‌Tongzi House‌, located in Anbing Village, Lianhua Town, Tong'an District, Xiamen City, is the former residence of Ye Dingguo, the modern "local emperor" of Tong'an, built in the early 1930s. This building not only reflects Ye Dingguo's unique aesthetic taste but also showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of architecture from that era.‌Tongzi House boasts a unique architectural style, with its layout inspired by the shape of the Chinese character "同" (tóng, meaning "same" or "together"). The entire building forms a complete "同" shape, consisting of a front hall, a central courtyard, a rear two-story building, and flanking side houses. It features red bricks, red tiles, white stone skirting, a double-curved golden saddle ridge, symmetrical left and right sides, and staggered front and rear halls.‌The "一" (yī, meaning "one") shaped pavilion in the central courtyard and the front hall together resemble the "口" (kǒu, meaning "mouth") radical within the character "同," creating a distinctive architectural style.‌Tongzi House is not just a residence; it also served a defensive purpose. Strategic points throughout the house are equipped with gun ports, making it a building that integrates living and defense.‌The rear two-story building is a two-story European-style structure with an outer corridor, nine bays wide and 6.6 meters deep, where the owner would enjoy tea, admire the moon, and relax in the cool air.‌Tongzi House is situated in a beautiful environment, backed by Lianhua Mountain and bordered by Daqi Mountain on the right, with the Lianhua Stream flowing gently from the southeast. Nestled between mountains and water, the scenery is exceptionally picturesque.‌This natural environment adds a touch of tranquility and harmony to Tongzi House. Today, Tongzi House has become a significant tourist attraction in Xiamen, drawing numerous visitors. Revitalization efforts are underway at Tongzi House, introducing intangible cultural heritage, folk customs, cultural activities, and leisure elements, exploring new models for the revitalization of ancient houses. Quanzhou will become a World Heritage site, yet it remains unknown in Xiamen The Wulong Kiln is located in the Xisheng Community of Xiangping Street, Tong'an District, Xiamen City, and is a pottery-making site with a long history. There are a total of 5 kilns at Wulong Kiln, each built with bricks and supported by a stepped corrugated roof, with a square chimney standing at the end of the kiln. Each kiln is about 72 meters long, built on a slope with an incline of about 15°, with a total drop of about 10 meters, resembling a long dragon, hence the name "Wulong Kiln". These kilns were first built in the 25th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1820) by Hong Tianliang, and have a history of over 200 years. The Wulong Kiln has been continuously firing until it ceased operations in 2007. The products of Wulong Kiln mainly consist of daily-use coarse pottery, including pottery jars, flower pots, pickle jars, wine bottles, dragons, etc., not only supplying the local market but also once exported to Taiwan and Southeast Asia. In 2019, two records of Wulong Kiln were recognized by the Shanghai Great World Guinness Headquarters as the "Longest Single Dragon Kiln" and the "Existing Dragon Kiln Group with the Most Dragon Kilns". Recently, the main repair work of Wulong Kiln has been completed, allowing these dragon kilns with a history of over 200 years to stand tall once again. During the repair process, ancient methods were used to ensure the original appearance of the kiln was preserved. The next step is to accelerate the overall environment renovation of the kiln site and consider revitalizing its use, creating a pottery culture landmark that integrates art display, tourism, and cultural research and study. I just happened to visit the Jinjiaoyi Site in Quanzhou a while ago. Speaking of the kiln site alone, the integrity and appreciation of Kengzaikou are better, but in terms of excavation and packaging, Jinjiaoyi is superior. Hidden in the boudoir, unknown to the public, Xiamen really needs to learn from Quanzhou.
