares range from 50 to 170 baht based on distance. Plus, kids under 7 travel free.

Tuk-Tuks: These aren't your typical tuk-tuks; in Phuket, they're small trucks that zip around tourist hotspots. Always haggle for the best fare. While they might be a bit pricier, they offer flexibility and a taste of local life.

Ride-Hailing Apps: Grab is your go-to for convenient rides, offering everything from motorbikes to cars and vans. See prices upfront and enjoy the ease of online payment, making your travels smooth and stress-free.

Where to Stay

Stay options on the island offer unique experiences in different zones.

The heartbeat of Phuket's entertainment scene, Patong Beach is alive with energy and endless activities. Famous for its beautiful sands and vibrant nightlife, it's a magnet for thrill-seekers. By day, enjoy sunbathing, water sports, and beach massages. By night, Bangla Road transforms into a lively hub with bars, clubs, and shows. While known for its party vibe, there are peaceful corners for those seeking relaxation.

Perfect for families and those craving tranquility, Kata Beach boasts soft white sand and clear waters ideal for swimming and surfing. Divided into Kata Yai and Kata Noi, both offer a laid-back atmosphere compared to Patong. The southern end is especially serene. Savor Western and local dishes at beachfront eateries, and catch breathtaking sunsets from the viewpoint.

Famous for its long stretch of sand that squeaks underfoot, Karon Beach offers a relaxing escape. With dining options from casual to upscale, and a chill nightlife scene, it's less crowded than Patong, providing a calm retreat. Explore attractions like Karon Temple, Dino Park Mini Golf, and the Naga statue on the beach. Accommodations range from luxury resorts to budget hotels.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Phuket is from November to February, when the waters are clear and the waves are calm—perfect for beach activities and water sports like snorkeling and scuba diving. Keep in mind, this is peak season, so expect more tourists and potentially higher costs.

Travel Tips

1. Temple Etiquette: When you're visiting the beautiful temples in Phuket, remember to dress modestly—cover those shoulders and knees—and slip off your shoes before stepping inside. Keep the noise down, and avoid touching any statues or artifacts. And a quick tip for the ladies: keep a respectful distance from the monks.

2. Beach Safety: Some beaches in Phuket can have strong waves, especially during monsoon season. Keep an eye on the warning flags and listen to the lifeguards. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shore. It's always safer to enjoy the water in designated areas.

3. Jellyfish Alert: During the rainy season, be on the lookout for jellyfish. Some beaches have protective nets, but it's wise to wear a Lycra suit for extra safety. If you get stung, vinegar is your friend—pour it on the sting and seek medical help right away. And remember, swimming alone is never a good idea.

4. Road Safety Tips: Remember that Thailand drives on the left side of the road with the steering wheel on the right. If you're renting a motorbike, wear a helmet and ride carefully. Phuket's roads can be tricky with steep hills and busy traffic. Make sure you have an international driving license and insurance. Stay safe by avoiding speed and being aware of other drivers.

5. Flying Drones: Drone photography in Phuket requires permission. Register with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission first. Keep your drone in sight, below 90 meters, and only fly during the day. Steer clear of flying over crowds, near airports, or military zones.

6. Beach Lounging: Want to relax on the beach? Most places charge for chairs and umbrellas, so if you're looking to save a bit, bring along a beach mat or towel.

7. Alcohol Regulations: Alcohol sales are restricted to specific hours and prohibited in religious sites, government offices, and public health facilities. The legal drinking age in Thailand is 20 years old. Additionally, alcohol sales are banned on important Buddhist holidays like Makha Bucha Day and Visakha Bucha Day.

8. Complete Thailand’s Digital Arrival Card Before Entry: Starting May 1, 2025, all foreign nationals entering Thailand by air, land, or sea must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) electronically at least three days before arrival. The TDAC is required for all foreign passport holders, except those transiting without immigration clearance or entering with a Border Pass. Register at the Thailand Immigration Bureau’s official website.

Useful Guide

Most locals speak and understand Central Thai, but they often communicate using the Southern dialect, which features its own rhythm, accent, and unique vocabulary. English is commonly used in tourist areas, making communication easier. Having a translation app on your phone is a handy tip for making those local connections even smoother.

Summer: Mid February - Mid May; April and May are the hottest months in Phuket, with temperatures reaching up to 38-40°C.

Rainy Season: Mid May - Mid October; Be cautious of strong currents and rough waves when swimming in the sea.

Winter: Mid October - Mid February; Temperatures reach their lowest in December and January, characterized by clear blue skies and low humidity.

Cash is still dominant, especially at small spots.

Cards and bank QR scans are growing.

Tap-to-pay (Apple Pay, Google Pay) catching on.

ASEAN/Hong Kong: Cross-border QR works.

PromptPay or TrueMoney; Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely accepted in tourist spots.

ATMs: 220-baht fee for foreign cards, bank limits may apply.

This Phuket accommodation truly has everything you could ask for – stunning beaches, breathtaking sunset viewpoints, sea-view rooms without any obstructions, and a variety of dining options. Highly recommend the DIAMOND JACUZZI SUITE, a sea-view suite featuring a jacuzzi bathtub that also offers a view of the ocean. The resort features two pool zones. The first is the Ocean View Swimming Pool, offering impressive sea views along with the Ocean View Pool Bar, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, or sipping cocktails. The second is the Waterfall Swimming Pool, a lagoon-style area with a waterfall and waterslide. This zone is more shaded and also includes the refreshing Waterfall Pool Bar. For dining, Kiko Japanese Restaurant is a must-try for lunch. It serves premium, fresh ingredients in sashimi, sushi, and authentic teppanyaki dishes. The atmosphere is quintessentially Japanese and great for photos. Another impressive option is the Sea Salt Lounge & Grill, a beachfront restaurant with a romantic ambiance, ideal for enjoying seafood, cocktails, and picturesque sunset views alongside exciting fire-juggling shows. Checking into my Phuket vacation mode: lounging at the hotel all day. — traveler post in Phuket

Checking into my Phuket vacation mode: lounging at the hotel all day.

The relaxed vibe of Phuket is all thanks to this hotel 🌴 This time, I stayed at Mandarava Resort and Spa Phuket. Newly renovated in 2024, the resort features tropical gardens surrounding a large pool. The water is crystal clear, and every photo looks amazing. The pool is free to use. The hotel offers a free scheduled shuttle! It takes you to and from Karon Beach. Just hop on the shuttle to head to the beach for a stroll in the sand and to watch the sunset (fixed schedules for both ways). The hotel also features live band performances, yoga and meditation, and a spa. You can enjoy the lush garden views right from your room's balcony. It happened to be my birthday on the day I checked in 🎂 They even thoughtfully left a small cake in the fridge! 😭💗 No need to rush around; just lounging at the hotel all day—this is what a vacation should be like. 📍Mandarava Resort and Spa Phuket

Phuket Day Trip | Only after soaking in the sea can I bear to head back to Peach Hill to unwind. — traveler post in Phuket

Phuket Day Trip | Only after soaking in the sea can I bear to head back to Peach Hill to unwind.

🌞 People who have been to Phuket many times will tell you that its beauty isn't in any specific attraction, but in the everyday moments within reach. Phuket's morning starts at Kata Beach 🌊. This is the cleanest section among the three major beaches; the sand is as fine as sugar, and the water is a gradient jelly blue. Step in barefoot, and as the waves gently wash over your ankles, all those KPIs and deadlines are blown away by the sea breeze. ⛰️ At 11:00 AM, head up the mountain to the two adjacent cliffside cafes ☕️. The wooden facade of The Commune unfolds layer by layer, facing directly out to the Andaman Sea; ☕️ the one next door, A Blanket & A Pillow, is a bit more rustic, with round picnic blankets, beanbag chairs, and seaside swings—the further down you go, the bluer the sea gets. Order an iced coffee, sit back, and watch the waves; time just slows down ✨. 🌇 In the afternoon, visit the Big Buddha; the 45-meter statue sits atop the mountain, offering a 360° view of the entire island. In the evening, head to Promthep Cape to wait for the sunset, as the setting sun dyes the sea a golden red 🌅. 🏃 The best part about playing here is that you don't have to rush. That's because we made our "home" on the hillside—Peach Hill Resort. 🏨 The resort is nestled on a hillside, but there's no need to worry about climbing—you can take a shuttle directly up from the entrance, which is convenient and keeps you cool. 🌿 Overall environment: It's just been renovated, and both the aesthetics and quality are on point. As soon as you enter the lobby, you're soothed by the airy lighting and the sea breeze passing through. It's bright, refreshing, and the light is so soft you don't even need filters. The overall decor style is natural and fresh, the facilities are brand new and clean, and the public areas are incredibly photogenic. That pool is ridiculously good for photos—every shot looks like a magazine spread 🩵. 🛏 Sea-view suite: The value for money is truly incredible. I booked a high-value sea-view suite; the room was bigger than I imagined, and opening the curtains reveals a vast expanse of blue. The room also comes with a bathtub. Soaking in it at night with the sea breeze drifting through the curtains melts away the day's fatigue. In the off-season, you can snag a sea-view room for 200+, which is really rare in Phuket ✨. 🍽 Restaurant: A double dose of mountain and pool views. When dining, you're greeted by views of green mountains and the pool. With both landscapes layered together, you can enjoy your meal and take photos at the same time. I even stayed an extra half hour because I couldn't bear to leave. 🍖 If you want to taste local snacks, there's a night market right next to the hotel, just a 10-minute walk away. From pad krapow to tom yum goong, various seafood, and barbecue, there's always something to satisfy your taste buds. ☕ By the way, here's a surprise: the right way to experience the cliffside cafes. It's just a 5-minute walk from Peach Hill to two popular cliffside cafes. Go at 11:00 AM when the weather is perfect and it's less crowded. Sitting on the edge of the cliff drinking an iced Americano, with layers of blue beneath your feet and the sea breeze messing up your hair—I felt that was the most carefree moment ever 🌊. Once you stay here, you'll understand: a good resort isn't just for sleeping; it's for stretching out your vacation.

Kora Beach Resort Phuket: A Stunning Beachfront Escape. — traveler post in Phuket

Kora Beach Resort Phuket: A Stunning Beachfront Escape.

On this trip, I followed my wanderlust straight to Phuket and headed for a check-in at Kora Beach Resort Phuket—a beachfront resort that captures your heart the moment you arrive. From the very first step into the lobby, you'll feel the airy, open atmosphere and a warm, friendly welcome. The resort is beautifully designed to blend with its natural surroundings, offering a lush, peaceful, and highly private sanctuary. It is the perfect place to heal your soul and fully recharge your batteries after a long haul. 🌿✨ As for the guest rooms, they are incredibly spacious and show great attention to detail. The layout is perfectly proportioned, ensuring a restful sleep so you can wake up to the gentle morning sun. The highlight I fell in love with is the location—literally just a few steps from the beach. In the afternoon, you can lounge by the communal pool; the lighting is so soft and beautiful that every photo turns out amazing. But the real magic happens in the evening... watching the sunset dip below the horizon as the orange glow reflects off the water is such an incredible vibe that you’ll lose track of time. 🌅🍹 When it comes to food, there's no need to worry. They have an on-site restaurant and bar serving a delicious variety of both local and international dishes. Dining while taking in the sea view makes the experience twice as satisfying! For anyone looking for a Phuket getaway with a great atmosphere, high privacy, a beachfront location, and a complete relaxation experience, I can say that Kora Beach Resort Phuket is a destination that is absolutely worth the escape. 💙 Planning a trip to Phuket soon? Save this post and follow my lead. I guarantee you’ll fall in love with this place just as much as I did! 😉 📍 Location: Kora Beach Resort Phuket

InterContinental Phuket is absolutely amazing! A long-time fan's verified recommendation—book it without hesitation. — traveler post in Phuket

InterContinental Phuket is absolutely amazing! A long-time fan's verified recommendation—book it without hesitation.

InterContinental never disappoints! 🎯✨ 📍 Check-in: InterContinental Phuket Resort Address: 333, 333/3 Moo 3, Kamala Beach, Kamala, Kathu District As a loyal fan of InterContinental, my stay at Kamala Beach in Phuket this time was another top-tier experience. If you're looking for an island getaway, this is a safe, can't-go-wrong choice. 🌴 ✨ Arrival | Immersive Thai tropical vibes I was immediately stunned by the hotel's Thai white temple-style architecture upon arrival! The lobby is surrounded by layers of tropical greenery, creating an instant sense of relaxation. 🍃 The concierge assisted with luggage right away, check-in was efficient, and they served chilled welcome drinks and fresh fruit—the perfect touch to start the stay. 💯 The resort is vast, divided into garden and beach areas connected by an underground passage. You can call for a shuttle buggy anywhere in the resort, making it easy to get to the beach, restaurants, or the spa without walking. 🚌 🛏 Room Experience | Living in a tropical seascape I stayed in a room with a terrace. It was spacious, with large floor-to-ceiling windows framing the garden and sea views like a painting. 🖼️ The decor features warm, high-end Thai-style wood furnishings with soft, elegant tones. The mattress and bedding were incredibly comfortable—the perfect place to unwind after a long day out. 😴 The bathroom has a complete wet/dry separation, and the large built-in bathtub is perfect for relaxing at night. 🛁 The full set of InterContinental toiletries is high quality. They thoughtfully provide mosquito repellent for island trips, the blackout curtains work great, and the power outlets are well-placed for convenient charging. ⚡ 💡 Tip: IHG members, remember to make the most of your benefits! You may be eligible for room upgrades, welcome fruit, and late check-out, allowing for a more relaxed vacation pace. 🍜 Dining | Satisfying flavors from around the world The breakfast buffet is incredibly rich. Beyond standard Chinese and Western dishes, there are plenty of authentic Thai snacks, tropical fruits, and made-to-order noodle stations. 🍉 If you book a Club room, you can enjoy an à la carte breakfast in the Club Lounge, which is quieter and offers a more premium experience. ☕ The hotel offers a diverse range of restaurants. The Michelin-recommended Jaras Thai restaurant is a must-visit for authentic flavors and great ambiance. 🍽️ The beachside barbecue in the evening is legendary—enjoying seafood with the sea breeze is the ultimate vacation vibe. 🌅 The Club Lounge provides refreshments all day; having a cocktail in the evening while feeling the Andaman Sea breeze is pure bliss. 🍹 🏝 Facilities & Recreation | Relax on a private beach The hotel boasts a private beach in Kamala. It's quiet, uncrowded, and offers expansive views of the Andaman Sea—perfect for watching the sunset. 🌇 There are several themed pools; the elevated infinity pool overlooking the sea is incredibly photogenic, and any photo taken at sunset looks like a masterpiece. 📸 At night, the poolside is beautifully lit and surrounded by tropical plants, creating an amazing atmosphere. ✨ Tucked away in the white temple architecture, the Sati SPA is surrounded by tropical rainforest. After a tiring day, treat yourself to a Thai oil massage to melt away all your travel fatigue. 💆‍♀️ There's also a kids' club for families, so children can find plenty to do. It's perfect for both couples' getaways and family trips. 👨‍👩‍👧 💡 Travel Tips 1️⃣ The resort is large, so call for a buggy instead of walking. 2️⃣ The sun is strong by the beach. Although the hotel provides mosquito repellent, I recommend bringing your own sunscreen. 3️⃣ If you want to try Jaras or the spa, book in advance to avoid it being fully booked. 4️⃣ Kamala Beach is relatively quiet. If you want to go shopping in Patong, it's about a 30-minute taxi ride. Overall, the hardware, service, and environment were all top-notch. If you're looking for a quiet, luxurious island getaway in Phuket, InterContinental Phuket Resort should be at the top of your list. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Phuket! 🥰

Elephant Care Park Phuket

The cafes here are especially beautiful, perfect for family activities. It's effortless to bring kids. Dali is clean and tidy, and there's also Kapibala, like a paradise. I'll definitely bring my family here again next time.

Hanuman World

Hanuman World is definately a place to go to for half a day of fun. The best was the roller zipline. i thought it was safe and normal but it was exhilarating. half of the time i was hanging onto my dear life. The luge was fun too. for those who like to race with friends, the luge is a fun way to do it. If u have time, the unlimited rides would be very worth it. Being afraid of heights, the skywalk was the scariest for me.

Andamanda Phuket Waterpark

I had an excellent day at Andamanda Phuket Waterpark. The park was beautifully designed, very clean and well maintained, with a great selection of slides, pools and attractions. There was something to enjoy throughout the entire day.I also booked a private Wave Cabana for the whole day, which was a great choice. It provided a comfortable and relaxing private space where I could rest between activities and keep my belongings safely nearby. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional, and the facilities were excellent. Everything was well organised, and the whole experience offered very good value for money. I had a fantastic time and highly recommend Andamanda to anyone visiting Phuket.

Simon Cabaret Phuket

Tickets: Buying early is recommended for more choices; VIP tickets are highly recommended for a clear view of the front rows. Time: 4 shows daily, 18:00/19:30/21:00/22:30 Show Tips: The entire show lasts one hour, and photography is only allowed during the first act, so act quickly. The entire performance is song and dance, suitable for children. The choreography is clearly very well done, featuring dances from various styles including Russian, Japanese, Korean, traditional Chinese, and Hawaiian, ensuring there's no boredom. Photo Tips: After leaving the stage, you can take photos with the performers. Choose any of the rows outside; they're very cooperative and posed for photos. They are all beautiful, fair-skinned, and have long legs, so be prepared!

Shows was perfect and interesting. Just the mist on fans before the show a bit annoying. We enjoyed the show and performance.

Carnival Magic Phuket

What a night to remember. I felt like a child enjoying the festivities all night long. The staff were so welcoming from the moment you enter the grounds. The buffet at the Birds of Paradise restaurant was spectacular. The parades were breathtaking and the Festival of Lights at the end were mesmerizing. I can’t wait to bring family and friends here the next time I’m in Phuket.

Phuket FantaSea

The show was incredible, food pretty average but huge selection, also Halal available. Not a fan of the elephants for rides and not sure how I feel about how they have been trained for the shows either...all the animals actually. Trapeze was the star of the show...still great show though

Patong Beach

I really enjoyed my time at Patong Beach. The beach has a lively atmosphere, and there was always something happening, from people playing in the water to vendors selling snacks and drinks. The sand was clean enough for relaxing, and the sea was warm, although it could get crowded during the afternoon. I stayed until sunset, and the view was beautiful with the sky changing to shades of orange and pink. After that, I walked around the nearby streets where there were plenty of restaurants, shops, and places to enjoy the evening. It was convenient because everything was within walking distance. If you prefer a quiet beach, this may not be the best choice, but if you enjoy a vibrant atmosphere with lots of activities, Patong Beach is definitely worth visiting. I would happily come back for another relaxing evening by the sea.
