This is ‘Tonkatsu Yamabe’ inside the Ameyoko shopping arcade near Ueno Station. I think I ordered aji (horse mackerel) fried fish with the rosu katsu set, but I personally don’t like fried fish with fish bones, so the aji fried fish wasn’t that great. The rosu katsu set was 770 yen, but when I searched, it seems that the price has gone up a bit recently. There are only counter seats, and you can see them frying tonkatsu right behind the counter. The meat is thick, and the fried fish is freshly fried, so it’s warm and has a good oily taste. It wasn’t that great, but I think it’s good for the price. There were quite a few other restaurants in the Ameyoko shopping arcade where you had to wait in line to eat. Even though it is autumn, and the weather was quite cooling, I couldn’t resist to get a crepe with ice cream and strawberry. The crepe was soft and smooth, and matched so well with the ice cream. If you happen to be in Ameyoko Shopping Street, it is a must to try this Takoyaki (Octopus Balls). It was really cheap and delicious. 400 yen (S$4) for 8 pieces! Inside each has a big chunk of diced octopus. The service was quick despite the crowd. Once you place the order, you can get yours within minutes. It’s self-service for the takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise sauce and Bonito flakes toppings. The batter was so soft, be careful while eating, it’s piping hot. This Takoyaki stall is joined with the famous Sashimi Don with limited seating. You may need to stand and eat.
