I stayed at Kairakuen, a traditional Japanese restaurant located on the coast of Toba, Mie Prefecture. All rooms have an ocean view, and the view of the ocean spreads out below the window. (The photo shows the full moon from the room.) Kairakuen has a large public bath, but you can also see a beautiful full moon from the private open-air bath. The night view over the sea is also very beautiful and mesmerizing. Just listening to the sound of the waves while watching the night view and losing track of time is soothing. Toba also has delicious seafood! On the second day of my Kii Peninsula tour, I chose Toshi Island, the largest island in Toba Bay, Mie Prefecture. As a Beijinger born inland, I have always longed for the vast sea and dreamed of life on an island. So I chose Toshi Island for this trip. I remember that morning, my companion and I walked for about 7 minutes from Toba Station to TOBA Marine Terminal, and took the 9:30 ferry to Wagu Port on Toshi Island. After disembarking, I saw the clear sea. Not far from the port is a beach called Sunshine Beach. Although I couldn't swim in the sea in winter, I could stand there and listen to the sound of the waves, which was very soothing. After a short break, my companion and I began our journey to explore Toshi Island. We decided to spend a day fully experiencing the charm of this island. This time, I will share photos of the sea on Toshi Island. There were many fish tanks and we were able to enjoy fresh seafood while looking at the sea! #thingstodo As you walk down the slope from the Kairakuen parking lot, you can immediately see abundant water falling from a height of about 10 meters into the basin of the waterfall. It's spectacular. You can see the waterfall on the right and the center (above the bridge) on the left. It's a very nice waterfall. There is a stone pillar at the entrance to the parking lot, so large vehicles should be careful when entering and exiting.

Very nice aquarium with a lot of different (sub) tropical species living in and around the waters in that part of the world. They even had some artic inhabitants like walruses, penguins and sea lions. Mostly everything is located within the aquarium itself but there are some outside displays as well. It is a rather big aquarium, however with excellent indications and signs where everything was to be found. Also two large restaurants were available to the public. They also had an amazing souvenir shop. As could be expected a favourite place for families with smaller kids. #2024wish

Mie Prefecture, Japan is a coastal prefecture in the Kansai region. It is famous for its seafood and pearl cultivation. Toba City, Mie Prefecture, is so famous that this street is called “Oyster Street”. When talking about Mie’s famous winter food, oysters are the first thing to come to mind. We drove to Onoura Bay from Pearl Road Seaside, and we found Oyster Street. You will see signs saying “Oyster Buffet” hanging everywhere. To eat the oyster buffet, you should make a reservation in advance. If you walk in, you may not get a table or have to wait in line for a long time. Oysters are only available from November to March because oysters are only available in winter. Today, we made a reservation at a restaurant called “Yamayasu Fishery”, which sells fresh seafood. They caught them themselves from the sea. The shop opens from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The price of the oyster buffet is 3,000 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for children aged 5 and over. There is no time limit, meaning that we can sit and eat all day long!!! When you arrive, walk into the shop, tell them your name and reservation time, and pay. The staff will give you cloth gloves, plates, and knives, and take you to your table. Each table has a grill for you to grill yourself. The oysters are served in a net bag. If you finish eating them, you can get a new bag at the counter. There are no dipping sauces or drinks here. You have to prepare them yourself. However, if you didn't bring a drink, there is an automatic water dispenser. In addition to the shop's oysters, you can grill your own meat or vegetables.
