Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego

4.6/5
54 reviews
Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego is the southernmost national park in the world, located in Argentina's Tierra del Fuego Province, adjacent to Ushuaia, known as the "end of the world," and situated on the island of Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of South America. Brimming with natural beauty, the park invites visitors to explore its scenic landscapes, vibrant wildlife, and diverse bird species. With abundant rainfall, the slopes turn fiery red with fallen leaves in fall. Snow-capped mountains, lakes, and pristine forests are its hallmarks. A unique way to enter the park is by boarding the "end of the world" steam train outside Ushuaia. Originally built by prisoners from the local jail to transport timber, this narrow-gauge railway has been refurbished as a tourist route. The train chugs through valleys and beech forests, its whistle echoing as it ventures deep into the park. During the southern hemisphere's fall, the beech forests on the slopes transform into a blaze of red, attracting photography enthusiasts from afar.Ushuaia · 9.9 km from downtown
Beagle Channel

Beagle Channel

4.5/5
30 reviews
Beagle Channel is a natural waterway stretching from the Atlantic Ocean in the east across Argentina and Chile to the Pacific Ocean in the west. It is named after the British survey ship HMS Beagle, which sailed and surveyed here; Darwin also explored these waters aboard the ship. The channel extends approx. 240 km from east to west, with continuous mountain ranges on both banks and some glaciers reaching directly into the sea, serving as an important waterway connecting the South Atlantic and South Pacific Oceans. The channel's waters are relatively calm, and the small islands and reefs scattered throughout are breeding grounds for penguins, sea lions, fur seals, and various seabirds. During the boat trip, you can see groups of sea lions lounging on the reefs, Magellanic penguins active on the shore, and seabirds like cormorants circling the cliffs at close range. A red and white striped lighthouse stands in the channel; because it is located at the southern tip of the American continent, it is known to travelers as the "Lighthouse at the End of the World" and is a highly recognizable landmark during the voyage.Ushuaia · 31.5 km from downtown

Faro Les Éclaireurs stands in the Beagle Channel east of Ushuaia, Argentina, built on a small, isolated rocky islet. The red, white, and red striped brick tower is approx. 11m tall, with a black lantern room at the top. The lighthouse is now solar-powered and operates automatically, and it still guides ships entering and leaving Ushuaia today. To see the lighthouse up close, you need to take a boat from Ushuaia. The boat will slowly circle the islet, allowing you to take photos. During the trip, you can also see South American sea lions basking on the rocks and flocks of cormorants and seagulls. The red and white tower framed against the deep blue water and the mountains on both banks is a classic scene of this sea voyage.Ushuaia · 15.7 km from downtown

29 reviews
Museo del Fin del Mundo is located in Ushuaia, the capital of the Tierra del Fuego province in Argentina. This coastal city, known as the end of the world, faces the Antarctic continent across the sea. The century-old building housing the main museum was originally opened as a branch of the National Bank of Argentina. It still retains the original bank vault, bulletproof vault door, and counters. Within walking distance, there is also a branch museum converted from the old Government House dating back to the late 19th century. The interior exhibition halls focus on the nature and culture of Tierra del Fuego. The ethnographic hall displays bone and stone harpoons and scrapers used by the Yaghan people, as well as replicas of canoes and woven baskets, telling the story of their thousands of years of hunting and fishing life. In a prominent position in the same hall is the figurehead of the British ship 'Duchess of Albany,' which was wrecked off the coast of Tierra del Fuego in 1893, and nearby you can see artifacts from the German cruise ship 'Monte Cervantes,' which sank in 1930. The natural history section brings together specimens of over 180 species of birds from Tierra del Fuego, arranged by habitats such as the sea, coast, and forest. Visitors can also hear corresponding bird call recordings, and there are also displays of marine mammal specimens such as sea lions and seals. There are also dedicated rooms for the stories of early missionaries and pioneers, as well as items made by former prison inmates.Ushuaia · 485m from downtown

Martial Glacier

Martial Glacier is located on the slopes of Mount Martial, north of downtown Ushuaia. It is a cirque glacier at the end of the Fuegian Andes, with a profile resembling a semicircular amphitheater of ice and snow. The stream formed by the glacial meltwater remains one of the important drinking water sources for Ushuaia. The trail system here is well-developed, ranging from a forest loop that takes about half an hour to a scenic route that takes two to three hours, which you can choose based on your physical fitness. Along the way, you will pass through a primeval false beech forest, see huge glacial erratics left over from the last ice age, and be accompanied by the stream. Visitors who do not want to hike the entire way can also take a cable car at the foot of the mountain to save some effort. In clear weather, standing at the observation point at the front edge, you can overlook downtown Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel, taking in the mountains, city, and islands all at once. There are tea rooms and restaurants at the foot of the mountain, where you can sit down and have a hot drink when you are tired from walking. In winter, it transforms into a small ski resort, where skiing, snowboarding, and forest zip-lining each offer their own fun, making it a place with different activities to enjoy all year round.Ushuaia · 6.9 km from downtown

Cerro Castor

Cerro Castor is a ski resort in the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego, located on the southern slopes of Cerro Krund outside the city of Ushuaia. Its high latitude brings a cold and humid climate, resulting in an exceptionally long ski season. The lifts and facilities are relatively modern, and the ski runs cover all difficulty levels from green and blue to red and black. Beginners can learn from scratch on gentle slopes with the ski school, while experienced skiers can test their skills on the red and black runs or in the terrain park. The lifts climb from the base to the summit at just over 1,000 m, and the vast forests of Antarctic beech in the valley add a touch of the wild, characteristic of Patagonia, to the ski runs. In addition to alpine skiing, it offers a variety of snow activities such as snowshoeing, sledding, and cross-country skiing, so there are plenty of options for non-skiers as well. There are restaurants and cafes on the mountain where you can take a break and enjoy a hot drink when you get tired.Ushuaia · 20.3 km from downtown

After a day and a night of bumpy ride, we finally passed through the stormy Drake Passage, entered the waters of Chile and Argentina, sailed into the Beagle Channel, passed the southernmost city of South America - Ushuaia, Argentina, the sky became clear, and a rainbow actually spanned across the strait, Chile on the left and Argentina on the right, which excited everyone on the boat [applause] and saw the blue glacier [color]

The Egrejes Lighthouse is a century-old lighthouse in Ushuaia. It is also the southernmost lighthouse on Earth and is known as the lighthouse at the end of the world. Although it is only a symbolic meaning, you must go and see it for the sake of the end of the world.

Here are the steep "End of the World" cliffs and Baker Falls. When you walk to the edge of the cliff at the top of the mountain, it feels like you have reached the end of the world, hence the name.
