Tianshan Tianchi, also known as Tianchi National Geological Park and called "Yaochi" in ancient times, is located in Fukang, Changji Prefecture, on the northern side of Bogda Peak. It is approx. 110 km from Ürümqi and is a famous tourist destination in Xinjiang. In ancient Chinese mythology, Tianchi was also the bathing place of the Queen Mother of the West. Tianchi Lake sits at an altitude of 1910 m, with a maximum depth of 105 m. The lake reflects the Bogda Peak, surrounded by spruce trees, creating a fairy-tale-like scenery. The attraction encompasses natural views such as alpine lakes, wetland meadows, and forested canyons. In 2013, it was designated as a national geological park. When visiting Tianchi, don't just explore the lakeshore—you'll miss many surprising sub-attractions. Recommended hiking routes, lakeside pier - Haixi beach, lakeside pier - East small heavenly pool (Flying dragon pool) The Tianchi attraction features three water bodies: the main lake plus two others on its eastern and western sides. The eastern one is "East Xiaotianchi," also called Heilong Pool, located 500 m east of Tianchi. Below the pool lies a sheer cliff where a waterfall plunges down like a rainbow, giving the site its name "Hanging spring and jade rainbow." On the west side lies "West Xiaotianchi," also known as Jade Maiden Pool, located approx. 2 km northwest of Tianchi Lake. The pool, shaped like a full moon and encircled by towering pines, earned its poetic name "Dragon Pool under the jade moon" from the serene moonlit reflections on its surface. A waterfall cascades beside the pool, plunging dozens of meters like a silver river descending from heaven, dubbed the "Jade belt with silver curtain." Above the pool stands the Sound of Waves Pavilion, offering a unique vantage point to admire the waterfall. All attractions within the scenic area are connected by boardwalks, accessible on foot. On the eastern shore of Tianchi Lake stands the Temple of the Queen Mother of the West, originally built during the Yuan Dynasty. The current structure was reconstructed in 1999 on the original temple site, dedicated to the worship of the Queen Mother of the West, hence also known as the "Queen Mother Temple". It can be reached by hiking along the lakeside boardwalk (approx. 2 hrs) or by taking a cruise. The temple offers excellent views of Tianchi Lake. Maya Mountain requires taking a shuttle bus + cable car. The towering cliffs and numerous stone peaks present a breathtaking sight; from afar, they resemble a row of horse teeth, while looking up, they appear as if jagged rocks are competing in grandeur and stacked cliffs are vying in beauty, creating a mesmerizing view. This view of Maya Mountain is formed by rock weathering.The summit of Maya Mountain is relatively flat, featuring lush grasslands covered with butter grass in summer and dotted with colorful flowers. Standing here, you can take in the panoramic view of Heaven Lake to the north, while the Bogda Peak to the east and the snow-capped mountains to the south seem within reach. To the west, the farmlands on the outskirts of Urumqi are also clearly visible.

The Gurbantunggut Desert covers an area of approx. 48,800 sq km and is one of the few sand seas among China's eight major deserts dominated by fixed and semi-fixed sand dunes. Most of the sand dunes here are anchored by desert vegetation such as saxaul and white saxaul, so it does not look like a vast expanse of pure yellow sand, but rather a vast wilderness where sand dunes and shrubs intermingle. Unlike the barren deserts in one's imagination, the water conditions here are relatively good, and each season has its own highlights: in winter, there is stable snow cover, and the snow outlines the undulating curves of the sand dunes; after the snow melts in spring, ephemeral plants like *Chorispora bungeana* and *Isatis violascens* complete their germination, flowering, and seeding in just a few weeks, decorating the rolling sand dunes like a carpet covered with small flowers, presenting a rare desert blooming scene; in summer, shrubs like saxaul spread their greenery, bringing another kind of vitality. Little known is that the hinterland of this desert also hides the "Eurasian Pole of Inaccessibility," which is more than 2,000 km away from the coastline.

West Xiaotianchi is located on the roadside two kilometers at the foot of Tianchi. It is a barrier lake formed during the movement of ancient glaciers and mainly relies on the undercurrent of Tianchi for water supply. The surface of West Xiaotianchi is like a full moon, the water is clear and deep, surrounded by pine and spruce trees, and the reflections in the pool complement each other. The bright moon is in the sky, the quiet shadow is sinking, and the scenery is infinite, so it is also called Longtan Biyue. A silver waterfall hangs beside West Xiaotianchi, and the Milky Way falls to the ground, spitting pearls and splashing jade, which is called "Jade Pond Silver Curtain". There is a small stream under the waterfall, which is deep and quiet, like a boudoir. It is said that it is the place where the Queen Mother washes and dresses, and it is called "Combing Stream". Going south along the trail, the water flows along the steep mountain where the undercurrent overflows, "It is suspected that the Milky Way falls from the sky", so it is called "Nine-day Milky Way". The Ma Ya Mountain Scenic Area is characterized by mountain landscapes and is located in the mountains about 4.5 kilometers southwest of Tianchi. The mountain is about 5 kilometers long and 3056 meters above sea level. It is the highest of the ten peaks surrounding Tianchi, and it is also one of the most spectacular alpine stone forests in the world. Cui Wei on the cliffs of Ma Ya Mountain, with many stone peaks, from a distance it looks like a row of huge horse teeth, looking up like a thousand temples facing the sky, dazzling, and all of them are amazed by the magical work of nature. The strange landform of Ma Ya Mountain is a masterpiece left by rows of ancient glaciers. During the geological period, the uplifted mountains have different fold compositions, and the rock formations have different degrees of density, softness and hardness. The peak rock of Ma Ya Shan resembles the Egyptian Sphinx. According to legends from the local Kazakhs, this is the pasture of a Bayi. The pictographic stone on the top of the mountain is the incarnation of Bayi. On the north side of the mountain peak and at the edge of the forest, there is a columnar-like stone forest formed by weathering and erosion of columnar eruptive rocks. The shape is very beautiful.

In 1999, Urumqi Daocheng Industrial Co., Ltd. built the "Yaochi Palace" on the original site, covering a construction area of 2,000 square meters. The main hall houses the statue of the Queen Mother of the West, the east side hall houses the statue of Guanyin, and the west side hall houses the statues of Lü Dongbin and Jigong Living Buddha. The sandalwood and gold-plated statue of the Queen Mother currently enshrined in the hall was donated by a Taoist organization, and all other statues here were also donated by Taoist organizations.

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, the lake is crystal clear, with Bogda Peak clearly visible in the distance—a truly breathtaking sight for photos. Taking a shuttle bus and then walking along the boardwalk offers stunning views of the spruce meadows and their reflections. The scenic area is quite large, so it's recommended to leave early, bring a jacket for sun protection, and pack your own water and snacks. The round trip is a bit tiring, but the scenery is absolutely gorgeous, making it well worth the trip. Overall, the experience is comfortable and suitable for families and first-time visitors to Xinjiang. A huge thumbs up to the driver!!

天山之行，最真实的感受是渺小。车行至山脚，天山便以沉默的姿态压来。山体并非图画中的青翠，而是铁灰色的岩脊嶙峋突起，积雪在其间如冷冽的刀光。人站在下面，仰首不见其顶，只觉自己是一粒被偶然吹至此处的尘埃。攀登时，呼吸逐渐被稀薄的空气稀释成白雾，脚步沉重如缚石。四顾皆是无言的山石与远处盘旋的鹰，它不关心我的到来或离去。在这里，人类社会的喧嚣、自负与功名，被山风刮得一丝不剩。我只是在移动，遵循着最古老的生存本能：向上，向前。及至山腰，忽见一线融雪汇成细流，沿石缝潺潺而下。这水必将汇入绿洲，滋养葡萄与麦田，养育歌舞与爱情。此刻我方顿悟：天山的宏大并非为了斥责我的微小，而是以其亘古的庄严，将渺小纳入一种更辽阔的秩序之中。我之渺小，如同那雪水，虽只一滴，却也是宏大叙事的一部分。下山回首，天山依旧沉默。它不记得我，我却带走了它赐予的真实——承认渺小，而后方能看见天地壮阔。

The Gurbantünggüt Desert, located in the central Junggar Basin of Xinjiang (east of the Manas River and south of the Ulungur River), is China's second largest desert and its largest fixed and semi-fixed desert, covering an area of ​​approximately 48,800 square kilometers. The desert features a dendritic sand dune landscape, with dunes accounting for over 50% of its area, creating a unique morphology. Unlike common shifting sand deserts, the Gurbantünggüt Desert's dunes are relatively fixed, with high vegetation cover. After the spring snowmelt, numerous short-lived plants sprout on the desert surface, presenting a vibrant scene of interwoven green and yellow foliage. The desert also contains rich underground oil resources and features typical Yardang landforms such as the Urho Ghost City, making it an important natural and cultural landscape in northern Xinjiang.

Maya Mountain is located in the Tianshan Tianchi Scenic Area in Fukang City, Changji Prefecture. Maya Mountain has steep cliffs and numerous stone peaks. The Xiwangmu Temple is located on the hillside of the northeastern shore of Tianchi Lake in Tianshan Mountain. Because it is dedicated to the Queen Mother, it is also called the "Niangniang Temple". According to current historical records, the Xiwangmu Temple was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It is said that the temple was built on a grand scale and was very popular. In 1932, the Xiwangmu Temple was destroyed by war. In the early 1990s, the Taiwan Taoist "Cihuitang" built a simple temple on the site of the original Xiwangmu Temple for good men and women to worship the Queen Mother. In 2000, the local government rebuilt a magnificent Xiwangmu Temple through investment promotion, restoring this famous monument on the shore of Tianchi Lake.
