Matera opened the list of World Cultural Heritage with the thousand-year-old cave dwellings "Sassi". The gray-white limestone caves are stacked and staggered, like solidified amber in the morning light, and coated with honey-colored luster at dusk. Walk through the maze-like stone alleys of the Sassi district, touch the rough rock walls with your fingertips, and you may encounter a medieval cave church at the corner. Visitors can look up at the 13th-century Byzantine dome frescoes in the rock church; hike through the Gravina Gorge, where the jagged stone bridge connects to the wasteland like the surface of the moon; climb up to the Murgiatimone viewing platform to capture the moment when the sunset dyes the caves into golden red. The magical hotel transformed from a cave is also worth experiencing: the rock wall constant temperature system replaces air conditioning, and modern furniture and original chisel marks dialogue under the arched stone dome. i suggest to go to Belvedere (gps Jazzo Gattini parking) to see Matera from far. time is from 18:00 to night when lights on.
food: lamb and tomatoes. frie pizza with onions is for strong stomAch, otherwise avoid.

When the weather is good, this place is absolutely beautiful, so my reminder is to make sure the sky is clear before you go, so that the photos will look good. Otherwise, if it is gray, although it is also beautiful, the photos taken will not have that fairy-tale feeling. The photos below were taken on a cloudy day, so the sky is not very blue. This place is definitely worth a visit, especially in the summer. It is very beautiful. There are many special shops, restaurants, cafes and places for handmade leather products.
