Yushima Tenjin is one of the three gods in Kanto. The shrine blesses students for university entrance exams. From a very early age, many students and parents have come to visit and pray for their studies. The main hall of Yushima Tenmangu Shrine is connected to the worship hall, and it retains a rare shrine in the architectural style of the original building. It is characterized by wide eaves, front screens, and symmetrical columns with even numbers.

hidden gem, exuding tranquility and charm
The beautiful flower exhibition added vibrant colors to the serene atmosphere, creating a unique contrast against the traditional architecture.
This shrine stands as one of Tokyo's oldest, nestled right in the heart of the bustling city. Surprisingly, there were many people there, likely drawn by the stunning plum blossoms blooming in mid-February.

A Peaceful Visit to Yushima Tenjin Shrine⛩️
#tokyotravel
I visited Yushima Tenjin Shrine on a weekday evening, alone, and had a really peaceful experience. The shrine is dedicated to Tenjin, the deity of learning, so it’s a popular spot for students. I saw a lot of them there, some praying for good results, others just taking a break to reflect. The atmosphere at night is calming, with the shrine lit up beautifully.
**Why I Recommend It:**
- It’s a quiet and serene place to relax, especially on weekdays when it’s less crowded.
- The history and connection to academic success make it a unique spot to visit, especially for anyone who loves learning or needs some inspiration!

Yushima Tenmangu Shrine Cherry Blossoms 🌸 Relaxing and Refreshing
#樱花2024
Cherry blossom viewing at Yushima Tenmangu Shrine 🌸The pink sea of flowers fills the eyes. From countless large cherry trees, petals fall like rain, the colorful flowers are dazzling and the scenery is magnificent. In the crowd, we saw many families and groups of friends, some were appreciating the cherry blossoms, and some were taking photos under the flowers.
The ringing of the bells complements the scenery of the sea of flowers, adding a unique visual and auditory enjoyment. Walking freely in this romantic cherry blossom forest, expressing your feelings under the flowers, and appreciating the beauty of nature makes one feel infinitely relaxed and happy. This cherry blossom viewing trip deeply attracted me to its beauty.

Tokyo Flower Viewing ~ Ueno "Yushima Tenmangu Shrine" Plum Blossoms
Talking about the charm of Tokyo~~ There are different flower scenes to enjoy every month, especially with many gardens and parks in Tokyo, each season has its own unique flower scenery. After the Chinese New Year holiday and winter vacation, the next long holiday is the annual leave. Some people who did not travel abroad during the Chinese New Year may use their annual leave to travel to Tokyo. What are the scenic spots to visit during this period in Tokyo?
The well-known cherry blossom viewing in spring and maple leaf viewing in autumn, the best season for appreciating plum blossoms is at the end of winter and the beginning of spring. In Tokyo, February is the best time to appreciate plum blossoms, and "Yushima Tenmangu Shrine" near Ueno is a good choice! There are 300 "Shirokaga" white plum trees here, which have been a famous plum blossom viewing spot since the Edo period and are loved by everyone. The shrine enshrines the god of learning, "Sugawara no Michizane", and is a sacred place for students to pray for success in their exams. Because it is close to the University of Tokyo, it is said that if you want to enter the University of Tokyo, you must first come here to pay your respects. "Yushima Tenmangu Shrine" is located on a small hill on the Honjo Plateau. To get to the shrine, you must climb the steep stairs of the Otoko-zaka, Onna-zaka, or Meoto-zaka. Although the 38-step Otoko-zaka is steep, it can directly reach the Haru-no-niwa garden, while the Onna-zaka is gentler but requires a detour.
The "Bunkyo Plum Blossom Festival" in 2023 will be held from February 8th to March 8th, with opening hours from 8:00 to 19:30. There will also be a night lighting event. This information is provided for your reference, and you can visit to enjoy the plum blossoms during your trip to Tokyo. You can also extend your itinerary to the Ueno area for food, shopping, and sightseeing. You can spend a whole day around here!
