Jiangxi hides a small and niche thousand-year-old ancient town, which not only has the charm of Jiangnan, but also allows free entry.
Jiangxi is a place full of poetic and picturesque scenery. The local tourism resources are very rich, including the famous Lushan Mountain with its unique and beautiful scenery, Wugong Mountain, a holy land for hiking with stunning views of the sea of clouds, Sanqing Mountain, like a Chinese ink painting, and Huangling, the most beautiful village in China. Many scenic spots are worth visiting, and there are also some overlooked niche travel destinations with their own unique charm. Today, let's take a look at a lesser-known thousand-year-old ancient town in Jiangxi, which retains the original Jiangnan style and is free of charge. It is worth a visit.
This ancient town is Yao Li Ancient Town, located in the eastern part of Fuliang County, Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, at the junction of Qimen, Xiuning, Wuyuan, and Fuliang counties. It is 50 kilometers away from the downtown area of Jingdezhen and Fuliang County. It occupies a very advantageous geographical location and has a history of more than two thousand years. It has been a prosperous commercial port since ancient times. Nowadays, the ancient town is rich in Gan-style architecture and tourism resources, and is known as the "origin of porcelain, hometown of tea, and sea of forests".
Yao Li Ancient Town is named after Jingdezhen porcelain kilns and is one of the origins of ceramic handicrafts. It has a history and culture of more than two thousand years. Nowadays, there are many ancient buildings left behind. Walking on the old streets of the ancient town, you can see the traces left by the years. Stepping on the stone road, it feels like traveling back in time. Wearing ancient costumes to take photos is very picturesque. Not only that, it is also a red relic. Comrade Chen Yi lived here and guided the reorganization work of the New Fourth Army, known as the "Yao Li Reorganization". Now an exhibition hall has been established, which is a red education base for accepting the enlightenment of revolutionary ideology and carrying out revolutionary traditional learning.
Yao Li ancient town is full of exotic Jiangnan style, and the scenery here is intoxicating. We can enjoy steep mountains, green streams, and simple villages. During the day, it is like a landscape in a Chinese ink painting, and at night, the lights are brilliant, with the charm of an ancient town. It is super beautiful for taking photos. The Yao River runs through the town, with clear water and no pollution, slowly flowing down. Surrounding it are ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties and distant mountains, forming a beautiful Jiangnan ink painting, which is very shocking and seems like a fairyland on earth.
In the ancient town, there are various delicious foods and authentic Jiangxi specialties. Whether you taste them locally or give them as gifts, they are all unforgettable. In addition, there is no admission fee to visit Yao Li ancient town, and you can enter and play for free. It is a national four-star scenic spot with complete humanistic landscape, natural scenery, and revolutionary sites, and has high historical and cultural value. In Jiangxi, Yao Li ancient town is a niche travel destination, but its beauty and charm are shocking. The scenery, ancient architecture, and food here are all worth exploring and tasting. It is a great place to check in.

Jingdezhen Travel Guide
Jingdezhen Travel Guide|||Jingdezhen is a famous porcelain city that attracts countless tourists from home and abroad. I will introduce how to travel in Jingdezhen from the aspects of attractions, food, transportation, accommodation, etc.
1. The main attractions in Jingdezhen include Taobo City, Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Museum, Imperial Kiln Factory, Taoxichuan, Yaoli Ancient Town, Sculpture Porcelain Factory, Royal Kiln, Sanbao Village, etc.
Day 1: Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Museum in the morning, Imperial Kiln Factory in the afternoon (both places are about ancient porcelain-making relics and historical culture in Jingdezhen), Taoxichuan in the evening (a gathering place for ceramic cultural and creative crafts and a popular check-in place).
Day 2: Yaoli Ancient Town during the day (Yaoli Ancient Town is more than 40 km away from the city center, and the scenic area is large and takes a long time to visit, so considering the round-trip distance, play time, and rest time, you can spend the day in Yaoli Ancient Town), Sculpture Porcelain Factory in the evening (a huge market for small ceramic souvenirs with a wide variety of products and different prices, you can compare prices to improve cost performance).
Day 3: Sanbao Village in the morning (a place for tourists to experience making ceramics, with beautiful scenery), Royal Kiln in the afternoon (a place for making ceramics for the royal family in ancient times, high-end and elegant).
Day 4: Finally, you can go to Taobo City in the west of the city (a place for ceramic trade and exchange of Chinese and foreign ceramic crafts in Jingdezhen, with exhibitions and exchange meetings from time to time).
2. Jingdezhen's delicacies include beef bone noodles (beef bone noodles can be seen everywhere, a bowl of beef bone with a bowl of noodles, spicy and delicious), cold noodles (chewy and smooth), fried dough sticks and glutinous rice cakes (a combination of carbohydrates and glutinous rice cakes, soft and sweet).
3. Most of the above attractions in Jingdezhen are scattered throughout the city, which is inconvenient to travel. However, you can rent an electric bike for CNY 30 per day, which can travel dozens of kilometers a day. Compared with taking a taxi for CNY 10–20, renting an electric bike is affordable and convenient. You can also charge it at the store at night and borrow it again the next day if needed.
4. You can stay in the city center of Jingdezhen, so that the distance to each attraction is relatively moderate. Some hotels and homestays also offer ceramic-making experience activities, which are very good.

Don't get lost in Yaoli! Comprehensive navigation-style travel guide
🙈Why go to Yaoli⁉️
🎵"The sky blue waits for the rain, and I am waiting for you." It is said that the place described in Jay Chou's lyrics of "Blue and White Porcelain" is Yaoli Ancient Town in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province.
🍃This is the cradle of Jingdezhen ceramics, where ancient kilns have been burning for thousands of years, and every brick and tile tells the story of history.
.
🚗How to get there⁉️
There are two ways to get to Yaoli from Jingdezhen city.
◽️Self-driving or chartering a car, route suggestion: City Center—Bingding Kiln—Porcelain Palace—Yaoli Ancient Town—Hanxi Village (better sunset view)—City Center
◽️Taking the bus: First take a 🚌 from Jingdezhen city to Fuliang Bus Station, then take another 🚌 from the bus station to Yaoli.
.
🏨Where to stay⁉️
🏡In the ancient town: Staying in the ancient town allows for a deeper experience of the town's nightlife, but be aware that it may be slightly damp when it rains.
🏡At the entrance of the ancient town: Staying near the entrance of the ancient town requires a short walk, but the environment is quieter, and there are more breakfast options nearby.
.
🪂What to do⁉️
1️⃣Ming and Qing Commercial Street: Once the most prosperous commercial street on the ancient Huizhou Avenue, it is well-preserved, and the Ming dynasty shops on the street are unique.
2️⃣Shigang Victory View: A Gothic-style building with a blend of Chinese and Western elements, over 100 years old, with more than 100 wood carvings depicting scenes from ancient classics and operas.
3️⃣Cheng Family Ancestral Hall: Located by the Yaoli River under Lion Mountain, it was built in the Ming dynasty and features exquisite brick, stone, and wood carvings.
4️⃣Chen Yi's Former Residence: The place where Comrade Chen Yi worked and lived, feeling the footsteps of revolutionary predecessors.
5️⃣Fuyuan Bridge: An ancient bridge from the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was a must-pass bridge from Huizhou to Raozhou.
.
📷How to take photos⁉️
1️⃣Wooden Bridge: An excellent photo spot, Yaoli actually has two wooden bridges. The first one is more crowded, but if you walk further, there is another one with fewer people, and the bridge under the shade of ancient trees has a unique ancient town charm.
2️⃣Ancient Alley: The light in the ancient alley at dusk is particularly soft, making it the best time to capture the life of the ancient town.
3️⃣Yaoli River: Every corner by the Yaoli River is a good place for taking photos, whether it is in front of the inn by the wooden bridge or the Longlin Dam, you can take beautiful pictures.

The sky blue waits for the misty rain, and I wait for you in Yaoli
With green bricks and black tiles, the misty rain of Jiangnan, it can be said that Yaoli is the origin of porcelain, the place where kilns were fired in ancient times. It is said that the sky blue color on porcelain can only be achieved under the temperature and humidity of misty rain days, hence its fame.
Later, the name of this place gradually changed from 'Kiln' to 'Yaoli'. Yaoli Scenic Area is a national key scenic spot, a national historical and cultural town, a national mining park, a national key cultural relic protection unit, and a national natural and cultural dual heritage. Yaoli Ancient Town is a typical Gan-style architecture. It is also one of the top ten most beautiful ancient towns selected by National Geographic. There are no heavy commercial traces, so it is still worth a visit.
We took a taxi from the city center, which took about an hour. Along the way, we passed attractions such as the Porcelain Palace and Hanxi Village. There are also buses from the bus station, which are relatively more troublesome.
Yaoli has many restaurants run by local natives. We randomly chose one, and the taste was quite good.

Yaoli Ancient Town|Waiting for the Rain in Sky Blue
There is no strong commercial atmosphere here. To enter the ancient town, you must first pass through a long stretch of local residences. In the ancient town, you can see locals basking in the sun, chatting about daily life, buying vegetables, cooking, and doing laundry, all living their lives earnestly.
The number of tourists is not large. When I visited, there were more locals than tourists. Taking photos here is easy and beautiful without having to avoid crowds.
Yaoli Ancient Town Transportation Guide
Departure: Start from Jingdezhen, first take a bus to Fuliang County Bus Station (about half an hour), then take a coach from there to Yaoli Ancient Town (6 yuan, about 1 hour in total).
Return: The same as the arrival, you need to take a coach back to Fuliang County, and then take a bus from Fuliang County back to Jingdezhen. The last coach departs at 17:00, so be sure not to miss it.
If you want more convenience, you can choose to drive yourself or hire a car.
Yaoli Ancient Town Travel Guide
Yaoli Ancient Town does not require a ticket, but if you want to visit the attractions within the ancient town, you need to buy a ticket.
The entrance to Yaoli Ancient Town is not very conspicuous. You can enter from Fang Street or Shui Street, passing through the local residential area to reach the riverside.
There are many popular photo spots in the ancient town. The first is Yaoli's wooden bridge, where everyone gathers to take photos. In fact, if you walk further in, you will find another identical wooden bridge where almost no one takes photos.
Yaoli Ancient Town has a very popular photo spot: Fish Scale Pool. However, many people can't find it. You need to walk along the riverside to see it.

Jingdezhen | The 'sky blue waiting for the rain' describes this place
| The 'sky blue waiting for the rain' describes this place. I don't know why every time I come to Jingdezhen, Jay Chou's 'Blue and White Porcelain' unconsciously echoes in my ears. Fang Wenshan's 'sky blue waiting for the rain, and I am waiting for you' should be written about this place—Yaoli Ancient Town, this underestimated Jiangnan town. 'Yaoli waiting for the rain, Fuliang going to buy tea.' Yaoli Ancient Town does not have bustling crowds; here, there are emerald green rivers and the life of a Jiangnan town.
I arrived in Yaoli on the first two days of the National Day holiday. I was originally worried that there would be many people, but it turned out that the entire scenic area was just our family. As night fell, mist had already enveloped the river, and a small boat slowly approached, as if traveling back in time. It was so beautiful and dreamy. There were almost no tourists by the river, only a few local grandpas and grandmas chatting and cooling off, full of life. When the day broke, the town was shrouded in mist, so beautiful that it left people speechless. I especially like sitting by the small river or on the bench bridge, watching the dappled shadows of the leaves, the babbling water underfoot, and feeling an immense sense of peace.

One-day tour around Jingdezhen
One-day tour around Jingdezhen
Porcelain Palace - Hanxi Village - Yaoli Ancient Town - Dongbu Wharf
Online carpool one-day tour
First stop - Porcelain Palace 🎫25 yuan
There are many tourists, a total of three houses, very large. On-site, you will be amazed by the porcelain pieces on every brick and tile, and by the 80-year-old grandma's love for porcelain.
Second stop - Hanxi Village
A few years ago, it was the Earth Art Festival that made me want to come to Jingdezhen. Finally, I saw the Earth Lamp in a sea of tea. After a distant view, I walked around the village and learned that Hanxi Village is a village relocated from Qiandao Lake.
Third stop - Yaoli Ancient Town
It was already noon when we arrived at the ancient town. A little girl in the same car found a restaurant (Yaoheshanli Cuisine) which was very delicious! Due to the heavy rain the day before, several internet-famous bridges in the ancient town were washed away, and the river water was a bit muddy because of the rain.
Fourth stop - Dongbu Wharf
It is said that the Maritime Silk Road started from here. The village is much quieter compared to Yaoli.

Encounter the filming location of the movie "Sparkling Red Star"—Jingde Yaoli Ancient Town
Yaoli, the place where our ancestors fought guerrilla warfare. Later, it became the filming location for "Sparkling Red Star", a typical ancient village in Jiangnan. It may not be as famous as Zhouzhuang, Wuzhen, or Hongcun... but that doesn't mean the scenery here isn't beautiful. On the contrary, it's really suitable for traveling. A mountain and a river, always so gentle.
Located in the eastern part of Fuliang, Jiangxi, it has a history of more than two thousand years. The mountains are not high but are steep and beautiful, the water is not deep but is full of rapids. The ancient town and old village are nestled by the mountains and rivers, with the passage of time still visible on the houses, and the historical footprints faintly visible on the stone roads.
There are no strong traces of commercialization. To enter the ancient town, you have to pass through long local residences. Inside the ancient town, you can see locals basking in the sun, chatting, even buying vegetables, cooking, and washing clothes, living their lives earnestly.
There aren't many tourists either. When I went, there were more locals than tourists overall, so you don't have to avoid crowds when taking photos, and every shot looks good.
🚘Transportation Guide
✅Departure: From Jingdezhen, first take a bus to Fuliang County Bus Station (about half an hour), then take a coach to Yaoli Ancient Town (6 yuan, about 1 hour in total)
✅Return: Same as above, you need to take a coach back to Fuliang County, and then take a bus back to Jingdezhen. The last coach is at 17:00, don't miss the time
✅For more convenience, you can choose to drive yourself or hire a car
📝How to Play in Yaoli Ancient Town
✅Yaoli Ancient Town does not require a ticket, but if you want to visit the attractions within the ancient town, you need a ticket
✅The entrance to Yaoli Ancient Town is not very obvious. Enter from Fang Street or Shui Street, and then pass through the local residential area to reach the riverside
✅There are many popular photo spots in the ancient town. The first one is Yaoli's wooden bridge, where everyone gathers to take pictures. Actually, you can walk further inside and find another identical one with almost no one taking pictures
✅Yaoli Ancient Town has a very popular photo spot: Fish Scale Pool. But many people can't find it. You have to keep walking along the riverside to see it
If you come to Jiangxi, be sure to leave half a day for Yaoli Ancient Town
I hope Yaoli Ancient Town can always maintain its charm

National Geographic didn't lie to me! Regret coming to Jingdezhen late|||Regret coming to Jingdezhen late
|||Regret coming to Jingdezhen late. National Geographic didn't deceive me! The trip to Jingdezhen, a belated surprise, makes me regret not coming earlier 😢
Stepping into the heart of this thousand-year-old porcelain capital—Yaoli Ancient Town in Jingdezhen, I felt as if I had traveled through time, deeply moved by its unique charm. In one day, the weather was kind; first, an unexpected heavy rain washed away the dust of the world, then the rain cleared, transforming the ancient town into a paradise on earth. Light mist lingered in the mountains, peaks appeared and disappeared, and walking on the wet stone roads, every step felt like entering the realm of classical poetry and painting.
The melody of 'Blue and White Porcelain' flowed through my headphones, 'The sky blue waits for the rain, and I am waiting for you,' matching my mood at the moment. I believe that when you stand here, you will also fall in love with this unexpected beauty, immersed in this tranquility and harmony.
Yaoli Ancient Town, a free and open paradise, is only a half-hour drive from Jingdezhen city center. Whether by charter or self-driving, it is easily accessible. Here, you can slow down and spend a whole day feeling the peace and beauty away from the hustle and bustle.
The ancient town is nestled among mountains and rivers, with hundreds of Ming and Qing dynasty Hui-style buildings scattered in an orderly manner. They have witnessed the passage of time but still retain their ancient charm and folk customs. Find a farmhouse restaurant by the river, taste authentic home-cooked dishes, and watch children play in the clear Yaoli River. That innocence and joy seem to instantly heal all troubles.
Sitting on an old wooden bridge, watching the flowing water in front of me, I couldn't help but feel a surge of inexplicable emotion. Here, there is no commercial noise, no urban restlessness, only the purest natural and cultural beauty. If you have the chance to come to Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, be sure not to miss this hidden treasure ancient town, making it one of the most unforgettable memories of your trip.

Yaoli Ancient Town has not been overly commercialized, and the prices for food and accommodation are affordable, making it a highly cost-effective travel choice.

Never would I have imagined Jingdezhen to be like this
Jingdezhen, originally just a 'thousand-year porcelain capital' on the geography textbook, a cold name of a place.
A self-driving tour of three days and two nights gave me a new understanding of Jingdezhen this spring.
Transportation: Car**
**Hangzhou—Jingdezhen:** 4 and a half hours
**Day 1:** Depart from Hangzhou to De Town in the morning; visit Sanbao Village in the afternoon; enjoy the night view at Xichuan in the evening, and do some shopping. Stay near Taoxichuan.
**Day 2:** Since the museum is closed on Monday, visit Yaoli Ancient Town; on the way back, visit Dongbu Wharf and Hanxi Village; go shopping at Taoyang Road night market in the evening. Stay near Taoxichuan.
**Day 3:** Visit Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum in the morning; go shopping at the sculpture porcelain factory in the afternoon; return in the evening.
Jingdezhen has a beautiful natural environment, with clear mountains and rivers, and rivers crisscrossing. Kiln sites that can be seen everywhere tell the thousand-year history of the porcelain capital. The tourist attractions transformed from old factories are very popular with young people, and beautifully dressed young ladies can be seen everywhere, making the city full of vitality. A dazzling array of handicrafts, no one can leave the night market empty-handed. Various delicacies: beef bone powder, fried dough sticks with sesame wcześ, home-cooked meals, Fuzhou snack street...
Having just finished this trip, I am already thinking about the next one. Jingdezhen—I will definitely come back.

Yao Li ancient town is nestled against the mountains and surrounded by water, which makes for good Feng Shui
It's just over an hour and twenty minutes by taxi from Jingdezhen, and the journey offers pleasant traffic and scenery
The Feng Shui of Yao Li ancient town is quite good; the town is divided into two by a stream, creating a dynamic and thriving atmosphere!
It's like the women from Jiangsu and Anhui - petite, lively, gentle, and virtuous... Yao Li, a thousand-year-old ancient town

Yaoli Ancient Town: Experience the poetic journey of Fang Wenshan's 'The Azure Sky Awaits the Misty Rain', and fully enjoy the charm of the ancient town
📍Yaoli Ancient Town, Jingdezhen
⛩️An hour's drive from Jingdezhen city center, there is an ancient town called 'Yaoli'. It is the place that inspired Fang Wenshan to burst into inspiration and write the lyrics 'The Azure Sky Awaits the Misty Rain', and it is also the birthplace of Jingdezhen ceramics.
Walking into the ancient town is like stepping into a painting. Following the river upstream, the scenery continuously surprises you, climaxing at the Longlin Dam.
Even though it's spring, there are still visitors walking towards the middle of the river along the dam, letting the river water wet their shoes, so carefree and happy.
A not-so-long river with five or six bridges of different styles built over it, including traditional bench bridges, covered bridges, and stone slab bridges, is very suitable for a leisurely stroll.
The ancient town is fully equipped with accommodations, gourmet food, cafes, handicraft shops, and everything you need. If you like, you can stay for a few days to slowly take in the atmosphere.
❗️Do not buy tickets
The main scenery of Yaoli is on both sides of the river, and there is no need for tickets here. Only a few specific buildings require tickets, and if you don't visit them, there's no need to buy one, especially since it costs 90 yuan 😂😂
📌Touring time: 3-4 hours. If you have plenty of time in Jingdezhen, it is recommended to come here for a walk and breathe some fresh air

Hello Jiangxi | Seeking in Jingdezhen.
Seeking in Jingdezhen. Hello Jiangxi | The plain embryo outlines the blue and white, seeking in Jingdezhen.
"The sky blue waits for the rain, and I am waiting for you."
The sky blue on the porcelain can only be achieved when fired in rainy weather.
That touch of ethereal and pure color cannot present itself.
It must patiently wait for a rain that may come at any time.
Only then can it appear in the clear sky after the clouds disperse.

"Half of the history of ceramics is in Jingdezhen."
But Jingdezhen is not actually a town.

Or conversing with "porcelain workers" at the Taoxichuan market about ancient porcelain-making techniques.
The pottery born here collectively constructs the world-renowned Chinese cultural symbol—china.

Located on the site of the Imperial Kiln Factory, the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum
The variously sized linear brick arch structures seem to grow out of the ground.
The architectural lines intertwine with light and shadow, creating a blend of reality and illusion.
The ruins of the old kiln, with its broken walls, are an undying memory passed down through generations.
Here, the art of earth and fire collides, combining local elements with Eastern architectural aesthetics, igniting new vitality in the museum's collection.

Porcelain City Travel - The sky is blue, waiting for the misty rain, and I am waiting for you
I finally arrived at the other side of the Anywhere Door, the ancient town of Yaoli!
The phrase 'The sky is blue, waiting for the misty rain, and I am waiting for you' sketches out many people's longing for the ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, and Yaoli is the perfect response to this sentiment. To fulfill this feeling, we set off on a rainy day to the Yaoli of our dreams.
Yaoli Ancient Town is not large, built along the river, with the pitter-patter of light rain falling into the river, as if telling tales of a thousand years. The sky is blue, and the Hui-style architecture with its blue bricks and black tiles is the perfect epitome of Porcelain City.
Walking on the stone-paved road, with its uneven stones, feels more textured and solid than modern cement asphalt roads.
On a rainy day, go for a cup of coffee to warm your hands and heart, and gaze at the dazzling array of porcelain. It's so romantic, come and check in!
Tips
There are many homestays in the ancient town, and it is recommended to book one by the river. You can park your car in the parking lot across the river from the homestay's entrance, instead of at the main entrance of the scenic area, to avoid congestion and save time.

Yao Li Ancient Town
This time coming to Yao Li, the sky was clear all the way, and upon arrival, it was shrouded in a misty rain~
I truly experienced the atmosphere described by Fang Wenshan in 'the sky is blue, waiting for the misty rain'!
The drizzle stopped and started intermittently,
The wide and tranquil Yao River flowed slowly,
The river water was so clear that the bottom could be seen, the leaves were a lush green about to spill over,
The bluestone paths, the mottled old houses, the broken wooden doors are all footprints of time👣
The reflections on both sides of the river were like paintings, slowly spreading with the water,
As if washing away the mottled history of the ancient town for a thousand years,
The beauty of the south of the Yangtze River is all kneaded into this ancient town.
The ancient trees are intricately intertwined and reflected in the clear river,
Not far away on the water surface, an old man was paddling a bamboo raft,
At this moment,
Time seems to slow down so much..
Escaping the mundane,
I just want to be a carefree person here for a day~

This secluded ancient town, free of charge for a thousand years, is no less charming than Wuyuan and Wuzhen
"Waiting for the misty rain in Yaoli, going to buy tea in Fuliang." It is only after coming here that one truly understands the meaning of Fang Wenshan's line "The sky blue waits for the misty rain".
With its green bricks and black tiles, and the misty rain of the south of the Yangtze River, Yaoli can be said to be the origin of porcelain, the place where kilns were fired in ancient times. It is said that the sky blue color on the porcelain can only be achieved by firing under the temperature and humidity of a misty rainy day, hence its fame. Later, the place gradually changed from "Yao Li" to "Yaoli" and has been selected by 'National Geographic' as one of the ten most beautiful ancient towns.
