Exhaustive Guide! Wangmangling Nanny-Level Travel Guide
I recently visited Wangmangling and was truly amazed by its magnificent beauty. I can’t wait to share this travel guide with you all, hoping it helps you have an amazing travel experience!
1. Preparation Before the Trip
1. Documents: ID card, student ID (for discounts), and other valid documents.
2. Clothing: Check the weather in advance. In spring and autumn, bring a long-sleeve jacket as there is a big temperature difference between morning and evening; in summer, prepare sun protection and wear light clothing; in winter, wear thick down jackets and thermal pants as it’s windy and cold at the mountain top.
3. Items: Comfortable sports shoes or hiking boots for easy walking; a backpack to carry water, snacks, power bank, etc.; a sun and rain umbrella to cope with changing weather; if you like photography, don’t forget your camera.
2. Transportation Guide
1. Self-driving: Navigate to “Wangmangling Scenic Area.” From Taiyuan, take the Erguang Expressway—Gaoxin Expressway, exit at Xiyagou Toll Station, then drive about 500 meters to reach the destination. The scenery along the way is also great, and you can stop anytime to take photos.
2. Public Transport: First arrive at Jincheng East Station, then take bus route 205 from Jincheng East Bus Station directly to the scenic area. The fare is only 1 yuan, but the bus frequency is low, so check the departure times in advance.
3. Tickets and Opening Hours
1. Ticket Price: Full-price tickets are about 110 yuan, including admission to Wangmangling and Xiyagou and the shuttle bus fees within the scenic area. Discounts are available for students, seniors, etc., so remember to bring your ID.
2. Opening Hours: Usually from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but tickets for the day stop selling at 4:00 PM, so plan your time accordingly.
4. Travel Routes
1. One-day Tour: Start from Wolongchang Parking Lot, walk to Wolongchang Visitor Center, then take the shuttle bus to the Summit Viewing Area. Here you can see spectacular sea of clouds (if lucky), unique peaks like Elephant Trunk Peak that looks like an elephant’s nose, and the Cactus Rock that seems placed by immortals—great for photos. Then experience the thrilling Xiangyun Glass Walkway, with a sheer abyss beneath your feet, an exhilarating heart-pounding feeling. Next, take the shuttle bus to Xiyagou to admire the stunning Xiyagou Cliffside Road, a man-made road carved like a giant dragon winding along the cliff—truly magnificent.
2. Two-day Tour: On the first day, visit Xiyagou first, explore the Red Rock Grand Canyon, marvel at nature’s craftsmanship, with red rocks looking especially beautiful under the sun. You can also enjoy boating on the water, relaxing and pleasant. Stay overnight at a homestay in Xiyagou, try local farmhouse dishes, and experience the tranquility of the countryside. On the second day, take the shuttle bus early morning to the Sunrise Viewing Platform to watch the sunrise. When the sun slowly rises from the sea of clouds, the view is simply breathtaking! After sunrise, visit Qintai, Lingzhi Stone, and other attractions, enjoy a leisurely trip, and return in the afternoon.
5. Must-Visit Attractions
1. Xiyagou Cliffside Road: A must-check-in spot! The entire 7.5 km road was carved by the people of Xiyagou over thirty years using primitive tools. Whether driving or hiking, you can deeply feel the indomitable spirit of the pioneers who moved mountains.
2. Sunrise Viewing Platform: An excellent spot in the Taihang Mountains to watch the sunrise. It’s recommended to arrive between 4:00 and 5:00 AM to secure the best position and enjoy the sun slowly rising, dyeing the sea of clouds golden red—a true visual feast.
3. Red Rock Grand Canyon: The red canyon landscape rivals the Colorado Grand Canyon. In spring, the canyon is full of blooming wildflowers in various colors, beautifully dotting the red rocks.
6. Accommodation Recommendations
1. Yunding Jiuyuan: Located in the core area of the scenic spot, it is a high-end homestay with an enclosed courtyard design and 11 courtyards. It offers accommodation, dining, KTV entertainment, outdoor barbecue, and other services, with 34 rooms in total—great for families or friends staying together.
2. Huameishi Hotel: Located on the east side of the Taihang Xiyagou National Tourist Resort, it is a high-end comprehensive resort hotel with homestay style, integrating rooms, dining, leisure, and entertainment. It has 458 rooms, so no worries about booking availability.
7. Food Recommendations
1. Lingchuan Beef Meatballs: Selected beef mixed with corn starch, fried to be soft outside and crispy inside. One bite releases a full meaty aroma—super delicious.
2. Lingchuan Grilled Scallions: Tender scallions cleverly combined with beef and eggs, rich in aroma and unique in taste—definitely a must-try.
3. Corn Wowo Bread: A local specialty staple food, with the sweet fragrance of corn, healthy and tasty.
8. Travel Tips
1. Clothing: Be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes for easy hiking. For photos, wear bright-colored clothes to match the natural scenery better.
2. Photography: Use a telephoto lens to capture the sea of clouds for a vast and ethereal effect; sunrise is great for silhouette shots; use a wide-angle lens for the cliffside road to highlight its grandeur.
3. Others: There are many tourists during holidays, so book accommodation in advance; shuttle bus frequency in the scenic area is low, so self-driving is more convenient; prices on the mountain are slightly higher, so bring some snacks and water yourself.
