Basilica of Saint Nicholas

Basilica of Saint Nicholas

4.4
5.0/5
2 reviews
The Old Basilica of St. Nicholas is an ancient building of deep religious and historical value, often closely related to Christian traditions, local beliefs, and medieval architectural art. The temple was mostly built in honor of St. Nicholas, who was regarded as a symbol of charity, protection, and charity, and was widely revered in many parts of Europe. The architectural style often incorporates Gothic, Romanesque or Byzantine elements, and the interior is often decorated with exquisite frescoes, stained glass, altars and icons, showing a solemn religious atmosphere. As an important place for religious activities, the Basilica of St. Nicholas not only hosts worship, prayer and festivals, but also witnesses the development of local society and culture. From the perspective of architectural art and spiritual beliefs, it is an important window to understand local historical traditions and religious culture.Bari · 1.5 km from downtown
Cathedral of Saint Sabinus

Cathedral of Saint Sabinus

3.6
The Basilica of San Sabino is located in the old town of Bari in southern Italy and is one of the important religious buildings in the area. Its official name is Bari Cathedral. The church was mainly built in the 12th–13th centuries on the site of an earlier Byzantine church and is a representative of Apulian Romanesque architecture. The exterior uses light-colored stone, with a simple and solemn facade decorated with a rose window, arcades, and exquisite stone carvings; the interior is characterized by a tall nave, arches, and a serene and solemn space. The crypt houses the relics of Saint Sabino and also preserves religious artworks such as images of the Virgin Mary. Ancient ruins can also be seen near the church, and some areas display traces of early Christian architecture.Bari · 1.3 km from downtown

Trulli, Rione Monti

8.3
4.3/5
15 reviews
Trulli, Rione Monti is one of the best-preserved complexes of conical stone dwellings in Europe. Trulli are a unique type of dry-stone construction built without mortar, relying solely on limestone blocks stacked in layers, with conical roofs formed by stones corbelled outward layer by layer. This architectural technique dates back to prehistoric times and is still used in the Itria Valley today. Originally scattered across the countryside as farmhouses, animal shelters, or storage for farm tools, Alberobello is where these trulli are clustered together. The town preserves over 1,500 trulli, mainly concentrated in two areas: the Rione Monti district in the south features approx. 1,000 conical-roofed houses, with various handicraft shops lining the streets, and many shop owners invite visitors inside to see the interior structure of the trulli; the Rione Aia Piccola district is smaller and retains a more authentic residential character, with no commercial shops, offering a quieter atmosphere perfect for a leisurely stroll. As you wander through, you will see layers of white limestone walls and gray conical roofs.Alberobello · 48.3 km from Bari

Bari Old Town Sea Wall

Bari Old Town Sea Wall

2.7
Bari Old Town Sea Wall is an ancient defensive structure and an important spot for tourists today to enjoy the city's scenery and experience its historical atmosphere. The existing walls were mainly formed in the late Middle Ages and were further reinforced and rebuilt during the Spanish rule in the 16th century. Thick stone walls, watchtowers, and coastal defensive facilities together make up the wall ruins seen today. The tall stone walls are built of light-colored limestone and, after hundreds of years of weathering, still retain a sturdy and ancient appearance. Strolling near the top of the walls, you can see ancient buildings, narrow streets, and the blue sea blending together, showcasing Bari's unique historical view. This wall is not only an architectural relic but also carries the memories of this city for hundreds of years. It has witnessed Bari's development from a medieval port and defensive city to a modern tourist city.Bari · 1.2 km from downtown
Trullis Zone
No. 2 of Night Attractions in Apulia

Trullis Zone

7.1
Trullis Zone is the iconic district of the town of Alberobello, densely packed with over a thousand trulli. Trulli are domed stone houses built using a dry-stone technique with limestone, featuring white limestone walls and gray conical stone roofs, arranged in rows along the hillside. The roofs of the stone houses are often painted with symbols in white lime wash, including both religious motifs and astrological patterns. Today, most of the trulli in the Trullis Zone have been converted into craft workshops, souvenir shops, restaurants, and homestays. Visitors can step inside the stone houses to experience the coolness provided by the thick stone walls and the unique domed spaces. The district is built along the hillside with winding cobblestone paths, making walking the ideal way to explore. Follow the slope to the top, and you will see the Church of Saint Anthony, a trullo-style church built in the 1920s. The highlight of visiting the Trullis Zone lies in wandering through the streets themselves: the roof curvature, lintel decorations, and wall colors of each stone house are unique, and many doorways are lined with hand-painted pottery, olive wood crafts, and local specialties. Walk to the viewing platform opposite the district for a panoramic view of the entire cluster of trulli spreading along the hillside, which is a great spot for capturing classic photos.Alberobello · 48.2 km from Bari

When the weather is good, this place is absolutely beautiful, so my reminder is to make sure the sky is clear before you go, so that the photos will look good. Otherwise, if it is gray, although it is also beautiful, the photos taken will not have that fairy-tale feeling. The photos below were taken on a cloudy day, so the sky is not very blue. This place is definitely worth a visit, especially in the summer. It is very beautiful. There are many special shops, restaurants, cafes and places for handmade leather products.
