🇮🇸 Skógafoss | Iceland 🌊💚
A spectacular waterfall in Iceland that you'll want to admire in person.

If you're visiting Iceland, one place you absolutely shouldn't miss is Skógafoss. This large waterfall in the south of the country is one of the most famous and a popular stop for those driving along the Ring Road.

Just walking from the parking lot, you'll see the massive waterfall prominently situated between cliffs. The closer you get, the more impressive it becomes – even bigger than in the pictures! Water cascades down from a 60-meter-high cliff, the sound of the water is constant, and mist fills the air.

What I loved most was the sight of the white waterfall cascading down against the black rock cliffs and green moss. Some parts of the cliff are illuminated by the sunlight, turning a golden-green color. Combined with the blue sky, it's incredibly beautiful; a truly natural masterpiece that needs almost no enhancement. 📸

The area in front of the waterfall is paved with black gravel and rocks, typical of Icelandic landscapes. You can get relatively close to the waterfall, but the closer you get, the wetter you'll become from the mist. If you plan to take photos, I recommend bringing a waterproof jacket or coat.

Another interesting point is that if you visit on a sunny day with perfect lighting, the view is stunning. You might even see a rainbow in the mist, adding to the beauty of Skógafoss.

For those who still have the energy to walk, there are stairs leading to a viewpoint at the top of the waterfall. From there, you can see the water from a different angle, but the stairs are quite steep and have many steps. If you plan to climb, allow extra time and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Personally, I liked the view from the bottom the most. You can see the entire waterfall from the top down to the mist below. The longer you stand and gaze, the more you feel the grandeur of nature. The sound of the water and the cool breeze make for an unforgettable experience.

Skógafoss might be a waterfall you've seen many times in photos, but standing in front of it feels completely different – the size, the sound of the water, and the mist you can feel. It's a place that photos can't fully capture.

If you're planning a trip to southern Iceland, I highly recommend adding Skógafoss to your itinerary. Especially for those who love nature, waterfalls, and mountain views, this place is definitely worth a visit 🤍
