The Yexian Pagoda is located on Yexian Mountain, 4 km northeast of Miyun County. Originally, there was a Puzhao Temple, and the temple pagoda was called Yexian Pagoda, also known as "Yexian Pagoda Lamp." It is one of the Eight Outer Scenic Spots of Miyun. The Yexian Pagoda was first built in the eighth year of Chongxi in the Liao Dynasty (1039). The pagoda is about 8m tall and has an octagonal plane. The tower body is divided into upper and lower levels, each with an arched doorway facing south, surrounded by brick-carved fake windows and floral decorations. The base, body, and top of the pagoda are all made of brick carvings imitating wooden structures. In the forty-third year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1778), the Yexian Pagoda was renovated. In the fifteenth year of Guangxu (1889), the top of the pagoda was struck by lightning and later rebuilt. Although the pagoda has been renovated many times, its structure has always maintained the architectural style of the Liao Dynasty. It is said that when the eminent monk Ji Xiaotang was cultivating in the pagoda, strings of red lights often shone from the top of the pagoda at night, so the Yexian Pagoda was called the "Yexian Pagoda Lamp." Chongxi (1032–1055, also known as Chonghe or Chongxi) was the reign title of Emperor Xingzong of Liao (Yelü Zongzhen), lasting nearly 24 years. The year 1039 also coincided with the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty. Shi Jingtang, the emperor of the Later Jin Dynasty, ceded the Sixteen Prefectures of Youyun in the north to the Khitan. Puzhao Temple was under the jurisdiction of Tanzhou, one of the Sixteen Prefectures of Youyun, which is today's Miyun District. Buddhism in the Liao Dynasty flourished, especially with the support of the royal family. Almost all temples in the north today are relics of the Liao Dynasty. In the twenty-ninth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1550), Altan Khan, the leader of the Tumd Mongols, led his troops to attack Beijing from Gubeikou. Altan Khan's troops freely looted and harassed the outskirts of the capital for eight days. It was during this period that Puzhao Temple was also burned down, an event historically known as the "Gengxu Incident." After being rebuilt, it was renamed "Puji Temple." (The first time it was destroyed by the Mongols.) In the forty-third year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1778), the Yexian Pagoda was renovated, and the couplets of the main hall of the South Sea Guanyin were built. In the fifteenth year of Guangxu (1889), the top of the pagoda was struck by lightning and later rebuilt (the second natural disaster). Although the pagoda has been renovated many times, its structure has always maintained the architectural style of the Liao Dynasty. This precious Liao pagoda was destroyed in 1967 in the name of "Destroying the Four Olds." In the autumn of 1988, the Beijing Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and the Miyun County Cultural Relics Management Institute began excavating the pagoda base. The excavation revealed that nothing remained above ground, and the underground palace was also scarred. More than 40 relatively complete ceramic artifacts were unearthed from the underground palace. The Puji Temple and Yexian Pagoda seen today were rebuilt in May 2009. Now, this is the Yexian Pagoda Tourist Scenic Area, mainly composed of the Yexian Pagoda, Puzhao Temple, and an amusement park.

Folks, it's so convenient to travel from Tongzhou to Yexian Tower in Miyun! I departed from Tongzhou West Station, took train K7771, the ticket was only CNY 12.5, and it took about 1 hour to get to Miyun North Station. After arriving at the station, it took about 10 minutes and about CNY 12 by online car-hailing to get to the scenic area. Of course, there may be "black cars" at the exit asking for CNY 20, just ignore them, it's more affordable to walk to the intersection outside and call a Didi. At the ticket hall of the scenic area, you can buy tickets on-site or buy a package online. I highly recommend the package, which includes tickets, a cable car, and a mountain slide, which is affordable and easy, suitable for those with kids or those who don't want to climb the mountain. Take the cable car up the mountain and slide down the mountain, you can enjoy the scenery without getting tired. I went to play the mountain slide on Sunday, there were not many people, no need to queue, the experience was great! Before departure, the staff will patiently explain and provide protective equipment, the operation is simple, just pay attention to safety, don't play with your phone or take pictures halfway. I took train S604 on the way back, the ticket was CNY 8, it had air conditioning and was fast, much better than train 6420 at 15:29. This was my first time going to the suburbs of Beijing from Tongzhou West Station, Yexian Tower Scenic Area was really nice, the package was less than CNY 90, including tickets, cable car, and slide, it was so much fun, the cost performance was super high, the whole trip was easy and pleasant!

There is an ancient tower from the Liao Dynasty on the hill, but visitors come here not to see the tower, but to experience mountain carting. Although the scenic area promotes that this ancient tower was built in the Liao Dynasty and has a history of nearly 1,000 years, from many modern decoration details, it can be seen that it was rebuilt in recent years. However, this does not affect its status as a landmark of the scenic area. Giant Map of China—Plant Engraving on the Slope Another major highlight of Yexian Tower Scenic Area is the giant map of China on the slope. This map of China is surrounded by a Great Wall-style walkway, with lush vegetation in the middle. Except for being miniature, the details are not lacking at all, which is truly ingenious. Ye Xian Tower Scenic Area is located on Ye Mountain, 4 kilometers northeast of Miyun County, Beijing. There was originally a Puji Temple, and the temple tower is called Ye Xian Tower, also known as "Ye Tower Fairy Lamp". Samantabhadra, Ksitigarbha and Manjusri Bodhisattva are on the side, and there are many small golden Buddhas around, hence the name of the Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas. Back Mountain Continue along the road on the top of the mountain, you can see the mountain slide car. When you get to the mountain slide car, don't rush to play, you can go to the back mountain first. The road in the back mountain has been repaired into the style of a Chinese map. The mountain is not high and it's fun and not tiring to walk around. There were few people in the back mountain when I went on a weekday, and it was leisurely and comfortable. 5. Mountain slide car Be sure to follow the instructions of the staff, wear the equipment properly, and play the slide car according to the driving rules. This project is relatively dangerous, do not use your phone to take pictures or videos during the descent. If you don't drive properly, your loved ones will shed tears! If you want to play again at the bottom of the mountain, the staff will drive you up the mountain, and you can pay again to experience the speed and passion.
