Iguazu National Park

4.9/5
17 reviews
Iguazu National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1984. The park centers on Iguazu Falls, which spread out in a semicircle, spanning the border between Argentina and Brazil. Among them, the U-shaped gorge known as Devil's Throat features water cascading down from a great height, with rising mist covering almost the entire field of view. The Argentina side features two walking trails, the Upper Circuit and the Lower Circuit: the Upper Circuit offers a panoramic view of the falls from above with an expansive vista; the Lower Circuit stays close to the water, allowing you to feel the impact of the water up close, and you can see named waterfalls such as San Martin Falls along the way. To reach Devil's Throat, you need to take the park's ecological train and then walk along the boardwalk to the viewing platform. The park is surrounded by subtropical rainforest, which is home to wildlife such as jaguars, anteaters, howler monkeys, and South American tapirs. Groups of South American coatis are often seen near the trails, and there is also a rich variety of bird species.Argentina · Iguazu

Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls in South America is one of the world's five great waterfalls, known for its vast width. The name "Iguazu" means "great water" in the language of the Guarani, the indigenous people of South America. The falls are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil. In 1984, Iguazu Falls was designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. What sets Iguazu Falls apart is the multitude of viewing points, offering different perspectives from various locations, directions, and heights. The entire waterfall system is vast in quantity, majestic in scale, and awe-inspiring in sound, creating an unforgettable experience. 1. Waterfall history In the 1540s, Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca wrote about it in European records when he traversed the rainforest. The formation of such a spectacular waterfall at Iguazu is inseparable from its geological and geographical conditions. The current terrain was shaped by volcanic eruptions 1.2 billion years ago. The Paraná River valley in Brazil consists of north-south trending basalt, while the Iguazu River and its bedrock run perpendicular to the Paraná River, resulting in much weaker erosion compared to the Paraná. Even today, the waterfall continues to change and will keep evolving. The transformation of what was once a basalt plateau into today's breathtaking landscape is truly awe-inspiring. 2. Waterfall details The Iguazu River originates in the Mar Mountains near Curitiba, winding westward through the Brazilian Highlands for 1,320 km. Before merging into the Paraná River, it collects over 30 tributaries along its course. At Iguazu Falls, the river widens to 4 km. Iguazu Falls is a spectacle whose power, form, and thunderous roar can only be believed after experiencing it firsthand. Under the sunlight, it creates countless fantastical rainbows, presenting a magnificent sight. Iguazu Falls far surpasses Niagara Falls in North America in both height and width, offering a more majestic and splendid view. Its roaring waters can be heard from 30 km away, making it a true wonder of the world. Located in a subtropical region, Iguazu Falls maintains relatively stable water levels throughout the year. The local rainy season from January to March brings the highest water flow, making it the best time to visit, while the dry season from August to October sees reduced water volume. 3. Devil's throat Nearly half the water of the Iguazu River squeezes into this U-shaped crack, tumbling down to the valley floor over 80 m below, roaring like rolling thunder, with mist rising dozens of meters high. On sunny days, rainbows almost hang over the curtain of mist all day long. 4. In-park activities A few years ago, Iguazu Falls was operated by a private company, which built about 20 km of sightseeing boardwalks, laid an electric railway, and completely upgraded the tourism facilities. Within the attraction, visitors can walk along the boardwalks or take a sightseeing train to explore various attractions. At the end of the boardwalk, there is a tower where an elevator takes you directly to the top of the falls for a side view of Iguazu Falls. Getting up close to the waterfalls is one of the most thrilling activities in Iguazu – riding a speedboat into the falls and weaving through them is incredibly exhilarating. However, this is an optional activity (fees excluded) costing $60 per ride, and requires going downstream first. First, take a sightseeing vehicle through the jungle (it's said that the seeds of a certain tree along the way are exclusively used for French perfumes, while some plants serve as staple food for indigenous people). After disembarking, transfer to a jeep to descend several steep slopes before reaching the speedboat departure point. Travelers need to wear raincoats and life jackets before boarding the speedboat. The boat moves upstream at a relatively fast speed, with rapid currents. When approaching the waterfalls, the boat stops to allow travelers to take photos, then revs up and charges straight toward the falls. This is repeated several times, making it an extremely thrilling experience. 5. Differences between touring Argentina and Brazil The waterfalls are distributed on both sides of the canyon, which serves as the border between Argentina and Brazil, offering strikingly different views from each country. The park on the Brazilian side is one of Brazil's larger forest reserves, covering 170,000 hectares and home to abundant wildlife. In Argentina, there are two tour routes: the lower path winds through dense forests, allowing you to admire the grandeur or charm of each waterfall section from below—truly a new view every ten steps. The upper path offers a top-down experience of the waterfalls' cascading power. On the Brazilian side, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the main waterfalls in Argentina.Argentina · Iguazu

Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego is the southernmost national park in the world, located in Argentina's Tierra del Fuego Province, adjacent to Ushuaia, known as the "end of the world," and situated on the island of Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of South America. Brimming with natural beauty, the park invites visitors to explore its scenic landscapes, vibrant wildlife, and diverse bird species. With abundant rainfall, the slopes turn fiery red with fallen leaves in fall. Snow-capped mountains, lakes, and pristine forests are its hallmarks. A unique way to enter the park is by boarding the "end of the world" steam train outside Ushuaia. Originally built by prisoners from the local jail to transport timber, this narrow-gauge railway has been refurbished as a tourist route. The train chugs through valleys and beech forests, its whistle echoing as it ventures deep into the park. During the southern hemisphere's fall, the beech forests on the slopes transform into a blaze of red, attracting photography enthusiasts from afar.Argentina · Ushuaia

La Boca is an old neighborhood next to the port of Buenos Aires. In the late 19th century, large numbers of Italian and Spanish immigrants settled here, making a living as port stevedores and shipbuilders. They used leftover ship paint to paint their corrugated iron shacks, accidentally creating the colorful street view seen today. The heart of the neighborhood is a pedestrian street called Caminito, which has been turned into an open-air museum. The high-saturation colored houses on both sides are clustered, and the walls are covered with murals and reliefs by local artists. Tango dancers often perform impromptu shows along the street. La Boca is considered one of the important birthplaces of tango, and the name of Caminito itself is taken from a tango song of the same name. The neighborhood also carries a rich football culture. The home stadium ofArgentine football club Boca Juniors, Estadio Alberto J Armando, is nearby, where Maradona once played wearing the blue and gold jersey. A team museum is located next to the stadium, displaying collections such as trophies and jerseys from over the years.Argentina · Buenos Aires

Devil's Throat is one of the core sections of Iguazu Falls, located on the Argentina side. Multiple river channels converge at the edge of a semicircular basalt formation, forming a U-shaped abyss where approx. 14 waterfalls cascade down simultaneously, with a drop of over 80m, creating a concentrated and fierce volume of water. The massive water curtain plunges into a narrow rift, with mist rising and filling the air. To reach the viewing platform, you need to take the park's sightseeing train through the tropical rainforest, then walk along the steel walkway built over the upper reaches of the Iguazu River. Along the walkway, the river surface is wide and calm, occasionally dotted with flocks of birds and small islands, contrasting with the sudden drop of the waterfall at the end. The viewing platform is suspended above the main waterfall, allowing you to watch the water cascading down and feel the mist hitting your face up close.Argentina · Iguazu

Plaza de Mayo is the main square of Buenos Aires, with a history dating back to the city's founding by the Spanish in 1580. The square was formerly the colonial-era Plaza de la Victoria and Plaza del Fuerte. In 1884, the colonnade separating the two squares was demolished, and they were merged and officially named after the May Revolution of 1810—a revolution that took place on May 25 and marked the beginning of Argentina's path to independence from Spanish colonial rule. In the center of the square stands the Pirámide de Mayo, built in 1811 to commemorate the first anniversary of the May Revolution. It is surrounded by several iconic buildings: the pink Casa Rosada at the east end, and the colonial-era Cabildo at the west end, which is now a museum displaying historical artifacts from the May Revolution; to the north is theBuenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral. These buildings, with their diverse yet harmonious architectural styles, make the square feel like an open-air history museum.Argentina · Buenos Aires

The obelisk stands in the Plaza de la República and is one of the city's iconic landmarks. In 1936, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Buenos Aires, Argentine modernist architect Alberto Prebisch designed this monument, using the Luxor Obelisk in Egypt as a prototype. The monument is approx. 67.5 m high, features a reinforced concrete structure, and is clad in white stone from Cordoba, with geometric lines throughout. The site it occupies has a unique historical background—it was once the location of the Church of St. Nicholas, where the Argentine flag was first raised in Buenos Aires. Inside the monument, there is a 206-step staircase leading to windows on all four sides at the top. Its surroundings are also a hub of urban vitality: the Avenida 9 de Julio is known for its width, Corrientes Avenue brings together numerous theaters and restaurants, and multiple subway lines intersect underground. Whether it is citizens celebrating after a sports victory, or street art and public gatherings, this place has always been a central point where people spontaneously gather.Argentina · Buenos Aires

Parque Nacional Los Glaciares

44 reviews
Parque Nacional Los Glaciares is located at the eastern foothills of the Andes. The park features a vast ice field, one of the largest ice caps outside of Antarctica, which feeds dozens of large glaciers. Glacial meltwater flows into alpine lakes such as Argentino Lake, creating spectacular landscapes of icebergs and glacial lakes. The shores of Argentino Lake in the southern part of the park are the core tourist area. Perito Moreno Glacier is the iconic landmark here, with its ice wall towering above the lake surface, where the blue-and-white ice textures are clearly visible. This glacier has long maintained a state of near-equilibrium between accumulation and ablation, which is rare against the backdrop of global glacial retreat. In addition to viewing the full panorama of the glacier along the boardwalks, taking a boat to approach the glacier cliffs to look up at the ice wall, or putting on crampons to hike on the glacier surface are all unique ways to experience it. The park also contains other large glaciers, such as Upsala Glacier and Spegazzini Glacier, which flow into Argentino Lake and can only be reached by boat cruise. The northern part, represented by Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, is a destination that mountaineering and hiking enthusiasts aspire to visit.Argentina · Lago Argentino Department

Perito Moreno Glacier

56 reviews
Perito Moreno Glacier's ice mass extends from the Andes to the shores of Argentino Lake, with an ice tongue approx. 5 km wide and rising approx. 70 m above the lake surface, forming a blue-and-white ice wall. Against the backdrop of retreating glaciers worldwide, it has long maintained a near-equilibrium state, making it one of only 3 glaciers in Patagonia that have not retreated—a characteristic that has garnered significant attention in glacial research. The glacier's surface is densely packed with crevasses and ice pinnacles, displaying a gradient of colors from cobalt blue to milky white under refracted sunlight, with the edges often covered in fresh snow during winter, creating distinct layers. The glacier is named after the 19th-century explorer Francisco Moreno. Its uniqueness lies in the ice mass periodically advancing to the opposite shore of the lake, forming a natural ice dam that divides the lake in two; the blocked water level rises continuously, and the pressure breaks through the ice wall, triggering a spectacular rupture as a large volume of lake water suddenly gushes out. This ice dam-rupture cycle has an irregular interval, ranging from 1–2 years to over 10 years, making it a rare dynamic geological phenomenon in nature.Argentina · Lago Argentino Department

Puerto Madero

Puerto Madero is a very modern waterfront neighborhood in Buenos Aires, converted from an old port dating back to the late 19th century. This area was once one of the earlier ports built in Buenos Aires, but it fell into decline after the port's functions were relocated, until large-scale urban renewal began in the 1990s. The former red-brick warehouses and granaries have been converted into loft apartments, offices, hotels, and restaurants. They stand side-by-side with brand-new glass curtain wall high-rises, and this blend of old and new has become the neighborhood's signature cityscape. A prominent landmark in the port area is the Puente de la Mujer, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, with a shape inspired by a pair of tango dancers. Strolling along the dockside promenade, you can board the ARA Sarmiento frigate moored at the pier to visit and learn about the history of the Argentine Navy. The east side of the port area is adjacent to the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve, a rare, large-scale natural wetland within Buenos Aires that is home to a large number of birds. In addition, the streets in the port area are all named after prominent women in Argentine history, and there are several cultural venues along the way.Argentina · Buenos Aires

The shock of Iguazu National Park is beyond expectation! Standing on the observation deck on the Brazilian side, 275 waterfalls pour down like the Milky Way, the roar of the "Devil's Throat" is deafening, and the mist and rainbows come to your face. The plank road on the Argentine side goes deep into the waterfalls. When you rush into the water curtain by boat, you will feel the wild power of nature when your body is soaked by the majestic water. The howler monkeys and blue-violet macaws shuttle through the tropical rainforest, and the waterfalls together form a three-dimensional ecological picture. It is recommended to reserve two days, take a helicopter to overlook the horseshoe-shaped panoramic view in the morning, and watch the sound and light show on the Brazilian side in the evening, so that your vision and hearing are immersed in this earth-class wonder.

Bringing children to experience bamboo weaving is totally worth it. The teachers are local artisans with decades of experience and are incredibly patient with the kids. They teach them step by step, from splitting bamboo strips to weaving patterns, without being perfunctory just because they are children. My child wove a small bamboo basket by themselves and was very proud when they came out carrying it. Sitting there for an afternoon, without having to think about anything, was so comfortable.

Los Glaciares National Park: Located in southern Argentina, it belongs to the Santa Cruz Province of Argentina in the Patagonia Plateau. The glacial lake where the glacier park is located is called Lake Argentina, and the most famous of them is the Moreno Glacier. It is famous for being one of the few glaciers in the world that is still "alive". You can see the wonder of ice avalanches here every day. In 1945, Argentina listed this place as a national park for protection, and in 1981 it was listed as a United Nations World Natural Heritage.

If you only visit the Glacier Park boardwalk, the glacier is quite far from the boardwalk and has receded significantly. However, ice hiking is a different story. The Mini 2 hike involves about an hour of hiking first, followed by about an hour and a half of ice walking with crampons. Finally, you can enjoy champagne and chocolate on the ice! I highly recommend ice activities.
