The Big Rig

The Big Rig is located in Roma, Queensland, Australia. This outdoor museum faithfully recreates the historical scenes of early oil exploration and extraction. The centerpiece of the park is the 40 m Big Rig observation tower, where travelers can take the elevator or climb the stairs to the top for a panoramic view of Queensland's vast inland plains. The park displays multiple 1920s vintage steam drilling equipment and old-fashioned extraction machinery, complemented by a treetop walkway through red gum forests. The Peter Keegan Oil and Gas Museum and open-air exhibition hall showcase numerous historical photos and tool artifacts, using text, images, and interactive installations to tell the stories of oil pioneers' arduous explorations. At night, a unique starlight sound-and-light historical show is held in the outdoor theater, using projections and narration to depict the history of oil and gas extraction, with complimentary tastings of local port wine. Combining educational science with leisure tourism, it is an ideal destination for families and geology history enthusiasts, serving as a distinctive cultural landmark on Queensland's inland self-drive route.
