Xi'an Datang Everbright City Night Tour Guide! Immersive Journey Through the Flourishing Tang Dynasty, Every Second is Stunning
As a fan of ancient style, I finally checked in at Xi'an's top night tour spot — Datang Everbright City! The kilometer-long street is brightly lit like daytime, NPCs bring you into the scene anytime, and the immersive experience is fully maximized. I've put together this guide with real feelings; if you want to meet the Tang Dynasty, just copy it~
Travel & Basic Information: Start worry-free without pitfalls
Location & Transportation: Located on Ci'en Road in Yanta District, connecting to the North Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the north and the Tang Paradise in the south. Take Metro Line 4 to "Datang Furongyuan Station," exit D, and walk straight for 300 meters—super convenient! No need to take a taxi and detour; the subway goes directly there, saving you the hassle of parking.
Opening Hours: Open all day, with core performances concentrated from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Based on my experience, 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM is the golden time when light and performances perfectly overlap, allowing you to check in multiple highlights at once. Don’t miss it~
Personal Feelings: The transportation connection is super smooth. Just a few minutes' walk from the subway, you step into the "Flourishing Tang Night Scene." At the moment the lights come on, it feels like truly traveling back to Chang'an a thousand years ago, with the atmosphere fully charged!
Must-See Performances & Interactions: Immersive Tang Dynasty Experience
Roly-Poly Doll Lady (7:30 PM / 9:30 PM, East Side of Kaiyuan Square): Absolutely enchanting! I recommend getting the front row 30 minutes early. I was lucky to grab a front-row seat, and when she reached out her hand, my heart skipped a beat~ When her skirt twirled and the light shone on her clothes, she looked like a fairy stepping out of a painting. The interaction was amazing.
Tang Secret Box (8:00 PM / 10:00 PM, Zhen Guan Zhi Zhi Sculpture Group): I laughed so hard I stomped my feet! Fang Xuanling and Du Ruhui asked questions live, humorous and witty. If you answer correctly, you get a "Tang Dynasty Pass Document." I tried a poetry question; although I didn’t get it right, the NPC teased me, "Young sir, study for ten more years and come back to challenge," which was very fun. Everyone watching was laughing happily.
Flower Car Parade (8:30 PM, Main Street): The gilded flower cars are stunning, and the actors wear gorgeous Tang costumes, even throwing small gifts into the crowd. I caught a small scented sachet, super exciting~ Following the parade, with cheerful music in my ears and dazzling lights before my eyes, it felt like being in a bustling Tang Dynasty night market—lively and healing.
Return to Chang'an (8:00 PM, Kaiyuan Square): Water curtain projection show + live acting, the effect is stunning! You need to secure a spot early to see the full picture. The prosperous Chang'an scene described by Bai Juyi unfolds in light and shadow, blending ancient and modern scenes, instantly evoking empathy for the Tang Dynasty’s splendor.
Photo Spots: Easily Capture Ancient Style Masterpieces
Tang Ritual Lane Lantern Wall: Layers of vermilion lanterns. I wore a Tang-style chest-high ruqun and held a carp lantern while looking back. My friend captured the moment when my sleeves brushed the lanterns. The ancient style filter was fully enhanced, and my social media got tons of likes~
Poetry Lantern Street: The blue hour 20 minutes after sunset is perfect for stunning photos! Above are lantern signs with poems by Li Bai and Du Fu. Shooting from a low angle, you can easily capture a "starry sky poetry" masterpiece with an amazing atmosphere.
Zhen Guan Zhi Zhi Sculpture Group: Using the statue of Li Shimin on horseback as a background, wearing a dark round-collar robe and walking a few steps for a candid shot fully shows the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty. Perfect for guys’ photos.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda North Square: Use a wide-angle lens near the fountain to capture the tower and its light reflection. The flowing ribbons of the Hanfu and the mist from the water frame together, creating a fairy-like vibe. I took many photos and couldn’t bear to delete any.
2-Hour Highlight Route: Efficient Check-In Without Detours
7:00 PM Watch the fountain light show at Big Wild Goose Pagoda North Square, capturing the tower and fountain together; 7:30 PM Interact with the Roly-Poly Doll Lady at Kaiyuan Square; 8:00 PM Watch the Tang Secret Box quiz at Zhen Guan Zhi Zhi Sculpture Group; 8:30 PM Follow the flower car parade on Main Street to grab small gifts; 9:00 PM Take night portraits by the carved wooden windows at Tang Food Lane; 9:30 PM Finish with atmospheric photos at Poetry Lantern Street. I tested this route; it’s direct, hits the core highlights, and leaves time for photos—super efficient~
Avoid Pitfalls & Thoughtful Tips (Tested Useful)
Be sure to wear comfortable sneakers! The kilometer-long street requires a lot of walking. My friend wore leather shoes and got blisters halfway, complaining the whole time.
Bring your own water bottle. The scenic area has free drinking water, so you can hydrate anytime without buying expensive drinks.
Arrive 30 minutes early for popular performances! If you’re late, you’ll only see heads. Front-row experience doubles the enjoyment. I camped early for the Roly-Poly Doll and Tang Secret Box to get good spots.
Don’t be shy when you meet roaming "Li Bai" or "Yang Guifei." Starting a conversation might earn you impromptu poetry or photo opportunities. I chatted with "Li Bai," and he recited "Bring in the Wine" on the spot—super immersive.
On rainy days, bring a transparent umbrella. Raindrops on the lanterns add poetic charm. When I went, it drizzled a bit, but the glass plank walkway was open as usual, and the photos had an extra touch of hazy beauty.
Personal Feelings
The night tour of Datang Everbright City truly exceeded my expectations! Every lantern tells a story of the Tang Dynasty, NPC acting is on point, performances are spectacular, and photos come out amazing. Walking on the brightly lit long street, with laughter in my ears and the prosperous Tang scene before my eyes, it felt like crossing a millennium and immersing myself in Chang'an’s splendor. This trip not only satisfied my love for ancient style but also let me feel the cultural depth of Xi'an. It’s really worth coming~
