The ancient city of Jieyang is a delightful surprise. It's very distinctive and exquisitely decorated. The blend of historical architecture and modern living creates a wonderful atmosphere.

First of all, the attractions in Jieyang are all very close together. You can probably see everything in a day. The Jieyang Confucian Temple is a must-see. Nearby are the City God Temple, Shuangfeng Temple, Jinxian Gate, the museum, etc. So you can use this as a starting point to begin your Jieyang trip. The Jieyang Confucian Temple is one of the three major Confucian temples in Guangdong, and it's closed on Mondays!

Many travel guides for Jieyang recommended seeing the Yingge dance performance, so I specifically planned to go. The theater is quite a drive from the city center. It felt like the entire scenic area was set up for the Yingge dance performance; besides the theater, there wasn't much else to see. Arriving early, I had nothing to do but order a drink and wait. The area was deserted until it gradually started to get busier closer to the performance. Although the attendance wasn't high, the performance was still very entertaining; those interested should definitely check it out.

Jinxian Gate is the spiritual landmark of Jieyang Ancient City. Originally built in the first year of the Tianqi reign of the Ming Dynasty (1621), it is the only remaining city gate in the ancient city and a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit. The architecture integrates a city gate, gate tower, and pavilion, featuring a three-story fir wood structure, an octagonal pyramidal roof, vermilion railings, green tiles, and upturned eaves, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of ancient Chaoshan architecture. In ancient times, it was known as "Qiaolou Xiaojiao" (literally "Watchtower at Dawn"), where the sound of the horn could be heard throughout the city at dawn, making it one of the eight ancient scenic spots of Jieyang. Having withstood four hundred years of wind and rain and witnessed urban changes, it still stands in the city center today, its red walls and black tiles blending seamlessly with the modern streetscape. It embodies the humanistic wish of "promoting virtuous scholars," is an auspicious gate in the hearts of Jieyang people, and a key window into understanding the history and culture of Chaoshan.

Jieyang Tower is a symbol and landmark cultural building of Jieyang City. Located at the eastern entrance of Jieyang City, at the junction of Jiedong District and Rongcheng District, adjacent to the Rongjiang River, it commands a strategic position at the gateway to Jieyang City via National Highway 206. Its history is relatively short, having been completed on December 6, 2010. It is a Han-style city gate tower, 130 meters wide and 39.3 meters high, characterized by its grand and robust style, fully showcasing elements of Han Dynasty palace architecture. The Jieyang Tower Square opposite the tower covers an area of ​​over 300,000 square meters, with its main axis running east-west. In front of the main tower stands a 9.99-meter-high, 58-ton bronze square ding (a type of ancient Chinese cooking vessel), and a 136-ton Taishan stone symbolizing "broad spirit." Currently under renovation, the tower is inaccessible, but it's still a great place to take photos; the square is spacious and offers a comfortable view. Free parking is a plus.

The scenery at Huilai Binhe Bay Scenic Area is absolutely stunning, with clean, fine sand and a great viewing platform for taking pictures. It also features a children's play area, convenient parking, and is perfect for family outings. The sunset there is incredibly atmospheric and definitely worth a visit.
