Seaside simplicity in Tanjung Sepat: where the land breathes slow
#summervacay #visitmalaysia2026 #seaside
Tanjung Sepat isn’t polished, nor is it trying to be. And that’s exactly why it captivates. A fishing town tucked between Morib and Sepang, it whispers of old Malaysia — sun-bleached wooden jetties, timeworn seafood stalls, and the briny scent of seaweed and salt hanging in the morning air.
Arrive early and you’ll catch the fishermen unloading their haul at the jetty — silver glints of ikan selar in plastic tubs, the sound of ice sloshing into styrofoam boxes, roosters crowing somewhere in the distance. Walk past the local biscuit shops, maybe pick up a pack of handmade heong peah, and make your way toward the seaside.
It isn’t postcard pretty — no turquoise waters or polished boardwalks — but it’s deeply human. Couples rest on concrete benches, kids run barefoot chasing waves, and in the late afternoon, the sky performs its softest symphony in pink and gold.
Travel tip: Tanjung Sepat is best accessed by car from KL (1.5–2 hours). Come for the seaside strolls, but stay for the eats: don’t miss the handmade pau from Hai Yew Heng, and pair it with a quiet sunset moment by the sea.

Tanjung Sepat Wall Mural: Art by the Sea
#summervacay
Nestled near the Lover’s Bridge, Tanjung Sepat features a striking wall mural painted on an old wooden building. This black-and-white artwork—likely symbolizing local culture or fishing life—adds a creative touch to the village's rustic charm.
It’s an unexpected Instagram-worthy spot, blending vintage architecture with modern expression. Best viewed in the late afternoon, the mural complements a scenic stroll along the jetty, offering a unique mix of art, heritage, and coastal serenity.

Tanjung Sepat’s Pao Breakfast: A Must-Try Morning Treat
#summervacay
Tanjung Sepat is famous for its delicious handmade paus (steamed buns), perfect for a local-style breakfast. Two standout spots are:
Hai Yew Heng: A legendary 40-year-old shop known for its mui choy pau (preserved veggie) and sang yoke pau (pork with egg). Expect queues—come early!
Mr Black Handmade Pau: Offers creative variations like rice wine chicken, yam, and fried char siew pau, often praised for their rich fillings.
Pair your paus with kopi from nearby kopitiams and enjoy them street-side for the full experience. This charming coastal town also offers seafood, cendol, and a laid-back atmosphere—making breakfast here more than just a meal, but a delicious cultural experience.

☕ Coastal Café Hopping | Haikaa Canteen, Tanjung Sepat
#springitinerary
I finally made my way to Tanjung Sepat, a charming little fishing village tucked along the southern coast of Selangor. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and every corner tells a quiet story. And if you ever find yourself here, Haikaa Canteen is a must-visit gem you can't skip! 💙
The café is built inside a former wooden plank factory, and the moment I stepped in, I felt like I had walked into a living memory. The interiors are crafted from reclaimed wood and iron — rustic, nostalgic, and full of soul. Everywhere I looked, there were little treasures: gacha machines, stacks of old books, vintage photographs, and record albums — every detail felt like a love letter to the past 📻📚✨
And let’s talk about the coffee — it’s not just good, it’s meaningful. They use Yit Fatt (裕发) traditional coffee powder, a beloved local brand, but brew it with a youthful, modern twist. It’s the perfect fusion of old and new — and exactly what I needed after a morning exploring the seaside. ☕🌿
Of course, a good coffee only goes so far on an empty stomach — so yes, I definitely made room for food too 😋 Before heading back out to explore the rest of the town, I recharged with a cozy brunch here, surrounded by warm textures and coastal breezes.

As the sun began its slow descent, we arrived at Pantai Tanjung Sepat, a quiet and unspoiled beach in Selangor. Unlike bustling tourist beaches, this stretch of golden sand offers a peaceful retreat, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the village.
The beach was nearly empty, with only a few locals and couples taking in the calming sea breeze. The water was shallow and warm— not ideal for swimming, but great for wading and relaxation.

Tanjung Sepat 唱大戏: Where Traditions Come Alive 🎶🍢
Had an amazing time at the Tanjung Sepat 唱大戏 event this weekend 🎭✨! The whole town was buzzing with energy, and it felt like stepping back into a more traditional, lively Malaysia 🇲🇾❤️.
The highlight, of course, was the opera performance 🎶🎭. The stage was beautifully decorated, and the actors were dressed in colorful, intricate costumes 👘🎨. Even if you don’t fully understand the old dialects, you can still feel the emotions through their singing and acting — it’s truly an art that deserves more love and attention 🙌🏻.
Around the event area, there were so many stalls set up, selling all kinds of traditional snacks and street food 🍢🍡🍘. The smell of BBQ filled the air, and I couldn’t resist the famous chicken wings 🔥🍗 — crispy outside, juicy inside, absolutely delicious!
Other than that, there were handmade desserts, local kuih-muih, and nostalgic treats like muah chee (麻糍) and peanut pancakes 🥜🥞. Walking through the rows of stalls felt like reliving childhood memories. Every corner was packed with happy faces, laughter, and the sound of kids running around 🎈👦🏻👧🏻.
It wasn’t just about food and shows — it was about community spirit 🤝. Seeing locals and visitors gathering together, supporting small vendors, and enjoying simple pleasures was so heartwarming 💛.
As the night went on, the opera performance became even more magical under the starry sky ✨🌙. I left with a full stomach, a happy heart, and so many beautiful memories 📸.
Tanjung Sepat, you really know how to put on a good show! Can't wait for the next time 🚶♂️🎭🍢!

Small Town Gem At Tanjung Sepat
Tanjung Sepat is definitely a great weekend getaway from KL, the small town is just approximately 50 minutes drive from Sepang. Is great for family and friends coming here for a short stay during weekend. I like the slow and enjoy lifestyle from the Tanjung Sepat locals and enjoy great foods. I always like to enjoy the coffee at an old kopitiam with kaya toast, is a perfect match not only during breakfast but also during afternoon tea break. Not mentioned the famous handmade Pau is always my favourite. There is lots of good and nice home stay accommodation to choose from the locals with different themes. Besides, there is lots of locals Chinese temples to visit. Enjoy seafood in front of sea views with the wind breeze.
Tanjung Sepat is one of the great place for weekend getaway for gathering with my loving friend and family just for a peaceful in mind holiday.
