GGeorgiy T: I like the hotel. Very good breakfast - scrambled eggs, sausages and waffles - all very tasty. Clean and quiet rooms (we got the one on the second floor in the main building). A bit smaller than expected, but good. The only one disappointment - old appliances in loundry.

SSandorDobe: One of the several good value options in Kanab, we finally chose La Quinta Inn for our 2 night stay for visiting the surrounding national parks, and we did not regret it. The room was nice, modern and clean, with a quiet fridge and a coffee machine. Pictures based on the surrounding areas were an especially nice touch. Staff was efficient and honored my request for a top floor room (thanks!). Laundry room (a top priority for us) worked well, although about half of the machines were not operational. Breakfast included bagels, muffins, bread, scrambled eggs and sausage patties, yoghurt, as well as the usual pancake machines. One drawback was that the breakfast was exactly the same on the two mornings we stayed there, and based on some online videos of La Quinta breakfasts I expected a somewhat better selection (like bacon, potatoes, cheese etc.).

WWoshidashabao: Booked on the spur of the moment, couldn't make it to the original accommodation due to heavy rain. One of the lights was broken and kept flashing, so I had to turn it off. The sink was crowded for some reason. You can make your own crepes or waffles for breakfast, but there were too many people so I didn't make it, it was also quite simple, but since it was also a temporary stay, forget it, just had a cup of coffee and left

TTangwang: The room is relatively spacious and has many plug sockets, which is very convenient. When staying in a hotel in the United States, you basically don’t expect slippers and toothbrushes. It's okay as a transit hotel.

Want to eat like a local? Don't miss out on these top Kanab dishes and foodie spots.

The Toadstool Hoodoos Trail is a fascinating short hike in southern Utah, located along US-89 between Kanab and Page. 🍄 Why is it called Toadstool? Toadstool = a mushroom, especially a poisonous one. Because the rocks here have been shaped by wind and water erosion to form: Slender rock pillars topped with massive boulders. They look just like giant mushrooms. These are the same geological features (hoodoos) found in Bryce Canyon, but on a much smaller scale. 🥾 Hiking Difficulty This is one of its biggest advantages: · Distance: Approx. 1.8 miles (2.9 km) round trip · Elevation Gain: Very little · Time: Roughly 1–1.5 hours · Difficulty: Easy / Moderate · The first half is relatively flat · The trail ends in an area filled with concentrated hoodoos ⚠️ Note: This area is not part of a National Park; no pass or fee is required. However, the parking lot is small. If it has recently rained, the trail can be muddy and slippery—please watch your step.

The Wave is nature’s showcase of skill, but getting in requires winning a lottery. It was my first time entering, and I only put in one ticket. I figured if I didn't win, I wouldn't consider trying again the next day... with all those odds against me, the chances were likely very slim. Who would’ve thought? Lady Luck put her hands on her hips and said with a smirk, "Did you really think you could predict me?" And just like that, I won. I participated in the in-person lottery, which required picking up the permit the next day—if you don't show up or arrive late, you forfeit it. So, I woke up early the next morning to see a hazy pink glow draped over the red rocks; it was absolutely dreamlike. I chose Page as my pickup location. A quick map search showed it was only a 4-minute drive from where I was staying—everything was falling perfectly into place. There were four groups of two that day. The orientation started promptly at 8:30 AM. They had already handed out a stack of materials, including a visual map, which was incredibly useful. The staff congratulated everyone before giving a detailed briefing. These points were crucial, so I’m recording them from memory: 1. Driving: Set your GPS to Wire Pass Trailhead. If coming from Page, you have to make a left turn on a 65-mph highway, which is quite difficult. Leave plenty of time so you don't miss the entrance. If coming from Kanab, entering isn't an issue, but leaving presents a similar challenge. We came from Kanab, and luckily traffic was light when we left. 2. The Road: There is a 25-minute stretch (25 mph limit) of unpaved, gravel road with potholes and washboards. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended. There is very little shade along the way, and temperatures stay high even in September. It’s recommended to bring 3L of water per person. 3. Gear & Wildlife: If using trekking poles, they must have rubber tips because The Wave is made of sandstone, not hard rock, and can’t withstand metal or sharp points. (We didn't use poles.) You’ll encounter small animals like squirrels along the way. Avoid carrying shiny objects that might attract them—they’ve been known to sneak into backpacks (someone once realized they’d brought a squirrel back to their hotel!). 4. Navigation: There are no trail markers. It’s very easy to get lost at Location 2 on the map. Near Location 6, as you approach The Wave, the sand is extremely soft—one step forward, two steps back. 5. Group Rules: The group must stay together at all times. There is only one permit per group, held by the primary applicant, so everyone else must follow them. 6. Sign-in/Sign-out: This is vital. You must sign the logbook when entering and leaving. If you forget to sign out, you must call the staff to update the record. Otherwise, you’ll be considered missing, and they will contact your emergency contact. Besides the above, the basics are a must: proper hiking boots, a sun hat, and appropriate clothing (breathable and sun-protective, plus a warm layer just in case). After the session, the staff handed out that lucky green paper—the permit. It’s split in two: one for the car dashboard and one to be wired to the primary applicant's pack (wire provided) for ranger inspections. As for the hike itself, the pictures say it all. Ultimately, while The Wave is a stunning destination, the scenery along the trail is also incredible. I enjoyed every bit of it. I’m grateful to nature for such beauty, grateful for the incredible luck, and grateful that even though we took a wrong turn, we made it out safely... This dreamlike experience is something I’ll remember for many years to come.

Sand Caves: Located very close to the town of Kanab, less than a 10-minute drive. You can overlook the entire interior of the caves, making it a great spot for photos. The uphill path is a bit steep, so remember to wear non-slip shoes. Be sure to check in here as there are many holes to explore. Park at the Moqui Cave Museum or Sand Caves parking lot and walk along the trail for 15 minutes to reach the caves.
