Santa Claus Village

4.6/5
304 reviews
Santa Claus Village is located 8 km north of Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle. Every year, a steady stream of visitors flocks from all over the world to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus. Santa Claus Village is a group of wooden buildings, including a pointed main gate, restaurants, flower gardens, Santa's office, residence, post office, gift shops, and a reindeer park. The tents and antlers used by the Laplanders for their stay are also quite interesting souvenirs. Here you can also get a certificate for crossing the Arctic Circle. The Santa Claus post office offers various fairy-tale stamps, greeting cards and gifts. All letters sent from here will bear a special postmark from the Arctic Santa Claus post office. Here you can also book a letter signed by Santa Claus at the post office, which will be sent to your friends and family during Christmas, bringing them a delightful surprise. By the woods stands a reindeer park enclosed with wooden fences, home to many beautiful reindeer. In summer, they lounge lazily on the grass to rest; come winter, especially during Christmas, they work hard for Santa and travelers, pulling sleighs across the snow at full speed. This lets travelers enjoy the thrill of snowflakes brushing their faces and experience the joy and warmth of Christmas, turning scenes from holiday cards into reality.Finland · Rovaniemi

Lofoten Island

13 reviews
Lofoten Island are located within the Arctic Circle and are famous for their steep mountains rising directly from the sea and deep fjords carving the islands' outlines. Traditional fishing villages such as Reine, Hamnøy, and Henningsvaer are scattered along the coast, with red fishermen's cabins built along the water, carrying on the cod fishing tradition that has continued since the Viking Age. In winter, rows of cod drying racks can still be seen along the coast. The E10 highway runs through the archipelago, connecting the fjords and fishing villages, and is the main route for a self-drive tour of the islands. In summer, the islands enjoy the midnight sun, with daylight lasting all night, making it perfect for hiking and photography. Winter marks the window for viewing the northern lights.Norway · Vestvagoy

Sommarøyis a small fishing island in Northern Norway, located within the Arctic Circle. It sits at the mouth of a fjord west of Tromso, and you can reach the island by driving about 1 hour from downtown Tromso and crossing the bridge. The island is famous for its unique relationship with time: from mid-May to late July, it experiences the polar day, where the sun does not set for over 2 months; from late November to mid-January of the following year, the sun barely rises at all. The island's natural scenery is equally stunning: fine white sand beaches paired with clear, turquoise waters have led many travelers to call it the "Caribbean of the North." Standing on the beach, you can also look out at the sharp Håja island in the sea; it is said that the design of the Arctic Cathedral in Tromso was inspired by it. Summer is perfect for strolling on the beach under the midnight sun or going kayaking; in winter, the low light pollution makes it a great place to view the aurora around Tromso.Norway · Sommaroy

The Tromso Fjords are located near the city of Tromso in Northern Norway, where rugged mountains, deep valleys, and vast bays combine to create a unique Arctic fjord view. The fjord is flanked by steep cliffs, with slopes alternately covered in greenery and snow, creating a stunning mirror effect as they reflect on the water. These waters are a habitat for wildlife such as seals and seabirds, and large marine creatures like humpback whales can occasionally be spotted. The fjord is nestled against the mountains of Tromso, and the panoramic view of mountains and sea forms the most iconic natural backdrop for this Arctic city, making it a quintessential destination for experiencing fjord scenery within the Norwegian Arctic Circle.Norway · Tromso
Nusfjord - Historical Fishing Village

Nusfjord - Historical Fishing Village

5.4
Nusfjord - Historical Fishing Village is a rare example of an old fishing village in the archipelago that has been preserved in its entirety, and today the whole village is managed like an open-air museum. Reddish-brown fishermen's cabins stand on wooden piles by the water, while the blacksmith's shop, smokehouse, and old cod liver oil factory have been preserved in their original state. The old general store still maintains its original counters and shelves, and the wooden racks for drying cod by the village continue the tradition of stockfish that dates back to the Viking Age. People have settled here for over two thousand years, and during the peak of the cod season, thousands of fishermen once crowded this bay. Experiences in the village mostly revolve around the fishing port. You can go fishing on a traditional boat with a local captain. The cod you catch can be cleaned on the spot by the captain and even sent to the seafood-focused Karoline restaurant to be cooked for dinner. In the bathhouse, which was converted from an old warehouse by the sea, wood-fired hot tubs and saunas face the ocean. On winter nights, you can soak in the warm water while waiting for the aurora to streak across the sky, and on midsummer nights, you can watch the midnight sun paint the entire bay in gold. The café inside the old general store is famous for its traditional fish soup, and freshly baked waffles and cinnamon rolls with coffee make for an authentic fishing village afternoon tea, while the former whiskey cellar has been converted into an Italian bistro serving pizza and wine.Norway · Nusfjord

Arctic Cathedral

Arctic Cathedralis located in Tromso, Norway, situated on the mainland side across the strait from the city center. Completed in 1965, it was designed by architect Jan Inge Hovig. The roof on both sides is composed of multiple layers of aluminum-coated concrete panels, with a mountain-like silhouette that rises from the entrance toward the altar. From a distance, it resembles layered ice peaks or raised white sails, and some also describe it as looking like the aurora curtains. Its Norwegian display name means "Arctic Ocean Cathedral." Although it is actually a parish church, it has become a highly recognizable city symbol of Tromso due to this unique design.Norway · Tromsdalen
Hamnoy

Hamnoy

Hamnoyis a small fishing village in the Moskenes region at the western end of the Lofoten Islands, Norway. The village is concentrated on a small island connected to the main island by a road bridge, adjacent to the renowned fishing village of Reine. Surrounded by steep mountains and clear straits, the village features iconic brownish-red fishermen's cabins lined up along the rocky shoreline, which, together with the jagged mountain ridges in the distance, create a highly recognizable scene of the Lofoten Islands. The village owes its existence to the fishing season: the tradition of cod fishing and drying in the Lofoten Islands has continued for over a millennium. During the cod fishing season from winter to early spring each year, fishermen from all over Norway used to gather here. The red fishermen's cabins standing by the water were originally built as dwellings for these seasonal fishermen; some of the old cabins date back to the late 19th century, and today they still stand along the rocky shoreline, supported by stilts over the water.Norway · Moskenes
Reinebringen

Reinebringen

5
Reinebringenis a popular hiking trail in the Lofoten Island, Norway. The mountain is located right next to the fishing village of Reine on Moskenesøya, with an altitude of over 400 m. Although it is not the highest peak in the archipelago, the view from the summit is expansive. During peak season, large numbers of tourists hike this trail every day. A highly recognizable feature of this trail is the nearly 2,000 stone steps built by Sherpa craftsmen from Nepal. In earlier years, a surge in the number of hikers caused soil erosion and rockfall hazards. To address this, the local community built steps to stabilize the path all the way to the mountain ridge, which not only provided a clear and safe route for climbing but also protected the fragile mountain landscape. Several resting platforms were also set up along the way. Once you reach the ridge, the rows of red fishermen's cabins in Reine, other fishing villages like Hamnøy and Sakrisøy, the azure fjord waters, and the jagged peaks all spread out beneath your feet. It is a classic postcard view of the Lofoten Island, and it is especially popular with photography enthusiasts during sunset and the midnight sun in summer.Norway · Moskenes

Abisko National Park is located in northern Sweden and covers an area of 77 sq km. Established in 1909, it is one of Sweden's first national parks, created with the original intention of "preserving an area in the northern Nordic region in its original state for scientific research," and the Abisko Scientific Research Station is also located here. The park is situated on the southern shore of Lake Torneträsk and is famous for its excellent aurora viewing conditions—the unique microclimate of the surrounding valleys keeps the area clear more frequently than the surrounding regions, making it renowned as one of the best places for aurora viewing in Northern Europe. The famous "Kungsleden" (King's Trail) hiking route passes through the park, which also features the typical U-shaped valley "Lapporten," lakes, and Lapland wilderness scenery, serving as an important window for experiencing the natural beauty of Sweden's far north.Kiruna Municipality · 82.1 km from Kiruna

Tickets were issued quickly. I booked them while queuing at the cable car station and managed to get them just in time before entering the gate. They were much cheaper than buying them on-site – great! The blue hour view from the mountain, the city night view, and the Northern Lights were absolutely stunning!

The tree in the center of the square gets its decorations changed every year, and the lighting is quite cozy. There's a Santa Claus office in the village where you can take photos, and a post office where you can send postcards with an Arctic Circle postmark. The tree itself isn't particularly special, but the surrounding wooden houses and reindeer sleighs, combined with the lights in the snow, create a nice atmosphere. It's a good place to bring children to experience Christmas culture.

I've just visited this incredible place during the polar night, and even been with a light light, it was an amazing visit. The small beaches invite you to eat something sitting on the sand while watching the Norwegian Sea.At the village you can find a small supermarket and an electric car charging station.

I went there in autumn. There is no polar day or polar night. The mountains and rivers are beautiful and the air is fresh. It is a good place to relax and unwind. I stayed there for a week. I would recommend everyone who is tired from work to stay in Norway for a week. I didn't live in the city center, but Tromso is so small. The city center, suburbs and airport are all about 15 minutes away by bus. Live slowly and play slowly. In the past, you could see the northern lights as long as it was sunny. Don't get too tired. It is really a good place to absorb energy. If you live by the sea, you will be in a good mood as soon as you open the window every day. Anyway, it is worth a visit.

Where is the northernmost Catholic church in the world? It's Tromso in Norway. If you don't drive to the church, you can take the bus, but we choose to walk slowly, from the city center harbor, walk along the seaside, then walk up the bridge and go straight to see the church. The church is actually not big, because it was not open when I went, the front is glass, you can look inside, nothing special, then walked around the church, the back is stained glass windows, with white snow, very beautiful.

I was lucky enough to get a level 5 when I watched the aurora in Abisko. [Cost-effectiveness] Not cheap, but worth it. [Fun] Beautiful, you can only feel the fun by experiencing it in person. [Scenery] Even if there is no aurora, it is still beautiful here.
