#travelgram Visiting Athens was an incredible experience! Walking through the ancient city felt like stepping into history. The highlight was, of course, the Acropolis. The entrance fee was €20, but it’s totally worth it for the views of the Parthenon and the whole city from the top! The climb is a bit steep, but the panoramic view of Athens is breathtaking. You can also visit the Acropolis Museum, which costs €10, and it’s full of fascinating artifacts from ancient Greece. Plaka, the old neighborhood just below the Acropolis, was another favorite spot. The narrow streets, charming tavernas, and lively vibe made it the perfect place for lunch. I had the best souvlaki there and loved wandering through the small shops. If you’re into history, don’t miss the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and for a bit of relaxation, head over to the National Gardens, right in the heart of the city. This temple was constructed in the Sixth century BC in order to honor the god Zeus. It was supposed to be the greatest temple in the ancient world. It was also considered the largest ancient temple with 104 tall columns. Nowdays you can only see fifteen of the original columns however it is still impressive and worth to visit and photograph. To get to this temple is pretty simple specially if you are near the Acropolis. Athens, also the capital of Greece and the heart of Ancient Greece is full of historical sites and histories. Visiting Greece was like stepping into the past times, where beautiful and stunning architectures and ruins of Greek culture soaring high on the hill. Some of the iconic landmarks in Athens would be Parthenon, Erechtheion, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Odeon of Herodes Atticus where the Romans watch the shows! Athens is such an interesting and fun destination to visit, with a harmonious and quirky blend of the ancient and modern cultures, architectures. It is certainly a must visit destination in Europe!

After finishing the Acropolis tour, we had a quick lunch and started exploring the ruins right away. Regardless of the photos and order.. (1) OLYMPIEION (2) ARISTOTLE'S LYKEION (3) HADRIAN'S LIBRARY (4) ROMAN AGORA (5) ANCIENT AGORA (6) TEMPLE OF HEPHAESTUS Walked over 30,000 steps and cleared them all! When visiting Athens the various sites located in the city centre vary in size and condition, periodically throughout the year maintenance is performed to ensure the building remaining structures are as stable as possible whilst remaining as authentic as possible. On my occassion visiting the temple of Zeus it was being maintained and I can ensure you that the temple still amazed and lived up to expectations! The site can be viewed in detail in under 30 minutes and is included in the Athens pass or entry can be bought at the entrance, when inside you’re able to walk around the ground and get a great view of Hadrian’s Arch alongside some unique interactions with turtles who walk around the area. Turtles can be found in most of the sites in Greece and for me being from the UK their presence was always a welcomed surprise. Overall I would definitely recommend adding the Temple of Zeus to your tour when visiting Athens and taking some pictures at the ancient site! #athens #greece #templeofolympianzeus

The Temple of Olympian Zeus is located along Leof. Vasilissis Olgas, and is around 300 meters 5 minutes walk from Acropoli metro station. It is open daily from 0800-1500. Also known as Olympieion, was built between 174 and 132 BC, it was dedicated to Zeus, the king of gods in Greek mythology. It was one of the largest temples ever built in the ancient world, measuring 96 meters long and 40 meters wide. It was 500 meters southeast of Acropolis, only 15 majestic columns which are one of the most important remains from ancient Greece. On the northeast corner of the monument is a remarkable 18 meters marble Hadrian's Arch.

View is amazing up there if you managed to head up the higher ground area. Entrance to the Temple of Olympian Zeus is free only for children up to 5 years old and EU citizens up to 25 years old. The rest of the visitors need to purchase a ticket. The tickets cost about €8 (eight euros). Do check the website again for the updated prices before going.
