We bought a global e-SIM with 1GB per day (enough for instant messaging and Google Maps for two users, as it shares data). Our goal is to travel across four countries. We've traveled through two countries so far, and everything works fine. Initially, we had to manually configure the e-SIM because the hotspot for data tethering wasn't working. It was easy to set up and purchase. The quality of the connection depends on the local carrier, so there's no way around it, but the best thing about it is the cost performance. It makes me feel silly that I had to use an expensive app to connect. I highly recommend it.
