The cruise was on a large boat. Boarding wasn't from the pier, but on the right as you move toward the Opera, roughly halfway between the piers and the Opera, across from the souvenir shops. Whales were spotted several times from a distance, and dolphins swam nearby. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and other beverages were served on the boat.

There were only Chinese and Koreans, and most of them seemed to be on tours. The food was decent and tasty, and it's really pretty once you go up, so make sure to take lots of photos!!
Reviews: Sydney Harbour Sunset Dinner Cruise by Captain Cook (2-course/3-course options) - Asia Sunset Dinner

Our cruise dining experience was awesome. The food was average. Meal was well-presented and enjoyable, and the dining staff were friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. The only minor issue we experienced was on one occasion when we departed quite late and had to wait approximately 30 minutes. While this was a little inconvenient, it did not significantly impact our overall experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would happily recommend the dining experience to others.
Reviews: Sydney Whale Watching Cruise on Captain Cook Catamaran (Morning/Afternoon Option)

It was a lucky day to go whale watching! The weather was great on this day, despite the rainy days that Sydney had almost every day! As well as being seeing many Humpback whales and some of which decided to breach for us! I am prone to sea-sickness especially when the cruise is stationary, managed to hold out till near the end, despite taking all kinds of motion-sickness precautions so be warned! Nonetheless, it was an amazing trip to be able to see Humpback whales!
Reviews: Sydney Whale Watching Cruise + Taronga Zoo by Captain Cook

An unforgettable experience! We saw whales (May 28, 2026), even though we were already heading back. One jumped out, wagged its tail, and showed its back. We were dropped off at 11:55 at Taronga Zoo, walked around, looked at the animals, and at 1:35 pm, I returned on a free boat to the other side of the river where we started. I liked the souvenir shop.
